Doesn’t work with Samsung YP-T9 :–(
Any way to configure the add-on to support this device?
Thanks
This provides MTP device support in Songbird 0.5pre and above.
This add-on requires Windows XP SP2 and above with Windows Media Player 11 installed.
With this add-on, you'll be able to:
Updated for 2.2.0 release.
Doesn’t work with Samsung YP-T9 :–(
Any way to configure the add-on to support this device?
Thanks
Just a little point, please !
add some kind of confirmation message on the right-click menu option ‘remove’ for tracks in the library.
The remove option removes track from the device without warning (I know it is supposed to do so, but…).
A little message could help the user !
Using with XP SP3 Build 3300 and WMP 11.
MTP support is not working with either my Creative Zen Vision:M or my Sony Ericsson W910i (set to MTP mode)
Both devices work correctly in Winamp 5.52, Mediamonkey 3, and Windows Media Player 11.
Works great with my Creative Zen Vision:M on Windows Vista! This is the extension I have been waiting for. Keep up the good work!
It doesn’t work with an iriver iclix. I am not a developer, just liked songbird and firefox, if anyone knows what I can try to get it to work, it would be much appreciated.
I am running Songbird .5rc2 and MTP device support 9.6 and I still can’t get my iriver to popup much less sync any music through songbird. Do I need to enable/activate it or add it to some device settings? Maybe there is something I need to do to the device? Again any help is appreciated.
It doesn’t seem to work for Creative Zen V Plus. I have WMP 11 installed and it works on that.
Any time I try to access the device a window pops up stating that it cannot connect to the device.
I can see the the files on the device and can create a new playlist but cannot add new songs or remove songs or add songs to the playlists
It doesn’t seem to work for Creative Zen Stone Plus. I have WMP 11 installed and it works on that.
Windows XP SP2
If i can help to understand way telll me how .
Hello,
It would be good if MTP supports that kind of open source firmware project for mp3 players : http://www.rockbox.org/
Thanks
It seems to work fine with my old Creative Zen Micro. :D
Hello.
I just got a Creative ZEN 4GB today, and figured I’d try this out.
I don’t know if I’m being stupid (probably) but I don’t know how to do it.
I downloaded the plugin, restarted Songbird, and my ZEN was plugged in..couldn’t find anything that said “sync” or anthing like that.
any help is greatly appreciated.
(I’m running XP pro x64 edition, btw)
I wonder if it’s possible of putting on Linux via libmtp which doesn’t require Windows.
Where can I found this “thing” in Songbird?
Go to Tools/options/add ons. No options for this though. I have a Zen Stone Plus and it won’t sync or show up in songbird either. :–(
oh poop
i had been waiting for a player that would let me FINALLY sync my Jukebox Zen Xtra for years
wmp10 is horrible and wmp11 seriously breaks both my computer and
my player and when i heard MTP
compatibility was likely here i was all over it
but you used the wmp11 version and i am as such buggered
how hard would it be to make an alternative, wmp10-based
version?
This didn’t work out for me, it showed my device, and I could put files on them and take them away, but everything stayed the same on my player, it was like nothing happened. PS, I have a SANSA m230
Hi, does anyone know if it works with WM6 devices and, if so, how to configure it? Cheers
I suggest, to these mtp addon site, put the players witch run in
mtp.
We users don’t know witch player we can buy to use on
songird.
a worst exemple, I have a bought a creative Muvo, and I had fright
that cannot sync with it.
Please place a database of all players compatible, on this
“addon site”.
I have Sony NWZ-S618F. Adding and
removing songs works well but it doesnt adds the Album-art
covers.
It would be nice if that could be fixed =)
I second the album-art request. All my portable mp4 player needs is a .jpg file in the album directory and it displays it.
Also... where can i comment on "podcast" management ( i know we dont call them podcasts anymore but sorry ) --- even though its a bit off topic here .. i would like to be able have expiry limits so as not to have to manually delete from my HD and also maybe a way to automatically transfer to a portable MP3 player.. (ie, wake up, unplug my MP3 player and have the latest news report waiting for me.) THANKYOU:.. i downloaded SONGBIRD yesterday and i really like it...
If this plugin came on the Mac version, it'd be great...
Very nice, and exactly what I needed!
didn't work on my samsung sv-mp730v
Creative Zen Stone, still doesn't work! I tried to find source code in svn for this extension, but couldn't find it. Where is it??
i keep coming back about once a week to see if this is mac compatible so i can use it with my creative zen vision m. i've been following songbird since 0.2.5 just for that feature now its my favorite media player and i think i've turn a dozen of my mates into songbird fans.
is there any site of it working on mac on the horizon, a ball park month maybe?
keep up the good work
since upgrading to v0.7, this add on no longer works with my Samsung YP-P2 - device is no longer displayed in left-hand side bar.
I can't get this to work with my N95 8gb, I've tried changing usb profiles but nothing seems to work songbird detects it, but it won't sync properly.
not workin with my YP-p2 either :(
Can't get it to work with my Creative Zen
I updated the mtp device support to 1.0.11.716
I am using SB version 0.7.0.
I have both a vista and a xpsp2 machine.
My device is a creative Zen -V (1gb model)
This device worked correctly on both machines with 0.6.0 and after the upgrade to 0.7.0 it does not work at all
please let me know if I can help with this in any way I have a debugger on the xp machine.
My Mp3 player isn't coming up in Songbird 0.7.0 either.
I had no problems prior to upgrading from 0.6, so must be something wrong with the new version. I'm running XP.
My phone Samsung F250 doesn't show up in Songbird 0.7 although it works with Windows Media Player just fine. Hopefully the support for MTP devices will get better and better ^_^. Kudos to the devs working on this.
1.0.11.738 does not work with my loadout either.

I used this add on with my Zune 30 with Songbird .6.1 and it worked fine. But when I updated to the newest version of songbird (0.7) it stopped working completely.
Damn it don't work. Samsung YPK3 and Linux running :(
The problem seems to be Linux.
I've tried it under Windows with the same playerversion and my YPK3. I have NOT installed Win Media Player 11 an it works fine. The YPK3 is shown as an device and can be filled with music without any problems.
In Linux Ubuntu 8.04 and the 0.7.0 Version of Songbird i can't install this add on for MTP device support. The Button is grey and unusable. Why i cannot install this addon!? Is it an Linux Problem...or a problem between Songbird and Linux. Don't they like each other? ;o)
Please keep working on it...i love Songbird and don't want to use another player.
Greetz and sorry for my "school-english"...i'm from germany. erdhase.
Erdhase: When you go to the download page for this add-on, you'll notice that the only version available for download is the Windows version. That's why you can't install it on Linux.
It would be great if I could use Songbird for Linux with my Creative Nomand MTP device. Why is there only a Windows version? Is it so hard to develope a linux version, or is there nobody who is doing it?
any word on mac compatibility yet?? i know they're are people who want it maybe have a look at XNJB for there open source code. i really want to get testing it ?
Any possibility of getting Linux compatibility for MTP device???
Why are you using WMP11??? Winamp use it's own.
OK, had songibird 0.6 and worked fine with iAudio D2 player, even with SD card in it. After upgrading songbird to latest my player is not visible anymore :( . I am running on windows, WMP11 in place. Any ideas?
I just grabbed Songbird RC1 and MTP is finally working! Fantastic.
However I do have a question. I have an MTP device that has two separate storage pools - an internal memory on the device, and an SD card. When I connect the device to the computer, both memories show up. However, Songbird only seems to see the total of the two memories - ie, 1 gig internal + 7.5gig SD = 8.5 gig MTP device. When I sync my library, it first fills up my device's internal memory, and once that's full it moves onto the SD card.
Is there a way to tell Songbird "only pay attention to the SD card"? Otherwise my music library is spread across two separate memories, and that sucks. It would be great to get it to sync only to my SD card.
Does somebody now if there's any Zune Device support extension for songbird? I'm looking for an alternative to the Zune software which doesn't s**k.
It does not work for the Creative Zen Stone. Or at least I haven't figured out how to make it work with the Creative Zen Stone. Help!
I also want to connect a Creative Zen Stone (Plus, 2GB) what we actually need is USB support...
I'm happy my Meizu M3 Music Card now work just great !
my sandisk sansa express doesn't really work (i.e. doesn't upload or download songs of device) my 2nd Gen Ipod works better it doesn't download off the device other than that it works really well. great addon =D
My Creative ZEN works great. The only thing I am missing is album art support.
I wait to the linux version
doesn't work with Nokia n95 in media player.
Shows up ok and can read tracks on the n95, but can't copy tracks to it, nor sync.
When copying tracks/playlist (in manually manage mode), nothing happens:
tried dragging and dropping playlist, dragging dropping files, also tried selecting files and right click->copy to device,.
when I try to "send to device" it shows an error: "songbird encountered and error that resulting x files not be copied" reason: unexpected:
If I try to sync, it tells me it's already synced with another library, do I want to erase everything and copy new stuff over - which I clearly don't want to do.
Currently device is music free, but DOES have podcasts on it
hello
there's still NO SUPPORT for creative zen stone plus - a heavy popular mp3-player in europe! DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO CONNECT IT WITH SONGBIRD ?
Could someone please just put up a readme, doc, or man page?
Question:
Is there some sort of indication whether songbird sees my music player?
I agree with matcatc -- a readme or something would be helpful. I've got my Zen Vision M hooked up - when I open Songbird, the Zen screen shows itself as docked, but there's no indication in Songbird that the device is attached.
So I am in the market for a new MP3 player. I want to use songbird, but it appears my only choice will be an ipod. The samsung 2P is what I think I want to get. I am running mostly Linux and some Windows. So from what I can tell, it won't work with Songbird 1.0 or on Linux. Comments?
My Sensa Fuze 4GB doesn't work with it. When I drag files onto the device, it will copy some, but then gives up halfway through with no error displayed. You need to then go to the device screen and click the warning icon to see "Songbird encountered and error...". The details just says "Unexpected:".
At this point, the only way to do anything with the device is to restart songbird.
I could only get it to sync with my iriver clix by right clicking all the songs and selecting "add to device", but that doesn't always work either and even then it doesn't sync ratings or album art.
Just a follow-up: My bad, I'm an idiot. I thought I had WMP 11 installed, but I actually checked and realized I was still on 10. Upgraded to 11 and Songbird now recognizes the Zen Vision M.
Any way to get Linux MTP support?
having problems transferring music with sansa clip 4GB with Windows XP
Songbird crashes partway through the transfer.
I don't know why, but it always seems to be at the same point.
Maybe my mp3 player is just too shitty, but it also doesn't transfer playlists well.
Will this work with a Rio Karma (in theory it will, but has anyone tried it)?
If it will purleeeeze bring out a mac version.
Roar... Roar... I am looking for a version of the MTP Device support that will work with Mac, is that a future plan?. Not all mac users, uses iPods =0)
Managed to get this working on the Memory Card in my C905, the Library for the card appears below the Radio Channels.
However I tried to transfer 46 songs and only 13 transferred any reason why this might happen?
Doesnt Work for Sansa e250 i cant tranfer files!!
not working for Samsung YP-Q1
Please make a linux version, I think there will be a lot of happy users out there!
8 of 68 comments here are about getting a Linux version, that is almost 12%.
What are the chances of someone working on this for Linux?
First of all, Songbird should be a native MTP/MSC application. Which means it should be integrated instead of handled through an add-on.
I have a Sony-Ericsson C905, it works. But it sends the data to the phone memory instead of the memory stick. Seems like it can only handle a single MTP device on the same device.
Which means it doesn't fully support the MTP standard, only partially. So that needs to be fixed.
Aswell as support for multiple operating systems, but this is possible by integrating it natively in the application. Don't know how the whole XULRunner thing works though...
OK- maybe I am just not able to find it, but there seems to be NO option to synch to your MP3 Device... How do you put music on your device through Songbird?
SB doesn't recognize my Walkman nw-s205f :(...
If the device is recognised as a USB device not a MTP device then you won't be able to sync with SB 1.1.1
Hi,
I'm running Songbird 1.1.2 on my Ubuntu Jaunty :-)
Unfortunately, and has is at been already mentionned, there is no support for MTP :-( My YP-P2 must live with Rythmbox, and this, people.. this really sucks!!! because Songbird is way better!! :-)
Hope we will see soon a MTP-LINUX :-)
Have a nice time and please don't forget the "free people" ;-)
++
It worked for a while under XP with my Sony A818 unit, but now.... well it does not work...
I used to be able to play some tracks from the unit, now I can't and and can't transfert either.
As a user, an updated (and working) version of the add on would make me go back to Songbird as my main music player (I switched to winamp when the add-on stopped working properly).
Otherwise, great job.
This really needs Linux and OSX support to really be worth it, as well as getting rid of the WMP11 requirement.
Good application, but there is a problem whit displaying total memory of my Samsung YP-S3:
songbird shows about 8gb of total space, but it have only 4gb and when i transfer more than 4 gb the application doesn't transfer the files, but there isn't any notice of this, so i find empty folders and no music :(
Thanks!
I'm disappointed to find that this does not work on Linux. There is an MTP library for Linux, and amarok (e.g.) will work with MTP devices. I'd be happy to do some work on this if someone could give me a few pointers about where things would need changing.
Works perfectly with my Samsung G600 mobile phone.
Adds albums and tracks correctly and creates play lists in the format the phone understands.
Only drawback, doesn't seem to upload the album art or if it does, it's not being displayed. It could be that the Samsung doesn't reads ID tags (?).
I became disappointed cause I don't have and neither interested in Windows Media Player 11. MTP Device should work directly with transfers between a PC and other devices like pen-drives. What about this idea?
Moreover, if I used WMP 11, I certainly wouldn't have Songbird.
I am so pleased with this add-on, and actually... this is what made me continue to use Songbird because I was looking for a media player where I could plug in my Sansa player. It works great, and the only problem I had was Songbird not recognizing the MTP device when it was already open, but I re-opened Songbird and then it worked fine. :D
hallo, I have installed mtp device 1.0.14.1146 .
I have Zen Xi-Fi but i can't paly the track, i can't see the album art and if I synchronize an album already present in the Xi-Fi i duplicate the album and the program doesn't alert me...
please correct this bug.
sorry for my poor english..
¿WTF? i can't install this, i'm kubuntu 9.04 user.. this plug support GNU ?
Well, the sony-ericsson w760i doesn´t works well, because it detecs them, but when it syncronices, stores the data on the mobile memory, not in the phone card.
Works perfectly with my Sansa Fuze (ver.1 w/ most up-to-date firmware) on Vista64 :)
Sony NWZ-X1061 has some problems syncing, resulting in program hang. When set to sync selected playlists, is it supposed to copy every song across every time you sync it?
Songbird 1.2 on Vista.
Has started working perfectly with my Sony NWZ-A826, album art support would be great though!
Linux, please. :)
Please make this addon compatible with Linux.
Looking at the other people's comments, making it work with linux seems feasible.
Just because most people don't know there are alternatives to Windows isn't a good reason to ignore linux users.
still waiting for linux support
needs n95 support, it worked right after installation on of the nokia suite but after a day it stopped working.
bump for linux also,
I plan on dumping windows when corp accepts windows 7.
So, where's the Linux support for this addon? Here we go, once again! Less attention is given to Linux users, since we don't really exist, right? Then explain how come in nearly every message board, in regards to popular software, there almost always exists a bunch of posts requesting Linux support?
I use Linux on all 3 of my computers, and I never plan to go back to that bloated, restrictive, propreitary Windows garbage, and neither do a lot of people I know.
I find this very odd, since Songbird is probably the most popular iTunes alternative, and which operating system cannot use iTunes at all? Linux! So you would think Songbird would actually give EXTRA attention to its Linux users...
Ditto on the Linux support -- how far away are we from seeing a Linux version?
Lol, guys... I'm a linux user as well, but the whole 'requires Windows Media Player 11' means that the developer is more than likely limited to programming experience with windows os's only. Hmmm, I'm going to talk with a couple of my buddies and see if we can get a Linux tangent to this addin going...
Another vote for Linux MTP Device Support here...
I agree with 'windows2linux' above. SB is a great alternative to iTunes (having just managed to wrestle my Library from iTunes recently!). Sure, I do like much of the functionality of iTunes, but I can get that with Songbird, but without all the proprietary nonsense that comes attached to iTunes.
Oh, except MTP support for my player.
Odd, now that I think about it, open source software not supporting and open OS...
This addon works fine for me on Win Vista, SB 1.2. and a Creative Zen Vision:M.
I had to reinstall the addon once, though.
Synching the library took a loooong time whre nothing happened and the status bar just said "mounting". Then after 5-10 minutes (i have 25gb on my MTP) all of a sudden everything appears. This could be changed so that the user knows that, actually, something is happening.
And i have to say although at the moment i'm not a Linux user, it's a shame that so many people that have the right "spirit" (i.e. the Open Source spirit!) complain about lacking Songbird support for their OS, especially Ubuntu which is becoming more and more popular.
Well, it seems that MTP support does not sync all songs in the playlist. I have 1244 songs in my playlist and only 947 are being synced, after rerunning sync multiple times it ends on about 1008 songs as a max. Odd.
I would love to see sync on Linux, particularly Ubuntu, then I could drop iTunes, finally. Linux support would be huge.
Songbird doesn't recognize my 8GB Sansa View when I plug it in on MTP mode. I have Songbird 1.4b3 installed.
I'm running Windows 7 x64 RTM with WMP 12.0.7600.16385.
It is getting worse wit MTP, it is now only creating the folders in de music driectory on the Cowon S9 but about 34 songs are copied while MTP sais it copied 1153 songs! This plugin is definitely NOT WORKING properly! Need to look for another solution. Songbird isn't on a proper level yet it looks like
really? no Linux support? you have to be kidding. certainly there are plans for support in Linux.
Works Great on my Lg Versa :D
Keep up the good work
Ok, what? STILL no Linux/Ubuntu support? Hey, Songbird Dev Team: Open Source Support, fergodsake.
Hi guys,
I also cant get this to work, does not show up on Songbird.
Wouldnt it be easier to have songbird sync any to visible locations, even a "usb drive" phone/mp3 player etc that your computer thinks is just external storage? That way you could sync between any two locations visible on your computer.
Tx
Mark
Doesn't work with Windows 7 x64 and Creative Zen Vision:M 30GB. Sucks, because I absolutely love Songbird. I am willing to beta test any potential updates though.
Does anyone see this comments??, because many people wants a mtp version for linux, i'm a new user and i want to communicate this to someone, does anybody knows how to tell it to the climb of songbird team??
Thanks
P.D.: Sorry for my english XD
I vote definitely for the linux version.
the rhythmbox works fine 4 me, but songbird is better.
thumbs up!
I have been testing quite a number of MTP (media transfer protocol)-compatible devices with this Extension are here's my results...
The following devices are NOT recognized by this Extension at all (ie. they are not displayed in Songbird's list of connected devices, on the left of the program):
* Research in Motion (RIM) BlackBerry Bold 9000
* Sony Ericsson W850i
* Sony PSP-3002 PSP (PlayStation Portable)
The following devices ARE recognized by this Extension, however only support manual synchronization (ie. right-clicking a file and selecting "send to device") as the settings for synchronization CANNOT be saved (clicking "save" AND "cancel" has no effect):
* Sony NWZ-A826 (K) Walkman
* Sony NWZ-S545 (B) Walkman
At the time of writing I was using the following software:
* Songbird 1.4.3 (build 1438)
* MTP Device Support 1.0.16.1430
And the following hardware:
* Research in Motion (RIM) BlackBerry Bold 9000, running BlackBerry OS 4.6.0.282 (platform 4.0.0.235)
* Sony Ericsson W850i, running firmware R3DA028
* Sony PSP-3002 PSP (PlayStation Portable), running firmware 6.20
* Sony NWZ-A826 (K) Walkman, running firmware 1.01
* Sony NWZ-S545 (B) Walkman, running firmware 1.01
All of the above devices natively support the MTP (media transfer protocol), have been tested as working fine with Microsoft Windows Vista: Home Premium (Service Pack 2) and Windows Media Player 11.0.6002.18111.
CORRECTION:
The "Sony W850i" mentioned above is in fact a Sony Ericsson W760i, running firmware R3DA028...
Do I really need to add my voice to say that we all want a Linux version of this ?!
OK,now that I did my good action of the day, I personally want a Mac OS X oh that too.
I just registered so I could post this. I can't believe the Songbird developers took the time and effort to create a Linux version, only to make it so ridiculously useless for us non-ipod users. Why bother? As othe have mentioned, Amarok, Rythmbox, etc., support MTP and Mass Storage devices, so you guys have no excuse really. I have deleted this totally laughable app from my system.
I would love to see Linux support for this addon.
I am using ubuntu as my default os for over two years now and haven't found a flawless way to sync my creative zen vision:m
If I would by a new mp3 player, it will definitely be an Archos and not another mtp device.
Will not work in MTP mode with my Sansa Clip+. Works in MSC but will not see the external memory (SD card).
Another pump for Linux mtp support. I've been hoping for the last few months that it would happen but no joy so far. I finally got annoyed enough with iTunes that I uninstalled it off my XP box and am test driving ZUNE (ironic I know) .MTP works on XP but not my linux lappy. Linuxmint can see my Samsung and I can browse the contents but SB doesn't know its there. That support would make it almost perfect.
Yes, please add Linux (Ubuntu) support. Not sure if my mp3 player is supported; it's a Sony Walkman NWZ-S545.
I'm with everyone else. I love the ability to use Songbird to discover new content, but because the support for my Sansa Fuze is so abysmal, I use Songbird maybe once every 2-3 months. I use Banshee to manage my device on Linux.
Ridiculous! How long do we have to wait to have this plugin available to linux users? C'mon! It's almost the only reason i'm not using SB at the time...
How do you get Sb to work with a Creative Zen Vison M? I am currently using Windows 7 and Sb will not recognized the player.
In Songbird 1.7.2 with MTP Support 1.0.19.1667, Songbird "syncs" by deleting all music from my Sanza Fuze 4Gb + 16GB MicroSD, and then copying all 14 GB of music back onto it. The entire operation takes over two hours. Why doesn't Songbird simply resync the deltas (add new files, remove deleted files, update changed metadata) instead of deleting and recopying everything?
i cant download de plugin
i was already pissed off with s8500 samsung unit now i installed the kies but when i tried to connect to my mobile another problem crop up ...mtp usb device ...i tried to search for 2 hours still unssuccesful...please help
Hey all, I found a fix for myself, so maybe it'll help someone else out there.....after Songbird finished syncing to my Sansa E250, I had to physically go into the device folder through explorer and move the music I uploaded from the "music" folder under the "system" folder into the "MUSIC" folder in the main directory. I had to unhide the hidden files of course because they were hidden so we all don't just copy music to the device. Hope this helps someone out there, especially if you're using an older device as I am!
for linux MPT support I have tried Banshee and it works more the best.
I used to use gnomad2, but it is outdated and not supported 4 ubuntu now
I used 2 use rhythmbox, but it had problems copying files
I used 2 use songbird under windows, and it was and is good
I am using Banshee now, and am satisfied. :D
Using Windows 7 PC and HTC EVO (Android 2.2) Songbird imports my iTunes songs (all of them) and plays all of my iTunes music from within the desktop software, but when I sync my phone (mounted as a USB disk), most songs sync, but hundreds of other songs either don't show up at all on my phone OR they show up in name only, but aren't playable. I've already tried deleting all of the music files on the phone and resyncing with Songbird, but got the same outcome. If anyone can give me some insight on how I might solve this issue, I'd much appreciate it.
And by the way, I have the songbird app on my EVO. (see above post)
Using Windows 7 PC and Samsung i9000, syncing selected playlists. On the device, album artwork is stored in a folder named 'Albums', but either the built in player nor songbird app seem to recognize the cover images. Instead, if I copy the folder.jpg by hand into the folder Music/<artist>/<album>, the cover is recognized.
So my suggestion is to sync the folder.jpg as well when syncing the mp3 files from the playlist.

Doesn’t seem to work with my Creative Zen Vision. My player shows up and syncs in WMP 11 so I am not sure what is going on.
