Glossy Coat LIB53

a shinier songbird

Glossy Coat

Description

This is my first feather. I would greatly appreciate constructive comments and tips. I hope you like it. I'm also looking for ideas for a new feather.....

This is where i got the wallpaper from: http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/index.php?w=&h=&sort=date&id=&page=2
I know someone will ask. :P

Go and get Glossy Coat 2!

If you're really still desperate for some classic Glossy Coat, then you can can download rubberducky dependencies, edit the install.rdf file to accept a max version of 1.0.*. Then download Glossy Coat and do the same thing. The RDFs are inside the xpi's,which can be opened with any archive program supporting .ZIP. Then install rubberducky dependencies and Glossy Coat manually. Here's a screenshot of it working on Songbird 1.0.

One of the best feathers I have seen for songbird! One idea is to lighten up the diagonal stripes in the current song box(the box with the bird in the middle/top-center). Keep up the good work.

So damn nice!
One thing though, the progress window is really annoying with those stripes. I hope you don’t intend to keep it like that …
But this is a great first job :)

Love it.
the stripes don’t really annoy me, but wondering if it were possible to round-off the edges of the progress window at all?

Btw love the fields background from the screenshot, where’s it from?

Thank you, I’m glad you like it.

I will try to round the corners, but that throws off the stripes, which i might remove remove later due to what people are saying.

I got the background from interfacelift.com

The changes look great! I kind of like the stripes so don’t get rid of them. :)

Thanks for the comments. I really do appreciate it. Now how about rating this feather? Who knows, this could be one of the most popular. :P

may I suggest you remove left pane and make it one with the background?

over 3 years ago
LIB53
LIB53

I don’t know how… :(

over 3 years ago
Schwadegan
Schwadegan

Simply put the leftpane background as transparent and there you’ve got it!
I did it myself with this feather to try it out, and I thought it looked nice :)

But, its your call.

over 3 years ago
LIB53
LIB53

Where do I go to edit that. I really can’t find it.
An editing leftpane backgrounds for morons would definitely be nice :)

Btw, removing the left pane background gave me a sweet idea, so I’m very eager to know how to do this.

Schwadegan
Schwadegan

I could send you a copy of a transparent version if you want me to, but you’ll find leftpane editing in the colors.css , simply set the values desired for that pane t o transparent and remove (if any) code that includes leftpane pictures from the images.css code and it should be transparent.
As I said, I could with no problem put a link to a version without pane to help you if you want, just let me know and good luck!

Thanks a lot. It worked. I didn’t see much of a difference though, but i kept it anyway. I was also able to learn a bit more about the CSS and have began working on a couple new things to push it up to 2.0.

Something that’s bothering me though is that i added an image to the background of the focused row, yet when songbird starts up, I still see the gray highlight it starts out with. What I did to achieve this was I went to images.css and added:

.servicepane-tree > treechildren::-moz-tree-row( selected current focus )
{
background-image: url(‘chrome://songbird/skin/backgrounds/shadow.png’) !important;
s/** Selected Focus Row */
}

(Don’t know what !important is, but i doubt that matters right now)

over 3 years ago
Schwadegan
Schwadegan

if you put !important after a piece of code it might help as the !important value, as I’ve understood it, can force certain things to work in songbird.

I love this feather!.
but …. the Mini Media Player doesn’t seem to want to stay on top of all windows. I don’t know if this is new to 0.6 or not.
thanks for this!

Weird. It does do that to me too, and only on this feather. I’ll try to figure it out, but i don’t really even know where to start looking. :(

Hm, well now I realize that other Feathers do the same thing for me in Mini-mode… I suspect its something to do with Sb and not Glossy (?) ...
Strange that its not the same for you, LIB53

My only other feather is rubberducky. lol. Did you try that one?

over 3 years ago
smirky
smirky

Yes, that’s why I thought it was only Glossy at first, because it was my only other feather as well.
So I installed a bunch of others to test them for the problem, and all the feathers besides Rubberducky lose their ‘stay on top’ function. Rubberducky still works as expected tho…
This is only on my Windows version of Sb, haven’t tested it out with the Mac yet.

LIB53
LIB53

So it isn’t only my skin that does that. phew.
I really don’t have anymore work on this skin, or so i think. If anyone requests stuff, I won’t mind, but I’m thinking about making a windows media player 11 skin clone. I mainly made this one as a little bit of a test to see how songbird skinning works.

Probably the best theme for SB. If I can give you a suggestion, make the same in grey (like an other popular player). That will be easy to motivate some communities to join SB. Great job, really!

I tried to do it in white/grey, but i couldn't do it. I'm not that good yet. I just can't make grey seem shiny, or white. I just don't understand the colors. I've tried looking up some photoshop tutorials, but i got nothing. If you know something that would help, i would really appreciate it. Thanks for the comment. It made my day. :)

@ It is a rubberducky based theme. Among my list of "songbird skins to make" a Gonzo glossy coat port ranks pretty high. That could be a future solution to your problem.

Nice try but it messed up my playlist: I could not enter numerical values and the alignment of buttons in the various dialogs was not very pretty. Also, the 'sticky' feature (?), was this intended?

over 3 years ago
LIB53
LIB53

@ceyeber62
  Alot of those errors are from being a rubberducky based skin. I don't think i'll be able to fix them unless i switch this to gonzo. I really am planning on switching it gonzo, but i'm pretty busy with other stuff right now, so you'll just have to wait.

Just downloaded it and really really like the look. My favorite so far. Not sure yet how stable it is but based on looks really hopes it works out. Thanks for the hard work. Agree with the one reviewer - a similar firefox theme would be great too.

It worked at first
and I liked it
but I don't know what I did
because the Glossy Coat doesn't work anymore
it want back to the original skin
and I did NOT Disable it
can any one help me?

over 3 years ago

@kevin

check if you have the latest rubberducky dependencies installed. This an old school theme and requires that stuff. Any bugs can only do with that.

over 3 years ago

kevin

no that didn't work
ok but
I think I know what happened
so I was was trying different skins so I disabled Glossy Coat
I like Glossy Goat better so I uninstall the outer and enable Glossy Coat
and Glossy Coat didn't work
so i try what it did to an other skin and it did the something

@kevin

What version of songbird are you using? That could be of use to know, but i'm sorry to say that skin is old and don't think songbird wants skins based on rubberducky to still be out and working. I heard the original rubberducky isn't even going to be updated to 1.0.

it doesn't even work properly for me anymore, so you and I are just going to have to wait for me to finish glossy coat 2, which will be based on the new UI (Gonzo), and shouldn't have any of these odd problems.

@jayuk20
I'm guessing you weren't around for the days when Songbird was 0.6 or earlier, and used a UI called rubberducky, because this skin is based on rubberducky, which doesn't have player controls at the bottom. You're another person that's just gonna have to wait for Glossy Coat 2, which is coming along very nicely indeed... :)

I can't wait for the up-date to get it.

This was the lightest and prettiest skin. Everything is easy to see in it(most black addon skin force user to guess his way through out functions)

Maybe you wait until x-mas to give us that as a gift lol;)

Peace

This won't work unless rubberducky dependencies updates to 1.0 too. I'm making a Glossy Coat 2, and I'm almost done with it. If you want, you can give me your email, and beta test Glossy Coat 2. ;)

I liked the classic Glossy Coat much more than Glossy Coat 2. That being said, I would rather find a different feather than go through the work to get classic Glossy to work.

My two cents.

@K.Monkey
I know what you mean. I like the classic better too. But, for progresses sake, they have to give up rubberducky support. I'll try my best though in trying to remake this in Gonzo. Glossy Coat 2 wasn't a remake.
