I CAN HAS SYSTRAICONN!!@!
Nice to see…a Must have.
It works well when clicked from system icon.
Several Issue with this.
–“Minimize to Tray” does not work when minimized from Titlebar or right-click context menu. I have selected “close button minimize to tray”.
It does minimize but cannot revert it. Song plays well but all controls are not working.
I have to kill SB to stop sb.
i know about this problem.
We will fix it as soon as we got time to
play with it, for now just try to don’t close
it just click on the icon in the tray if you need to hide it
Thx
Please make a Linux-64bits version, I’ll really appreciate this ! :)
Any update in sight for 0.6 final?
If anyone is interested, I will put up a new version (modified to work with 0.6 final) that is entirely unofficial. This will, of course, have to be on my site, as I can’t update this one.

updated! sry to be late
Thanks! Great work!
Problem is when i say close from rightclick context menu from panel it closes SB window but SB process is still alive.
inf3rn0, we've got some feedback coming in from GetSatisfaction for your add-on:
FireTray isn't working properly
Some of the options offered by FireTray (add-on 173) don't work:
- Start the program minimized
- Confirm application exit
- Close button minimizes to tray
Also, it's only possible to minimise to the tray by clicking on the egg icon (in the tray). If you click on the minimise button, Songbird minimises to the toolbar (as per usual) and if you click on the close button, it closes.
Version: Songbird/0.6.1 (20080623082739) (2008052304), Ubuntu (Gutsy Gibbon)
The tray icon does not show up for me at all
I am trying to install the 64bit Firetray and it tells me that it isn't compatible with the version of Songbird I have installed.
FireTray 0.1.5 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Songbird 0.6.1.
Could you please tell me when this might be updated?
Agreed with Thene, doesn't work for the 32 bit version, either.
I really dig this extension, and look forward to updates to make it work, well, functionally.
Can we get a picture?
Do you think you can update it to work for songbird 0.7 ?
Thank you
It works fine with 0.7.0, if modify the install.rdf file into xpi archive.
Anyway, it misses almost all features Amarok has instead of hiding Songbird window :(
It can't change volume/show osd text etc.
I'm new to Songbird, are there known feature requests for minimize to tray and global shortcuts functionality?
works pretty well for me (with songbird 0.7) except the options of this add-on
For example, I cannot minimize to tray when I close the window, it closes the application :(
I hope a soon coming update will fix it.
How did you guys manage to make it work with songbird 0.7, for me it's says not compatible with this version
Looking at the plugin I see this is 32-bit only. Any chance of a 64-bit version? How about making the source available?
is it possible to change the firetraysymbol, and if, how?
The source is available on google code, search it.
The icon is not changable for now, and i haven't time now to fix it
but expect something someday
Not compatible with 1.0.0rc1
Sorry, but can't use Songbird until I can close to tray.
Running 8.10 Ubuntu BTW in case somebody would be kind enough to post a link to a working alternative.
1.0.0rc1??
Is it out? i think only ubuntu got it by nightly builds.
However just modify the install that comes with the extension
and should work
cheers
Diego
This plugin fails on 0.7. File->Close to System Tray works, but it will neither minimize to the tray nor does the close button send it to the tray (and yes, I changed my preferences accordingly). Please advise.
@Jaymoon
For those of us running Songbird 1.0, here's a hacked xpi file that accepts songbird1.0 -- until inf3rn0 uploads a legitimate version ^.^ . Granted, this comes w/ *no guarantee*, but it works fine for me on Kubuntu Intrepid, so...take it or leave it.
thanks @jabapyth ;)
Unfortunately the hacked xpi file doesn't work at all, at least for me running Ubuntu 8.10 x86_64. Though it installs without complaining, no tray icon shows up.
why is the "install" button greyed out :(
will there be new version for 1.0?
Sorry all,
i will release the new version as soon as possible.
Cheers
Diego
I LOVE YOU! ;-)
Songbird in my Notification Area in Ubuntu 8.10. YAY
Only the context for the icon does not work well. The Windows List there but empty. And there are too much Seperator Lines in it.
But it works!
Thanks for this addon!
what??
your windows list is empty??
i think is due to the version of gtk or pango, because on my arch linux works good...
i wouldn't have uploaded the wrong version lol..
im on arch 64 bit not working
there is no system tray link
is 32 bit only, i need to compile it for 64
olĂ , i have add next and previous button (for next and previous song). I'have added minimal code only to core.js. Can i submit my code or contribute?
PS: the site is down....
> i need to compile it for 64
where can we get the 64bit version (when compiled) ?
I have added small icon. Only using gtk stock image. I have publish the source and the .xpi at this page. Ahh, sorry but is in italian, my english is shit.
why is the popup menu filled with menu separators? it shouldn't have any.
and the windows list is empty with me too. this needs a lot of work.
I would like to work on this project. I found a lot of results for firetray on google code. Can anyone provide a link to the latest version of this add-on?
Sorry, this does not work with Songbird 1.0 on the Acer Aspire One. (Linpus Linux). No tray icon, nothing. But Firetray for Thunderbird and Firefox work fine.... strange.
It's sort of working for me on Fedora 9. I see the tray icon, and *sometimes* it lets me minimize to the tray when i click the icon, but usually it doesn't, and after switching between the mini player and main player, multiple "music" lists are added to the tray icon's menu. Someone please just make it work and get rid of all the separators.
Same here: The tray menus don't work, have to kill sb when minimizing to tray other than clicking the icon. When is the new version coming out?
Impossible to install that on Songbird 1.1.1 on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex
your linux is 32 or 64 bit version?
Now I have install your plug-in on my Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex 32 bit ;)
But... It's very strange... lol
I have 6 times the same Previous Track, Play/Pause,...
Yes i know about this bug.
The problem is that i cannot find a fix, i have already tried by deleting all songbird informations
and reinstalling it but i can't find a solution.
I hope to take care of this on the next release
Thanks you ;)
It is possible to put this Addo-On in French please?
Merci ;)
Hi,
I've just done a fresh install of songbird 6.1.1 and Firetray (along with a bunch of other extensions). I'm on Ubuntu 8.10 32bit.
When I right click on Firetray I get repeat commands, as mentioned above.
I've disabled all other extensions and restarted. After a Songbird restart Firetray is repeating the drop down menu twice. No tracks have been played at this point. If I use songbird for a few hours this list will grow. After using Songbird intermittently for 24 hours the drop down list was almost 2 full screens long.
Regards, Donal
Donalb thx for the report about the strange behavior which i don't know how to fix atm.
On my computer i have got the tray menu voices doubled one time only.
Maybe something is resident in gtk options or something like that, this would justify this weird behavior.
Diego
I've been able to increase the number of menu items for the icon repeatably by changing feathers. Each time I change feathers, two new of each menu item is added.
I like to prepose a new menu order, because 'Next Track' is usually be used the most, put it on top. And also introduce an option to rate the current song.
Also the icon in the notification area is way to big, is there a possibility to make it smaller?
Tray Menu
Rate
I got a loop in my tray... every time I got more and more "play/pause previous track etc" ... they repeat and repeat...
Plus, if I dont have activatedthe action "when close to tray" my songbird closes but the music still goes on, and the trayicon is useless.. I have to close everything from songbird for it to work again.
This is a really good add-on, but I have a suggestion... If possible, it would be nice that when you hover, it would display some information about the current song, such as name, artist, album... Ideally, I really like the way the banshee tray icon works giving you a mini player when you hover over the icon with a couple of buttons, info on the song and a play bar... I might be getting greedy though...
Broken. Author admits no fix in sight. Shouldn't potential new users be notified of this at the top of this page?
Addons are potentially a good idea for Songbird but when basic expected functionality is off-loaded to addons, which then don't work, the Users get screwed.
Regards
Donal
Thanks for the great addon.
Is there any chance we would be able to have an option to have the notification of a song change to always be on top even when full screen applications are up?
Thanks!
Please put a description and a screenshot!
Works awsome on my fresh install of kubuntu 9.04 beta, thank you !!
can't install it in Debian lenny. Any ideas why?
Thank you for such useful plugin ! Waiting an update for songbird version 1.1.2
I use AllTray to minimize it in Ubuntu 8.10 - just FYI. Although this plugin would be much nicer!
Hey Guys,
If you would like to run FireTray on SongBird 1.1.2 then do the following:
1.) Download the XPI file.
2.) Extract the install.rdf file.
3.)Make the following changes:
Change Max Version to 1.1.2
<!-- Songbird -->
<description>
<em:id>songbird@songbirdnest.com</em:id>
<em:minversion>1.1.1</em:minversion>
<em:maxversion>1.1.1</em:maxversion>
</description>
B) Change version 0.1.13 to 0.1.14
<description>
<em:id>{9533f794-00b4-4354-aa15-c2bbda6989f8}</em:id>
<em:version>0.1.13</em:version>
<em:type>2</em:type>
4.)Save the file
5.) Copy install.rdf back into the xpi archive.
6.) Install the XPI.
I will also be working on cleaning up FireTray. Hopefully I can get the help and support of the original author.
Thanks lbakalinsky! That worked for me it seems.
The button is grayed out :(
Running Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit and using Songbird 1.1.2
Would also love to see this working in Ubuntu 9.04 (32 bit), with Songbird 1.1.2. Any chance of someone posting the XPI file so we can modify it ourselves?
Cheers.
The notifications work great! 8.10 was good, now they're beautiful in 9.04. But is there a way to have the album art display in the stead of the bird?
Thanks
Rohaq & RPG_Master, just follow my directions and it will work.
carignan.boy, It's possible if you have the programming knowledge. Our first goal should be to clean up the current code, fix the tray icon, and the right click menu.
hey it did work!! thanks a lot
i look forward to have album art display.
please if someone knows how to do it, share it!
Hello,
I just got it working in 1.1.2 Not to hard. However I have a bug.
I suppose I should just file a bug report but anyways,
when I close the Songbird browser (as the preferences would have me believe) the whole browser closes instead of minimizing to the egg in the trey. So the only way I can actually minimize to tray is by clicking the egg. Not a huge deal, but still...
Also, it'd be cool if there was a different icon instead of the egg. I get it, but I think it looks ugly... sorry.
Thanks for the otherwise awesome plugin.
-Dylan
when will you have a working version for Songbird 1.1.2, Build 1042 (20090331141709)?
This is a great add on i miss it already
I made a small change to your extension to deal better with notifications. I did the following:
In core.js, I moved line 569-570 (if(howSong)...)to become line 567-568 (before if(artist.length>30)...). That way, long text is passed completely to the notification daemon.
why can't i install it?
I can't click the install button. I have the latest version for Linux: 1.2.0, Build 1146
@Bradj47
@matbonucci
Apparently, the author abandoned the project and now we're left with no tray icon addon :(.
Please update for songbird 1.2.
thank you!
Got it to work on Songbird 1.2.0 by doing this:
1.Download the XPI file.
2.Put the XPI file to Songbird's extension directory
(in my case it was in /home/myusername/Songbird/extensions, where myusername is
whatever you use as your username :) )
3.Double click on the XPI file
(this should open a file manager window with only one folder called firetray or something
similar)
4.Double click on the folder and you should see a list of files
5.Double click on install.rdf
(now you should be able to edit the file)
6.Change max version to 1.2.0 (or to 1.2.*) from 1.1.3 as follows:
<em:targetapplication>
<!-- Songbird -->
<description>
<em:id>songbird@songbirdnest.com</em:id>
<em:minversion>1.1.1</em:minversion>
<em:maxversion>1.2.0</em:maxversion>
7.Save the file
8.Close the open windows
9.Open Songbird
10.Click File
11.Click Open a File
12.Go to your Songbird extension directory
13.In the extension directory you should see the XPI file
14.Double click on the XPI file
15.Now you should get the option of installing
After a restart you should be able to use firetray
It did work for me.. on Ubuntu 9.0.4
No effect on KDE 4 in Debian
eheheh, i was in relax the last months so i didn't update this extension.
There will be a new release maybe, but i'm not sure.
Cheers
Diego
At the original extension's site we've released a new version which enable multimedia keys and custom icons.

@lbakalinsky: thanks a lot it worked fine
