Re-arrange your control pane and toolbar

shifty

Description

First release of a simple tool which allows you to rearrange your tool bar and control pane.

Plus, you can hide elements you don't use!

Alt+S is a shortcut to its preferences panel, which lists all of the elements you can arrange. Select the one you want to move and move it up or down with the arrow buttons. Elements with a tick are displayed, elements without are hidden (but not deleted, so you can bring them back when you want).

Alternatively, you can rearrange (but not hide) elements from the main Songbird window: right click on an element with the Alt key down (Alt+RightClick) and use Alt+LeftArrow and Alt+RightArrow to move it. When finished, press Esc, click on another element or click on the element again to clear the highlighting.

You could email me at songbird.shifty@gmail.com, with comments or bugs but I don't intend to do anything more withthis add-on.

@Simon: Oh man this function what was missing in Songbird! Awesome! :)
Some remarks:
- Alt+LeftArrow and Alt+RightArrow don't work to me (and the Up, Down arrows would be better)
- Would be great if you could separate the item selection and the hiding by check-box (very disturbing if I just select an item and it is disappears because the check-box is selected too)

Thanks for this nice stuff!!! ;)

@Hiromacu:

did you try Alt+LeftArrow and Alt+RightArrow from the main Sb window? They work fine for me (with your Chrome skin!).

(The instructions weren't very clear; Alt+LeftArrow and Alt+RightArrow were never meant to work on the prefs panel)

@Simon: OK! Now I understand how works it. Thanks, good idea!! :)
I have some remarks to this feature:
- item selection by a left-click (on the main view) not so good, because it's activate that item. A right-click would be better,
- Alt+LeftArrow and Alt+RightArrow shortcuts are the "back" and "forward" function in the history,
- the highlight clearing would be better by pressing the <esc> button.

What do you think?

Great stuff, thank you very much, it works very well with the default gonzo layout, but unfortunately not equally well with feathers that slightly modify the media-pane.

Btw, It seems you're being bombarded with icons, I've just send you one too;-)

@ Hiromacu:

I'll change Alt+(any?)Click to Alt+RightClick and try to add ESCape to clear the selection in the next version. (I had no luck getting button events working, so far; I wanted to clear the highlighting when the Alt key is released).

@ GeekShadow,

Thanks for the icon, it will appear in the next version.

@GeekShadow: re the font issue - did you have sleepTimer installed? That may be misbehaving with its CSS ...

Nice update Simon!
I'm wondering, why the spacer background-color is not set to transparent. Any particular reason?

verso: I was finding it hard to know when I was moving over or selecting a spacer (particularly when they were only a few pixels high). So I made them full height and coloured them blue, but I should have changed that to be only when selecting/moving - will fix next version!

How did you go with Zippy? Is it OK now?

Hej Simon.
thank you very much for your add-on, I like it really much.
Usually I like the color blue BUT not as a spacer in a feather that doesn't blue ;)
Would be really appreciated if you could change that in your version!

Idea: Ability to add fixed and flexible spacers where one wants to (f.e. Firefox navigationbar or something). Maybe depended upon the feather, but anyways thx man

@Marko - what's wrong with blue? Everyone loves blue.

I'll fix it asap (I'd forgotten all about it)! It shouldn't be too hard to add spacers, so I'll look at that, too.

Off the top of my head, I think it would be difficult to make the layout change with feathers. I've seen something called 'layouts' which are supposed to be used for that for type of thing- but no-one seems to be using them. There was a player shaped like the bird, some time ago...

Cheers
