G15 Simple firetech

Simple G15 Composer based notification add-on for Linux

G15 Simple

Description

Simple G15 keyboard LCD display (and others supported by g15daemon) notification addon for Linux. A Windows version (not written by me) is available here. This is a port of my (almost) identical plugin for Amarok (http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/G15-Simple?content=77419).

Requires G15 Composer (which in turn requires G15 Daemon, see http://www.g15tools.com for more info), pkill and pgrep. Tested and working fine in Ubuntu 8.10 (amd64, but that shouldn't matter).

NOTE!
At the moment, this plugin is a bit stupid and assumes that your g15composer, pgrep and pkill binaries can be found in /usr/bin. A future version might add configuration options for this (I didn't have the time to learn xul completely for this one), but for now, if any of the aforementioned binaries isn't located in /usr/bin, you'll have to edit the paths in the script file ([songbird profile directory]/extensions/g15simple[at]firetech.nu/chrome/content/g15simple.js). All paths are located at the top of that file, for convenience.

Release Notes

Just a bump of version compatibility.

@aJJ:
That's because text for g15composer needs to be recoded to ISO-8859-1, and any characters that can't be recoded. As far as I know, g15composer (really g15daemon) doesn't have cyrillic character support, but I might be wrong. However, g15composer doesn't like UTF-8 data, so recoding with both latin and cyrillic characters will be a nightmare.

@Jerome:
That error suggests you're missing one of the binaries. You'll have to install the packages g15composer, g15daemon and procps (the last one should be installed by default) with a utility like Synaptic or apt-get.

*oops*
The first sentence in my comment above should end with "... and any characters that can't be recoded are replaced with '?'."

(proofreading ftw.)

Hi firetech.. I'm wondering if you can do a simple but great extension. I'm talking about do a notiefer for the new Ubuntu 9.10 Notification System... The only which the extension have to do is read artist info and album picture. The other is just send console code. There is some help lines...

Thanks!!

@sironitomas:
I might look into it, as soon as I've upgraded to Jaunty (if I don't do it tomorrow, then probably very soon after).

I'm quite busy with more important parts of life (school and work), so I can't promise anything...

@sironitomas (and others interested in the same thing:
I spent some time playing around with notify-osd today and managed to get a simple extension made. However, as soon as I was done, I found this. Its maxVersion needs to be updated for Songbird 1.1.2, but it works just fine.
