@abo : Install the developper addon + install "recommand playlist" + force install
excellent addon !

Recommended Playlists uses Last.fm's similar artist database to create playlists of songs from your library that sound great together. No account or login required; just play a song and click the Recommended Playlist button to get started. Discover songs in your library you never knew you had - and rediscover forgotten classics.
Recommended Playlists will create a playlist using sources in the following order:
Try selecting songs by more than one artist for a genre-spanning mix.

excellent addon !
Nice codeine!
Seems to work pretty good! Definitely a must have!
You are a genius (excuse the pun)! This achieves the same thing as iTunes' genius, but without the convoluted login and scanning of one's music. Good work. I'm loving this already. Thank you.
genius was one thing i missed in that horrible iTunes. thanks for the great add-on!
WOW!!!!!!!!! 5 stars!
I know a lot of people (myself included) have been anticipating something like this. Thanks so much for being the first to do it! Can't wait to give it a try. Cheers.
I really would love to use this plugin, but always I want to create a new playlist with it it appears: No source artists. Play or selected a track to create a playlist of similar songs from your library.
Why does this happen?
@abo: Seb is referring to the Nightly Tester Tools add-on.
Using Songbird 1.1.1b1, Ubuntu 8.10, Recommended Playlists 0.5.
The Recommended Songs button does not appear at all, even when a track is playing.
I would recommend coming up with a new icon for the button as well, to distance yourself from Apple's Genius (which is pretty bad anyway, and serves a slightly different function), and because this feature doesn't really have anything to do with the atom (?).
Anyway thanks again for developing this, looking forward to getting to use it in 1.1. :)
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ADD-ON! When Genious appeared for iTunes, I thought "this must be on SB soon". I was wrong... this is BETTER, no one spies my computer to recommend me the songs, they just appear :D
Congratulations and thanks for this add, 5 stars!
PS: I agree with topdownjimmy, it could be nice to use a different icon than iTunes' one.
I actually think you should keep the icon, and put it as your icon image for the add-on... at least for now... So people can associate to it, so that they know what it is... a.k.a. more downloads ;)
.. then later on down the road once you have a lots of installs, then you could change it... but i like the atom, so i think you should keep it... ;)
Seriously good stuff, now I actually have no reason to ever want itunes again. My only wish is that it could use a larger selection for creating playlists instead of many playlists devoted to only maybe 5 artists.
But seriously good stuff.
I suppose that a new icon would fit better for songbird, but what to use? At the moment then the atom on is fitting in very nicely with my background ;)
Thanks! Great work. Any plans to use last.fm's similar track function as well as the similar artist one?
And just a tip - toolbar buttons based on the older Developer Tools Create Extension tool will break in Songbird 1.1. You need to move the _insertToolbarButton code into the OnFirstLoad function. Check out http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15262 .
Thanks for the update codeine, working now in 1.1.1b2 (Ubuntu 8.10).
One suggestion is that you give the option to limit results to a specified number of artists or albums, rather than tracks. I like to listen to full albums, so even limiting the results to the maximum of 200 tracks (or any fixed number of tracks, in theory) can leave some incomplete albums in the playlist.
(re: the icon — maybe something like a galaxy? Just a thought.)
Ooo you should have a koshi-style bird for the icon, and have the 'fart' appear on hover.
:D
hope to see it updated for 1.1.1b2 soon. =)
Don't know if I am overlooking it, but, currently, the way this is working for me, is.. if I make a playlist with this addon, I then have to manually create a new playlist with the songs it generated in the 'recommended songs'. However, a duplicate of those songs remain in 'recommended Songs', unless I go there and remove them.
Is it possible to create a custom-named playlist at the moment when generating the recommended songs? The goal would be to give one the opportunity to make multiple playlists using this program, without having the duplicate list in said 'recommended songs'.
Hey this is an awesome add-on... Really
Thanks for the "little" update ;)
Somehow, i am not able to use it.. I am not seeing the icon anymore.. or any other way to create a list. I am using Beta 3.
Great add-on!
I've got a small request: Would it be possible to show the button next to the "create new playlist" button (bottom left) or next to the shuffle/repeat buttons? I feel that it's a little misplaced next to the browser and media views controls. Also, I'm a Mac user and like to have the search bar on the very top right of the window... :)
Update for 1.1 please ;)
Just downloaded and installed SB 1.1 and then grabbed this add-on from within SB. It seemed to install fine, but how does it work?
I really really love this add-on. Thanks!
One suggestion, though: if possible, please allow the user that right clicks a song to have an option to create a recommended playlist. I think that this would make the add-on a whole more easy to use.
Thanks again!
This is such a sexy add-on! It finds good music for me that I never even knew that I had! ^,^
This is an awesome add-on! :-)
... I'd like to second the suggestion by deOmega above... It would be nice to have an option to automatically, or not, start playing the generated playlist. Sometimes I might like to see what is suggested for future use, but I might not want to start playing right away, so an option in the preferences would be really sweet.
Thanks for this!
I was using MusicIP in Winamp under Wine to do the same thing, i have a big library, and dont like doing playlists on my own.
Love this plugin!!!!
This is a great add-on! If I may make one small suggestion - at the moment it selects 25 tracks and when it's played them, that's it... you have to start again... could you add a "AutoContinue" function? Say if it gets to the last track, automatically run the process again, ideally excluding the 25 tracks it's already played... I'd never have to think again :-)
Brilliant work!
omg i love you! I've been looking for a player with this function forever
Your addon is what makes songbird a killer application. It works much better than any frequency-based algorithm. Thank you a lot!!
@WhatChrisLikes
On the top right, next to the search bar is a new button. When you are playing a song, click it and see what happens ;)
Just commenting to say thanks for this great extension. I notice you can set playlist length in the options. It would be cool if right clicking on the recommend button gave a context menu of length options, in case I want a shorter or longer playlist for just one creation. Thanks again!
Awesome, works very well, love it :)
Hey, great AddOn! Thank you!
Just one thing: Could you please add support for this extension:
http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/1286
I tagged my live Albums with it so that they are skipped when shuffle is turned on.
My suggestion for your AddOn is that songs with "Skip on Shuffle = 1" don't get into the recommended Playlist.
It's very annoying to listen to a single live track between studio tracks.
This addon interrupts the playback of the current song for a second while it generates the playlist. Is it possible to run the addon calculation in a separate thread so that this doesn't happen?
It's apparently not compatible with 1.1.2
please update this plugin for 1.1.2
Thank you for such useful plugin ! Waiting for update 1.1.2
I haven't updated to 1.1.2 yet, because I no longer can use SB without your add-on. Please update it!
Hey hey what about update 1.1.2? :)
Hi...
Great addon! However I want to report a problem. When the player finishes playing the recomended list, songbird crushes reporting (infinitely) an error reporting some url missing (for continuing playing I guess). Still thank you very much cause the addon is great. I'd like to know if someone is having the same trouble.

Great start, but I'd like to second a few of the previous requests and some of my own.
-Support of skip on shuffle addon (birdip suggestion)
-Option to weight based on Ratings and/or play count
-Create playlist from only songs in the playlist that the song is in
-Auto refill/continue
-not interrupt current playing song when generating playlist
I should not have upgraded it to 1.1.2 yet because I can't do without this plugin...
This is the coolest plug-in. Unfortunately, I am now running 1.1.2. Will there be an update?
I've found that, until the developer issues an update, you can do the following to get this working again: (At least on Ubuntu 9.04)
Download the newest version of Recommended Playlists from a web browser (Not Songbird)
Save it somewhere.
Open the .xpi with an archive manager (Non-Ubuntu users may need to find a program to do this. Start at 7zip)
Find the file named "Install.rdf" and open it in your favorite text editor.
Find "<em:maxversion>1.1.1</em:maxversion>" and change the 1.1.1 part to 1.2.0
Save.
Now, install the now modified addon in Songbird and Enjoy!
I hope that helps.
@LuckeJoe13,
Thank you. I bumped the version on Windows Vista as well and it works fine.
Can you update for 1.1.2 please ?
Thanks you
Awesome, LuckyJoe's fix worked like a charm on WinXP as well.
See here http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/391407/recommended-playlists-0.5.1.1.xpi for a working copy of the workaround of LuckyJoe13
Thank you "masterdam79," worked perfectly!
There is an addon that may replace this, since this one seems to have halted development:
i will be done with my improved version of this addon in a few days.
Great news authorblues! Very much looking forward to it.
Jeeez, 3 months it has been?? authorblues, need help?
Sorry authorblues, didn't see your awesome Virtuoso pluginthere yet, great work!
can the description be updated to indicate that Virtuoso is an updated version of this?
Support and help here is pretty cool! Love it!
Chiming in to beg for an update that works with 1.2 1.2 has an EQ, which I need to make some subtle adjustments. Now that I'm done being selfish, allow me to say that I absolutely adore this add-on. I was using local.fm until I switched to Win7. But your plug is fast and easy, unlike local.fm.
oopss...forgot to mention that when this add-on and a version with an EQ can live together, I will never use another media player!
please, update for Songbird 1.4.1!!
I can't live without this fantastic addon!
fantastic addon! THANK YOU
Nice to see your back codeine! Thank you for the update!
And that is really awesome how you skinned Gonzo 2 out of the box, thats never been done before! Thank you!!
Great!!!
Great add-on, thanks a lot. - One small problem though: it seems to be messing with the location bar text. If installed, the add-on's homepage (http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/1448) is displayed in url bar at all times (regardless of url of the site you're currently viewing). Tried it on new profile, same problem.
Still a great add-on.
I have exactly the same problem as verso url bar stuck with http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/1448
Apart from that it's great to see this addon back!
Glad you're back!!! Didn't like Virtuoso..
Love it =]
for some reason my smarty pants stopped working, so i went hunting & found this little beauty!!
it is absolute genius =] lol
Unfortunately Ive had to downgrade Songbird back to ver 1.2.1 as the new edition no longer supported my ipod.
I dont suppose you ever managed to work on a compatible release for that version at all did you?? i miss it already!
The Problem with the browser adress bar / Browser URL still exists
Songbird 1.4.3
Recommended Playlists 0.5.3.1
OS WIN XP SP3
It always shows this:
http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addons?category=developer-tools
see also this GetSatisfaction topic
So happy for the upgrade.. this is simply worth its weight. Thank you codeine
fantastic plugin - thank you very much.
is there anyway to save the current recommended playlist as another playlist for future use? possibly for when I'm offline or something and can't generate a new playlist
also - the multiple song/genre spanning selection is an amazing upgrade from what genius offered - but it seems a bit fickle sometimes. almost as though it weights the last selected song a little too high in the resultant playlist
overall great plugin though
A really sweet addon. Thanks!
Just what I was looking for. Thanks a million.
abo
Can i have a version for 1.1.1b1? =)
