Adds a W3C geolocation API, so webpages can request your position.
Geode is a new feature developed by Mozilla Labs in order to bring W3C geolocation API into Firefox and Fennec.
A complete description of Geode is here : http://labs.mozilla.com/2008/10/introducing-geode/
This is the Songbird Port.
It should work (and bug) exactly the same.
This version is also compatible with Firefox, but the update URL was removed (Songbird Add-ons Policy).
Have fun.
Now compatible with Songbird 1.0

its good & all but isnt this a step backward in privacy
Not really, the final user has the control over it.
He's the one who allows the extension to work or not.
;)
MOZILLA IS WATCHING YOU ^^
This addon is literally 1337. Look at the URL. Awesome. It's too bad this only works on certain phones and stuff though. I wish you could manually specify your location for stuff like your home address, because relying on GPS sensors...it's kinda dumb. Good idea, but I wish Mozilla Labs would finish some of their better projects rather than adding random features that they never finish.
@bzoomer16 a first functional version of the geolocation API is going to be in integrated in the next version of Gecko, so it's gonna be available on Firefox 3.1 and future versions of Songbird if they upgrade to the next Gecko version.
Geode is just a prototype extension to show what could be possible and also to prepare developers to these possibilities :)
It doesn't rely on GPS sensors, but on WIFI Mapping.
This means it only works when your WIFI is known by the Skyhook component used by Geode...
I hope Mozilla will find a better way to localize people :) They are working on it ;)
