Power Tools atreiu

UI for advanced about:config settings and some other tweaks

Power Tools

Description

An add-on for power-users, that helps managing & exploring some nice about:config settings to tweak songbird.
Also I add from time to time some unique Power Tools features, that are not covered by about:config settings.

Only download if you read this Warning!
Modifying about:config preferences can, in rare circumstances, break Songbird, or can cause strange behavior. Only do so if you know what you are doing or are following trustworthy advice!
Also please note that these features are not meant to be officially supported as part of the main Songbird product. These preferences may go away at any point, with no prior warning.

Useful Wikipages for further Information:
* Explaining Advanced Settings
* Explaining Memory/Performance Settings (MUST read, if you want to mess with these options)

PS: Please let me know, if I missed an useful about:config setting.
PPS: I take a bow for all contributors to the Wiki, where I found most of the text for this addon & all the settings.

Release Notes

* 1.1.2: Added custom Power Tools feature to move Bottom-Display-Pane to the top, too.
(unfortunately, right-display-pane can't be moved that way...)

* 1.1.1: Added custom Power Tools feature to move Album-Art-Pane to the top of the Service-Pane.
(after an idea of TheParadox2)

This imo, brings Songbird into the 21st Century. Firefox needs this. What the hell is with this 'dos-like' about:config? I honestly never understood that rationale. I understand the risk, but sheesh.

I needed this personally, so thank you.

Another great Songbird extension atreiu, thanks. *****

I've long thought Songbird devs have put too much stuff in about:confg crap out of a misguided fear of actually having options.

As far as missing a useful config, I believe there is one to tell the album cover viewer to check for folder.jpg. I don't know what that is off hand, but I'd love if it appeared in your extensions cause all of my covers are that way and the devs think its too complicated to be a real option.

Thanks for your feedback, everybody!

cwilliams, yes, but these values are a little bit complicated to set up manually (~6 values have be set correctly, depending on each other). Plus the AlbumArtPreference-Addon does this job perfectly, already ;)

I like that move with the album art pane. That is truly my preference. One thing though, the hide pane button did not follow it.

Is it possible to divide the wide pane where Mash Tape usually reside? Hence the possibility of putting more than one item there.

@deOmega: Yeah, more Display-Panes would be great. I tried some fast hacks, but unfortunately it can't be done that easily... I guess someone else has to give it a try. :-/

This is excellent, thanks. Now I don't have to update about:config manually.

I'd like to suggest adding a power tool option for preventing single key delete of playlists. Or similarly adding a prompt message. I have had several times now when I thought I was deleting an album/song from a playlist but actually deleted the whole playlist by mistake. This is really annoying as there is no undo for this and you have to rebuild the whole playlist manually again. It happens when you select an album in the playlist filter pane and then forget that you need to use Ctrl-A to select all the tracks rather than being able to delete the album. In this case the playlist name is still the focus item and delete instantly wipes the whole playlist from the list rather than the expected album. I've done this twice now because for me the action of selecting the album means to me it would have the focus. I really need an option that prevents one-key playlist deletion because it just seems non-intuitive. Thanks - and I hope you can add an option for this. I'm sure at least a few others will want it as well.
