Provides integration for lookup of CD metadata directly from the Gracenote database.
This add-on provides support for fetching the following metadata, and setting retrieved values on tracks passed in to the add-on. The fetching is done for complete albums, not on a track-by-track basis.
- Artist
- Track Title
- Album Name
- Genre
- Date
- Track Number
- Album Artist
This add-on exposes an internal Songbird API to provide the lookup functionality as a service. Currently (v1.0.0.1272) the only use of this add-on is from within Songbird's CD Device Support feature.
In later releases Gracenote will be used to populate Album Artwork.
Updating for Songbird 1.10.2 release.

Wouldn't it make a whole lot more sense to use MusicBrainz? Gracenote is old and broken, and it definitely doesn't hold any of the Free Software goals that Songbird does, whereas MusicBrainz is an open and free metadatabase. Metadatabases are more flexible and they work better with classical music genres. If you've studied CD Database history, you'd know that CDDB, the original, was made only for modern Album/Artist/Track situations.
It would also save money for the Songbird team to use the open and free MusicBrainz. Also, a big reason that open and free software doesn't survive is because no one knows about it. Now that people know about Songbird, you should be bringing friends into the picture. MusicBrainz is GOOD! USE IT!
No instructions...How do I use it??
I too agree with AMDphreak... music brianz's awesome...
