Gets statistics from your music library
Description
This extension adds a new view, where you can get some information about the tracks and the listening of your Songbird library.
I tried to keep it quite general, so that every user can choose his better parameters for the queries.
It's possible to select a value for each of the following parameters:
- subject which you want to get information about (genre, artist, album, single track);
- order by a specific information (played count, skipped count, last played, rating, number of tracks, time length).
- direction of the order (ascending or descending)
- how many records you want showed in the result
The values from every single track are grouped according to the type of information:
- played count: sum
- skipped count: sum
- last played: min
- rating: mean (only for rated track)
- number of tracks: sum
- time length: sum

My ordnateur did not stand the waiting, songbird "not responding" with 30.000 songs, limit to 50.

I did some modifications in the procedure, which probably improve the situation with very huge libraries. Please look at the "release notes" for details.
Please, take in consideration that the total time of the procedure is not lower (probably is slightly higher...), but now the browser should not be "stuck" in the meanwhile.
My library is "only" 2500 track wide, so I can't test the patch with very huge amount of datas.
Please Seb, or someone else with such a large library or even more, I would grateful if you can test it and give me a feedback.

I have about 12,000 tracks and it does take about a minute to generate a list by highest playcounts for artists. Still, this is a great addon. I made a GetSatisfaction topic with suggestions and mockups for a listening history page because I am interested in finding out listening habits; maybe it could help somehow: http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/topics/a_listening_history_page_with_better_integration_and_more_information_than_last_fm
And could this addon possibly save the statistics somehow and only update them when they need to be, so that they don't need to be calculated each time?

Thanks for feedback, I'm not satisfied by these performances. I'll think someway to improve them more.
I took a look at your link. It's very interesting, that work would make my addon obsolete and useless.
About your question: yes, i think it's possible, but to know if it's needed to update the statistics i must before recalculate them :)

I tried with your new version. It's actually faster than the first version. However, it is still very long with my library of 30,000 songs.
With 50 items, the first part of the bar appears after 95 seconds. Here it is 5 minutes that I started and I'm about to 3 bars.
I will do more tests tomorrow ...

The 1.3 version is out. It should gives much faster performances. Feedbacks are welcome.

The version 1.4 is out. It should give the best result achievable for performances. I always ask feedbacks about performances from anyone has a very huge library (>10000 tracks).
Also some interface improvements are present in this version (look at release notes for details).
Now I'm going to focus on some more ambitious idea (see todo list).

I timed it to give more detailed results: it took 21 seconds to evaluate descending playcounts by artist for a library with 12,403 tracks. And thanks for updating the add-on, I really like it.

to be honest, I hoped in better results, my library of about 2500 tracks is processed in about 2 secs., but problably the performances depend also on the hardware and on the browser used.
I can't think about new improvements for faster results at the moment, but I'm pleased the add-on can be useful.

This add-on don't seem to read my ratings.
All the mean ratings show up as zero, even though I've rated almost every file,
My ratings are stored in library not metadata, and I'm running songbird 1.2 in ubuntu 9.04.
Except this I'm very pleased with the add-on

thank you very much for having reported this error.
I did a wrong assumption about the data model and, in the attempt to have faster results, I did a wrong query.
The bug should be fixed now, try this version and, please, let me know if everything is ok.

And I have another suggestion, to add some kind of album artist tag support for the ' group by album', so the compilations aren't showing up multiple times, but only once with "various artist" inside the brackets.

This is a cool add-on!
Its vey interesting I think it would be great if you added another "filter" or column you have skip and play counts, so what about a ratio of the two?

Doesn't seem to work on my machine: Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit with Songbird 1.1.2. It installed okay, but Songbird would not let me set the preferences, so I uninstalled it.

it works perfectly for me with kubuntu 9.04 64-bit and Songbird 1.2.
There is no preference to set (so far), you have to choose the view "library statistics" after installing.
Please, let me know if you still have problem.

you have to select the menu "View/Media Views/Library Statistics", or select "Library Statistics" from the views drop-down directly.

Hi,
It would be nice to be able to filter results, is there someway to make this possible? By that I mean if I want to vie my albums with highest play count but only want to view albums by a certain artist for example. Or view only albums of a certain genre. Just a thought.

The second screenshot shows a menu for resetting stats values. How do you get that to show up? I tried to find it both before and after updating Songbird (to 1.43), in case it was a feature of the app and not the add-on, but couldn't find it either way.

Never mind. I have it now. I'm not sure why I wasn't seeing it when I right-clicked songs before, but I do now.

Furthermore two suggestions:
-please make "Descending" the default sorting direction, because ascending is often senseless ;)

EinfachToll, thanks for the translations. I had to take out all the umlaut characters, as the locale dtd file works only with UTF-8 encoding. Sorry, I know that umlaut is important for German language, but I have not found any other solution.

Does Library Statistics still allow the ability to reset play count? I installed it, but didn't see any new context menu options.

Great add on, by the way. Adds some very critical functions otherwise missing from Songbird.

great add on, One thing that does annoy is the compilation albums appearing loads of times with different artists when showing by album.
