Pure Player atreiu

A skinable Medium Player

Pure Player

Description

Tipps:

  • Double click on album art opens a big window with the album art.
  • Hold CTRL and move you Mouse over the Pure Player, to move the Player around.
  • Single click on total-time to toggle with remaining-time.
  • Press CTRL + J to evoke Jump To Dialog.
  • Take a look at the Pure Player - Skinning Tutorial if you want to contribute new skins.

Recommended additional Downloads:

Known Issues:

  • Round borders (transparency) are not working on all systems. Try it, if it don't work well, you have to switch it off. There is nothing I can do about this.
  • Round borders & window shadow don't go well together. There is nothing I can do about this.
  • Labels can be cut off by 1-2px sometimes. Help me out with this, please!
  • If your player has a strange size or is looking wired, please load the "default" skin and resize the Pure Player. This might fix it.
  • The different sizes of the player are not being remembered. I'm working on this.
  • The single-mode only works with "Gonzo (default)" and other especially adapted Feathers: BlackfuZZ, Cartoon, Chrome, Gonzo (Sketch-Version), NABS, Orange County, simplyBlack, Walnut, Walnut2, YABS, ... something missing? Leave a comment.

Special thanks:
Credits to Nevezen from deviantart, I was inspired by his this nice concept.
Credits to Stevo for the "More-Gonzo" Add-on, the starting point for "Pure Player".

Not working for me as yet. Windows vista 32 bit. Usiing Songbird 1.1.1

I have had issues with songbird freezing, but stilll, have not had a chance to see it in its glory. :(
After installing under Gonzo, Pure player does not show up as an option.
Unlike your 'view' in image, I have: Main, Mini, Medium, and Main Alternate. Pure is not showing up.

And make sure, you are using "Gonzo (default)" feather, because "Pure View" doesn't show up in the menu, if you are using a different feather.

Round Corners working 100% under Windows 7 :P (without that black rectangle like the one that MoarBewbs shows with his screenshot of Pureplayer working under Vista or anything ugly)
Great Work, would be nice for it to have the option to select an alternate skin for pure player rather than the one that comes with the theme i'm using.

Looking forward to read the Dev's feathering guide too ;-)

OK. It works well with Gonzo (default) and looks good. But I use your YABS feather. It would be great if I could use Pure Player with YABS.

And some suggestions:
- time toggle should work 'on left release' instead of 'on left click' (or 'on right click'),
- double click on album art should start play the alphabetically next album or playlist,
- single click on album art opens the now playing list,
- double click on an empty place changes the skin to the next (if any).

;)

atreiu
atreiu

@Schwadegan: Yeah, I know, I see if I can do something about it...

@Hiromacu: Thanks for your suggestions! Let me comment them:

1. The next update of YABS will include Pure Player support. Stay tuned!
2. Time toggle on mouse button release? why?!!
3. Changing the playlist automatically is too complicated for me. You can hit CTRL+J to get to the JumpTo-Dialog and select your next Album / Playlist manually.
4. I'm planing a simple playlist support (like in Winamp), but this will come in far future
5. As soon as skin-support is implemented, I will think about an easy way to change them.

@atreiu

this is a very nice and innovative add-on.
Though, I don't understand why you completely imitate the i tunes icon.
In addition, there are more appropriate solutions like for example a flying bird.
The round borders don't work.

None the less this feather is very nice ---> the neon theme looks also nice!

atreiu
atreiu

@martin_bighomer:
Icon:
The answer is simple: I spend more time on the Add-on, than on the skins, because everybody can help me with them :) So, send me a nice Icon, that goes well with the Theme, has a transparent background and the correct size, and I use this :) You also of course can do a complete new skin (tutorial is above in the description) and send it to me.

Round borders:
They totally depend on the Operating System, that's why I made it optional. They are working on XP, Win 7 and Vista (if you have fancy Window-effects turned OFF). They are not working on my Ubuntu, and on Vista with Window-effects turned on. I don't know about other operating systems. What system do you use?
Sorry, I can't do anything about it, only the songbird developers can do.

Neon theme:
I skinned it a little bit more, try the last update :)

Thanks!

martin_bighomer: transparency is technically exactly the same, as round borders. So if round borders don't work, transparency won't work either.
You can get both to work for Vista, but you would have to pay a high price and turn off the fancy Vista Window effects in your Vista (don't know, what they are called, I mean the transparent window borders etc). Sorry that I can't do more about it :-/

fwiw, the vista feature is windows aero. I think it is automatically enabled for all of the vista os, except vista home basic. So seems like whatever they have going on with aero theme, is what is giving the headache.

All of us windows users will likely move to windows 7 when launched anyway. lol.

First: this is an excellent add-on, well done.

A minor bug is that if you double-click the album art to get the big picture, when you close that picture window the player goes ahead and interprets the double-click as a "change theme" event. You should stop this bubbling through.

Also, it would be nice if the album art followed other plugins - for instance, I use the last-fm album art plugin because it finds more covers than the standard one, but this means that sometimes the full player has the art and the pure player doesn't. This should be more complicated to implement :)

Keep it up!

@Pokkito: Sure, I will adapt NABS to work with Pure Player. It's the themes, that have to be adapted, not Pure Player. If you miss Pure Player in your favorite themes, just ask the developers of the themes to activate Pure Player. It's pretty fast & easy to do, especially with the HowTo enable Pure Player in other Themes.

I have given NABS too little love these days, but I'll try to do an update for it, soon. ;)

I found something strange:
- Every time when I switch to Gonzo (default) from an other feather (to try something), the view goes to Pure Player immediately even if it was on Main Player. This is very annoying, if I don't want to do.

And there is a bug with round window corners (I think, because it was good before):
- If I use YABS feather or BlackfuZZ there is no problem with the round window corners (in Pure Player).
Screenshot: http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/4163/sbsswrb2.png
But when I switch to Gonzo (default) it looks no good.
Screenshot: http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/155/sbsswrb.png
And Opacity doesn't work in Gonzo (default).

atreiu
atreiu

@Lib5: Probably add-ons can call composite features, if you code them in C++. But I can't code C++.
The disappearing buttons are, when you use "round borders" (transparency). If you disable them, it should work. Didn't know why it behaves like this, I think I can't fix it.

@Hiromacu:
First problem: yeah, I noticed that too. "More Gonzo" has the same problem, and "Pure Player" is build upon it. I'll try to find a solution, but it's difficult.

Second problem: what system are you running? Have you tried switching through the Skins (doubleclick on Pure Player)? Because this helped me once with a similar problem. I only can tell, it works for me under XP with Gonzo (default).

Hiromacu
Hiromacu

@atreiu:
First problem: OK thanks. Yeah I noticed that More Gonzo problem too in Media Player view.

Second problem: Ehh... After I switched through all the skins, the problem with rounded window is disappeared. But this is weird, because I tried it before I wrote comment.

Songbird 1.1.1, Build 1018 (20090309144748)

@Rolle:
Sorry to hear, that it's not working good for you. You are the first User with feedback on openSUSE, so maybe it's just not working good there.

However, here are some answers to your questions and some ideas, how you can maybe solve your problems:

0.) Birdie-Skin will come in the next update, messing with the source files is not recommended! If you have already messed with the files, please uninstall Pure Player and reinstall it, before you continue.
1.) You can see what fonts you need, in the screenshots! For "Default" you need "Calibri" for example (free download somewhere on microsoft.com).
2.) If you have problems with missing controls etc, make sure you have "Round corners"-disabled in the pure player options! Round corners are the main source of errors on a OS other than XP. Try to enable "Window shadow", too.
3.) Make sure that a Song is being played, when you switch to Pure Player (shouldn't make a difference, but who knows?).
4.) If you still have problems with missing controls, please show me a screenshot (of the pure player with "round-corners" disabled!)

Please report back, if this helps you or not ;)

@atreiu:

0.) Yes, modified options.xul and replaced milkywood for birdie, because I didn't like milkywoord :) temporary solution but worked. Had to try how birdie looks. But I reinstalled it now.
1.) Oh, now I see it. I have calibri installed but I think it looks a bit different in suse.
2.) Disabled it now, but my controls are still missing. Enabled window shadow, doesn't help but looks good.
3.) Nothing changes.
4.) I was coming to that :) here you go: http://peikko.homelinux.org/pureplayer.png (say if file not found, it's on my own server.)

@immaterialman: I don't plan to implement this. I will work on an extra playlist-window instead, where you can see such information. But this is a long road...

@Rolle: Sorry, the authors of the Last.fm - Addon (it is maintained by songbird-team) have to do this. They enabled the last.fm-buttons only for the main player (technically spoken: they applied the overlay only for "layoutWithBrowserOverlay.xul", not for "layoutWithoutBrowserOverlay.xul"). That's why pure player, miniplayer and More Gonzo Mediumplayer can't have these buttons. So you will have to ask the songbird-team, to enable this.

@atreiu: I made a mistake in the Chrome skin. I used an old css file and some of the #pureview tags are missing (at the 'Now playing Info-text' and at the 'Window Control Buttons'). :p

And I have some suggestions:
- An other Pure Player command in the View menu to open/close companion mode.
- Mouse events of the Main Player feather button:
    - left click: switch to alone mode,
    - right click: open/close companion mode,
    OR
    - left click: switch to alone mode (default) or open/close companion mode (optional),
    - left click and release and/or right click: to open a menu to select between alone mode or companion mode.
- Mouse events of the Pure Player close button in companion mode:
    - left click: close Songbird,
    - right click: close Pure Player,
    OR
    - left click: close Songbird (default) or close Pure Player (optional),
    - left click and release and/or right click: to open a menu to select between close Songbird or close Pure Player.

Is there anyway to make pureplayer the default miniplayer on songbird? For instance, the miniplayer icon located on the top left, next to the minimize button only changes it to the miniplayer and not pureplayer. Not sure if there is a simple setting somewhere that will easily fix this problem or not.

@Zogato: If you mean the "Miniplayer"-Button, which is created by my "Pane Buttons"-Addon, there already is an option in "Pane Buttons"-Options to switch to Pure Player, instead to Miniplayer.

@atreiu: Hi! I modified my skins by some reasons (see screenshot).
Screenshot: http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/3909/sbpvs.png
Could you put these modifications into the next update? Thanks!

And one other thing:
- Context menu is incomplete (there is a missing 'Pure Player (allied)' command) and works inconsistent.

If Pure Player is active, the 'Pure Player' command is checked in the context menu. If I select 'Main Player' command from the context menu, Pure Player closes Main Player opens and the 'Main Player' command is checked in the context menu and in the View menu as well. Right this is OK.

But if allied mode is active, the 'Main Player' command is checked in all of the context menus (sure because there is no 'Pure Player (allied)' context menu command) and in the View menu as well (though there is 'Pure Player (allied)' command over there). This is weird!

In allied mode if I select 'Pure Player' command, Main Player closes and only Pure Player runs (like a simple alone mode) and the 'Pure Player' command is checked in the context menu. Right this is OK.

But if I select 'Main Player' command, Main Player opens (this is OK too) but Pure Player doesn't close as works as Pure Player. So Pure Player was still in allied mode even if Main Player was closed. This isn't so good! Chaotic!

(continue in next post)

I did a big test switching between player modes. There are couple of problems with allied mode.

(Bold markings if something missing, doesn't work, wrong or if there is a bug.)

In Main Player mode:
- Status in:
    - Main Player context menu: 'Main Player' is checked,
    - Main Player view menu: 'Main Player' is checked.
- Switch to Pure Player with:
    - 'Pure Player' context menu option,
    - 'Pure Player' view menu option,
    - little feather button:
        - works: Main Player closes Pure Player opens.
- Switch to Pure Player (allied) with:
    - 'Pure Player (allied)' context menu option (missing),
    - 'Pure Player (allied)' view menu option,
    - Ctrl+Shift+P shortcut:
        - works: Pure Player opens.

In Pure Player mode:
- Status in:
    - Pure Player context menu: 'Pure Player' is checked.
- Switch to Main Player with:
    - 'Main Player' context menu option,
    - little feather button:
        - works: Pure Player closes Main Player opens.
- Switch to Pure Player (allied) with:
    - 'Pure Player (allied)' context menu option (missing),
    - Ctrl+Shift+P shortcut (bug) (should disable in Pure Player mode!),
    - should have a Ctrl+Alt+P shortcut (missing):
        - should works: Main Player opens (doesn't work).

In Pure Player (allied) mode:
- Status in:
    - Main Player context menu: 'Main Player' is checked (wrong),
    - Main Player view menu: 'Main Player' and 'Pure Player (allied)' are checked (wrong),
    - Pure Player context menu: 'Main Player' is checked (wrong).
    Should:
    - Main Player context menu: 'Pure Player (allied)' (missing),
    - Main Player view menu: 'Pure Player (allied)' (should disable 'Main Player' checking),
    - Pure Player context menu: 'Pure Player (allied)' (missing).
- Switch to Main Player with:
    >>On Pure Player window<<
    - 'Main Player' context menu option (doesn't work) (because status),
    - Ctrl+Shift+P shortcut,
    - close button,
    >>On Main Player window<<
    - 'Main Player' context menu option (doesn't work) (because status),
    - 'Main Player' view menu option (doesn't work) (because status),
    - 'Pure Player (allied)' view menu option (bug) (should disable!),
    - Ctrl+Shift+P shortcut:
        - works: Pure Player closes.
- Switch to Pure Player with:
    >>On Pure Player window<<
    - 'Pure Player' context menu option,
    - should have a Ctrl+Alt+P shortcut (missing),
    >>On Main Player window<<
    - 'Pure Player' context menu option,
    - 'Pure Player' view menu option,
    - little feather button:
        - works: Main Player closes but Pure Player stays in allied mode (wrong). This is cause confusion.

Sorry if this post was too long. I tried to describe everything. :p

@Hiromacu: I update the skins as soon as I have time for it.

About context menu: It works exactly like it should work. And imho it totally makes sense, if you see the difference between Pure Player and Pure Player (allied):
* Pure Player is a complete different look for Songbird, just like Miniplayer.
* Pure Player (allied) is only an optional feature for the mainplayer, think of it like as of a service pane like "Lyricsmaster". It only can be shown in Mainplayer, it closes, if you close the Mainplayer, etc...

In Context menu there are only the different looks for Songbird (Mainplayer, Miniplayer, PurePlayer). Adding an item for an option like Pure Player (allied) sure would be possible, but it would be like adding an item for Lyricsmaster in the context menu: It would have no function and wouldn't work, unless you are in Mainplayer.

"But if I select 'Main Player' command, Main Player opens (this is OK too) but Pure Player doesn't close as works as Pure Player. So Pure Player was still in allied mode even if Main Player was closed."
=> No, it wasn't open, it reopens. That's the feature introduced with the last update: Pure Player (allied) remembers, if it was loaded in Main Player or not, and then load itself or not. Again, it's just like "Lyricsmaster": If it was loaded before you switch to Miniplayer, it will load up again, if you switch to Mainplayer the next time.

I hope this makes clear, that the behavior isn't chaotic at all. But I can understand your confusion, obviously the underlying logic isn't visible enough. If you have any ideas on how to make this logic more visible, without changing it, I would be happy to hear about it.

I guess I should move the "Pure Player (allied)" menu entry to somewhere else? Because its placement suggests that it's something like "Mainplayer" or "Miniplayer", but it isn't. "Pure Player (solo)" is, but (allied) is not, even if it looks the same. It's more something like "Show right sidebar", maybe I should pack it to these options?

hi atrieu,

So I am completely confused.

@martin_bighomer:

It's the Vista-Aero feature, that enhances the look of Vista. For a reason only Microsoft knows, some of the feature (obviously the ones, that interfere with transparent windows) are only applied to the main Window of an application, not to sub-windows.

If you want Pure Player look good in "solo"-mode, too, you can disable Aero. But of course you then don't have the Aero-Look. Maybe you can try to disable Aero only for Songbird, that should fix the problem, too. I would appreciate it, if you could try this for me and give a short feedback. (I'm on XP and can't test it :)

I love this, definitely in the top 3 essential add-ons. Just wondered, sure you've probably thought of this already, but would there be a way you could cram a toggle shuffle on/off button anywhere? that would make my day. I often find myself having to open up the full sb window just to turn it on or off and then go back out in to pp so i thought maybe it would be useful. Anyhoo, thanks very much, this is great :)

I just have tried your instruction:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/easily-disable-vistas-aero-before-running-an-application-such-as-a-video-game/
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, the round corners and transparency work without problems.
However, while using Songbird the whole aero is disabled in every application!
When you cancel Songbird you automatically switch to aero.
In my opinion, this is a good alternative.
Nevertheless, I would prefer to disable transparency ONLY for Songbird.

Hey!
First of all, thank you for this great add-on, makes up for Songbird's incompatibility with CD Art Display brilliantly.
Second, and this may just be my personal preference, I think the control buttons (prev/next track, pause/play...) are a bit too big and seem to be out of proportion. Also, I think the volume scrollbar is kind of unnecessary since you can tune the volume with the mouse's scroll button anyway.
I reckon making the buttons smaller and losing the volume bar would give the player a more neat and tidy look, but hey, as I said, that's just my opinion.
Again, thanks for your time and effort and keep up the good work :)

Hiromacu

@Vass: I disagree with you about volume scrollbar! Volume controlling is possible by mouse wheel sure, but to see the volume scrollbar is an important feedback. In my sight it is totally necessary!

@Vass: Thanks for your comment! The size of the buttons and the visibility are totally customizable and in the hands of the skin-makers. I only used the same style & size, because I'm too lazy and I focus more on the bugfixes and new features, than on the skins (because anybody can contribute here).

If you want a skin with smaller buttons and without the volume-bar, please take a look at my tutorials-page, make a custom skin and send it to me. I would be very happy about that :) All you need is a little knowledge about css and photoshop/gimp.

@sauntimo: It's really difficult for me to do, but in future I will definitely try to implement support for a winamp-like servicepane (where you could load LyricsMasters or NowPlayingList into).
But before I start with that, I'm planning to fix some more bugs and add some more options. So these new features are not gonna happen soon. :-/
PS: one of the options that will come earlier, is optional shuffle/repeat-buttons ;)

@Vass: Good news about the volume-bar. The upcoming release has an option to hide it, if you want, without creating an extra skin for that.

@LIB53: Can you please take a look at the install.rdf of one of the feathers with working Pure Player? (Maybe BlackFuzz or Cartoon). Compare it to your own install.rdf. I only can tell that it seems to work for these 2 feathers (and my 3 feathers, of course)

And remember: If you change something in install.rdf you have to uninstall / reinstall your feather. A simple restart doesn't apply changes in the install.rdf!
( I usually do this, by closing songbird -> move the FeathersID - File from the profile/extensions-folder to somewhere else, start songbird, close songbird -> move the FeathersID - File back to the original place in the extensions-folder -> start songbird -> done )

If you can't get the bottom of the problem, please send me your install.rdf, and I take a look at it.

I cant drag my skins, and gonzo skin is messed up (it shows all the text twice, above each other).

atreiu
atreiu

@Hiromacu:
* Volume-Bar problem has two causes: 1) The HotSpot-Area isn't accurate enough (I already fixed this for upcoming release) 2) The Volumbar is too long, there should be more space on left and right side, that makes it easy to use the Volumebar and still stay inside the hotspot. I made the bar -10px in the default skin for next release.
* Another option for a different version isn't very convenient. If a second version is needed, it should come as a second add-on. (PS: You don't have to change the Jeans-Skin for me, just take the version your like more. Your use of the the animated-options is not bad, but not very convenient, too, because the user have to go through preferences to change it.)

@Coeluh: 1.) For the "double-text" please enable (or disable? can't remember...) the option "autoscroll text" in Pure Player settings. It's broken, but already fixed for the next release.
2.) Dragging is a known problem, I'm still thinking hard about a solution for this. Hopefully I can come up with something for the next release. Till then, you only can drag at the edges (f.e. 1-3px at bottom or top of default and compact skin, pretty hard) or go back one version to 0.6.

New Version with a few new options and a lot of bug-fixes is planned for next weekend.

Second stevo's comment above, having this be an extra window so I can have this and the main window is a must have. Plus an optional button to show/hide main window :)

Sexy plugin atreiu. ***** It's great to see some real skinning in Songbird beyond the simple background/color scheme changes of every other feather. BottomBar is rocking my world, although I wish it had the JumpTo button.

Here's a bug though: (On Windows 7 using Aero, untested on other Windows) Pureplayer does not remember it's position properly if it overlaps at all with the Windows takbar. The way I position it, it overlaps the taskbar slightly because I want it to cover the 1px white highlight on the top of the taskbar. If I switch away from and back to Pureplayer, it scoots up to the top of the taskbar. Samething if I try to place it inside of my taskbar (works real well with BottomBar), switching away and back it vertically shifts up so its not in the taskbar at all. Heres hoping you can fix this eventually.

FYI rounded corners, remove shadow, and opacity addon all work fine in Windows 7.

@cwilliams: Stevos idea is already implemented for a loooong time. You can use Pure Player as an extra window, by selecting "View" -> "Pure Player (allied)". :-)

BottomBar: You could ask the developer of bottom-bar, if he implements the JumpTo-Button for you.

Taskbar-Bug: Sorry, I just use the songbird-default methods to position PurePlayer. I have exactly the same bugs in XP, but unfortunately I can't do anything about it.

Thanks for your praise and the info about Win 7 compatibility :-)

@atreiu. Ah, can't believe I missed that, allied mode works like a charm. Two allied mode requests:

1. Pure player creates a second window in the windows taskbar, which as far as I can tell serves zero purpose. If there is some reason some people want it, I loathe it and I'd love an option to prevent it. Pic: http://is.gd/Efac

2. The feather icon in BottomBar, which I am assuming works the same as your TopBar, works excellent in restoring the main interface if minimized. If it is clicked while the main interface is focused, however, it would be great if it would minimize the main interface. That way it could be used to show/hide the main window when needed. Bonus points for hiding the main window from the taskbar when minimized this way.

Reference the Taskbar-Bug, I can see it's a Songbird issue. Doesn't happen with other windows apps (for example, Winamp can remember its position just fine in this situation.) Perhaps you can file a bug for Songbird reference this issue so they can fix it on there side, if they ever get to it.

Thanks again for this great plugin!

First of all thanks for your great addon! I love all the new features.

I fixed some bugs of the snap-to-screen capability, so that only the available size of the screen is used and all taskbars are ignored.

Since the whole source of the function would flod this entry, I uploaded the relevant part to pastbin.com.

I personally think pure player should be on the front page along-side LyricMaster and Mediaflow. Also, in the preferences window, you spelled 'visual' as 'visuell'. You might want to fix that. :) Screenshot to save you the search: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2454/3566665485_db25c82520_o.png

I just finished and uploaded my first Pure Player skin yesterday and all I can say is that i absolutely adore this add-on both from a developers point of view as well as a user.
In addition to this your wiki documentation and guides are superb to work with.
The way to position the buttons really makes everything so much easier and with your regular updates this add-on has become one of my personal favorites.

Five stars for you atreiu!

toe_head2001
toe_head2001

Oh, and any change of adding bit rate and sample rate?

atreiu
atreiu

@toe_head2001:

1) You have to add the spacers yourself via css. Check out with DOM-Insp., how the Mainplayer does it. The trackinfo line is exactly the same. I think it's a list-style-image on the artist- & album-label elements, or something. If you can't find it, just ask me again, than I will do some sample-css for this. :-)

2) How/where can I see the bit rate and sample rate in the Mainplayer? I would love to add these to Pure Player, but I rely on the Songbirds functions somehow. (Maybe I could code it myself, too, but that would take longer.)

atreiu
atreiu

@cwilliams:
1) Yes, I want that too, but wasn't able to do it, yet.
2) Yeah, also a good idea, but it's very difficult. Checking if Mainplayer has the focus isn't possible, because at the moment you click the button, PurePlayer get's it. But checking for a minimized Mainplayer isn't enough, because I want it to come to front, too, if it's not minimized but only hidden by other windows. I thought about this problem for long, but it's really difficult to implement good. Maybe later ;)

@brudaswen: Thanks, I look into it. I think it's a good idea to snap to available space, because of the problems with taskbar. I haven't seen this coming when I implemented the snap ;)

@LIB53: That typo is fixed in the next version. Thanks for reporting! :-)

@martin_bighomer, Schwadegan: Thank you. In my opinion PP has too many glitches for the recommended list (mainly the problems with the round-borders). If this only could be solved... :-\

A little suggestion for the snap-to-edges feature. Would it be possible for it to not snap exactly to the edges of the screen but to some distance from the edge? Right now you might get something like this: http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/8841/05312009220346.jpg
I think 15 px from the sides & top and 50 from the bottom would look nice :)

@Vass: I think that comes down to personal preference. Personally, I want it at the edge :)

Cool, but at the bottom of the page I think it should snap to the top of the taskbar, not to the bottom so that it's hidden behind it. That's of course if you have the taskbar at the bottom of the page...

brudaswen
brudaswen

Vass: I added a patch for that, so maybe atreiu will add it into the next release. The patch would snap the player directly to the taskbar. That also works, if you decide to put your taskbar to the top, left or right. Or even if you dock something else to the desktop (IM like Miranda).

Hi Atreiu!

I found a slight bug in the layout's JS code - it wasn't calling windowPlacementSanityChecks() - thus sometimes allowing pure view to get stuck out on a coordinate that doesn't exist when a monitor is unplugged.

I tried to hit your email address, but was having some issues. Here is the patch:

Thanks!

This has probably been mention, but after a quick read through I didn't see it.

How come when I leave Pure Player (to go into the Main Player) it just takes me to the library. What I mean is if I only have one artist and album chosen start playing the songs, switch to Pure Player, then later go back to the Main Player, it goes back to the full library, not just the Artist/Album I was playing from.

I typically switch from one to the other for one reason or another (like add album art or something), and basically have to reselect the album I was listening to every time I do it.

atreiu
atreiu

@Nick: Thanks for the patch!

@davehenning: It's a current limitation of Songbird: you will experience the same, if you switch to Miniplayer and back. To avoid this, you can use "Pure Player (allied)", and just minimize your Main Player.

hi atreiu,

I recognized that the css ':active' state sometimes doesn't change back to default, if you move the mouse cursor fast enough out of the window. That's a little bit annoying since then the pure player shows an inconsistent state (for example the wrong amount of rating stars).

I hope you get the quintessence of my problem.

Do you now of this problem? Is it related to the Songbird core or can you maybe fix that?

Best wishes
Sven.

I have tried to make the skin myself, but didn't work out very well. I've made a design, it is for sitting on your desktop, that's all. The overlay controls are not necessary.

@Boosh: Thanks for letting me know! :-)

@brudaswen: Yeah, that a known problem. I listen to the window for "onBlur" Events, and usually it works, but sometimes the event doesn't seem to be triggered :-( All I could do, was to try a workaround: at least when you click somewhere else (if Pure Player looses the focus), than the states should be reset.

@Coeluh: Looks nice, of course. I'm currently pretty busy with other things, but maybe someone else want to take a look at it? (I'm not sure if it's possible, to show text without any background. Don't know if the rendering-engine can handle that well. But it's worth a try.)

When I double-click in order to change the pure player skin this message appears: "pureview-draggable"
What does this stand for?

Schwadegan

@atreiu;
I've found some odd behavior compared to your previous version.
When continuously clicking different parts of a pure player skin at a rapid pace (like attempting to swap skin) I get a msgbox named [JavaScript Application] that contains a string of the part that is being clicked.

I tried to replicate the behavior in 0.7.5.0 but was unable to do so. The skins I've tested are my own iPhone and your original bundled style.

Because, I can do html/css pretty well, but I only saw a css style sheet, and no html thing whatsoever, which shows in which order which divs are displayed. I got confused.

Coeluh: you don't have to use "html" (its XUL in Songbird, very similar to html but much more powerful). All elements are just in different layers of one stack, so you just can position every element in css with the absolute positions.
If I where you, I would download the Black Diamond Skin, which is closed to your layout, and modify it. Make the background-color of the player transparent & no background-image.Then you will see, how the text looks like without a background (that's the crux in your project, I guess).

1.
Just one small question to the structure of pure player: Is there a list of the used components of the skin? Because I don't see the meaning of #pureview-overlay-box, #pureview-overlay, #rounded-box and some other components.

2.
I'm not sure if this bug is related to pure player or to the songbird core, but designing a skin with a very small height has some very strange behavior. If I change to height of #pureview to less than 35px (let say 19px), the following happens:
- If the background is not transparent, you can see that the actual size is about 33px instead of 19px.
- If you try to open the pp context menu (right click) it opens correctly, but suddenly disappears when moving the mouse.
- And the strangest behavior comes now: If you click right on the shuffle button, so that the specific context menu is opened and click an option there, then the size of #pureview gets corrected and the pp context menu is working correctly.

1. There is no such thing yet, I always wanted to make one Demo-Skin, which explains all element, but didn't have the time so far. In short: #pureview-overlay-box and #pureview-overlay is the layer on top of all other things. You can add a shiny gloss on your player or something. f.e. Compact-Skin uses it. #rounded-box is the thing, that makes the Album-Art have round corners. If you don't want round corners, collapse this element. You can't change the radius or anything, just show or hide.

2. I ran into this problem, too, when I was working on Top-Bar-Skin. It appears, that only the "allied" player is affected, the single-player gets the correct size. I have no idea why, it might be a Songbird issue. The only workaround is, to use transparent background, so the player is 35px height, but it seems only to bo 19px. Thats what I did with TopBar-Skin.

I was making a "get pure player" button for my Black Diamond page and made a decent template that I'd like to share with other pure player skinners. Here's my pack: http://www.box.net/shared/5d0303l348. It contains .xcf's for Gimp users like myself, and .psd's for photoshop users. I also packed some other colors i made with it just as proof that the template is quite editable. I wanted to share it, but didn't know a better place to post it, so here it is, and thanks for the cool add-on atreiu. :)

Got it working. Mac users, apparently changing the extension of the zip file to ".xpi" in Finder is not enough - you actually have to go into the zip file's "Get Info" window and delete the ".zip" from there. Then Songbird should install it correctly (I had to restart it twice; the first time I restarted it ONLY gave me the option to use the Pure Player; I couldn't get back to the main player. After disabling it, restarting, and re-enabling it, everything was fine).

The file must be ".xpi", rename to "pureview-v0771.xpi".
In Songbird 1.4.3 works Pure Player-Birdie Skin and Compact Skin.
I use GNU/Linux Kubuntu Karmic and this Pure Player forced works.

Atreiu, PLS, update Pure Player! ^^
