do NOT use AdBlock. It blocks the servers for the pong and screws up the metrics, thereby flagging the metrics as failed, and so component loading is flagged as failed. As a consequence, mp3s and flac do not play at all. I also deleted the SongbirdVLC folder but that in itself did not have any effect. Once I uninstalled AdBlock, then it all started working again.

The same thing happened to me on Songbird 0.5pre. I think this might be a different issue, as many addons are not supported in the version I have. Anyway, I love Adblock Plus and use it in Firefox. Keep up the good work, Wladimir!

Let me first state that your safest bet is to wait for Palant & company to update adblockplus' install.rdf file to make it compat with songbird 0.7...
But if you don't feel like waiting, and you know how to edit *xpi files, take the install.rdf and change songbird's maxVersion from 0.6.* to 0.7.*

Info on editing install.rdf can be found here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Install.rdf

Open up Tools --> Add-ons and drag over your modified adblock_plus-0.7.5.4.xpi to install it.

Excellent addon for any mozilla product. Makes the web even faster, gets rid of obnoxious webpage warping ads, and gets rid of even more security vulnerabilities for your computer. Greatly looking forward to it being compatible again (honestly wouldn't have updated songbird if I payed attention to the fact this addon wasn't compatible yet XD ).

This still works fine with 1.1.x, it's just that an internal file tells songbird otherwise.

Go here in Firefox - http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/5 - and download the extension manually (as .xpi). Since .xpi is just a zip file, you can open it using winzip or 7-zip.

Extract install.rdf and open it in notepad. Look for the Songbird entry and change the max version from 1.0.* to 1.1.* and save the file. Add install.rdf back to the zip file, overwriting the old one.

Then go to Tools > Addons > Install and select the newly modified .xpi.

Hi Wladimir, installing tihs extension on Songbird 1.2 (it works flawlessly in Firefox) results in a signing validation error:

Tried manually importing the certificates from StartCom (found on your dev blog) into songbird, but that didn't make the trick. It's happening on another PC too. Could this be some bug?

We're still in the slow news period, so let's talk about something we discussed before: blocking advertisements on websites. Up until, well, today, I didn't block ads - not because of some ethical objection or whatever, but simply because I couldn't be bothered to setup
Today, after taking a closer look at some of the websites I frequent, I decided to take the plunge and install Ad Block on all my machines. The following set of screenshots should pretty much explain why.
