Kurgen
Its not working :(
This will focus on a track in the playlist when switching or playing tracks, if the playlist is not visible it will not switch to the playlist but will still focus the track.
Some users reported issues with getting FocusTrack to work when Now Playing List is installed.
Support for 1.4 beta trunk, removed non-functioning options button.
Its not working :(
@Kurgen Hmm, well I have only tested it on the filter playlist. If you goto about:config and set songbird.focustrack.debug to true then you can see messages in the Error Console under messages.
I tried it on the filter pane too.
I'll do as you say and inform you asap
I get a lot of errors like this.
Error: [Exception... Hope it helps.
Hi,
could you please add the ability to fucus the track in "Now Playling List" if this addon is installed?
Also it would be useful to make it the other way - start playing a focused song after the current one finishes.
Is it meant to switch from the tab I'm browsing in back to the library just to show which track it just focused on? Coz that's what it did for me.
Every time the song changes I get switched back to the library from whatever tab I'm in (as long as I'm still in Songbird, haven't been switched from another application over to Songbird).
It's not working for me too. Maybe you need to test your add-ons on Windows before releasing them ?
doesn't works
Not working for me either. Here's my error console message:
Error: [Exception... "'JavaScript component does not have a method named: "onViewChange"' when calling method: [sbIPlaylistPlaybackListener::onViewChange]" nsresult: "0x80570030 (NS_ERROR_XPC_JSOBJECT_HAS_NO_FUNCTION_NAMED)" location: "JS frame :: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Songbird/components/sbPlaylistPlayback.js :: anonymous :: line 1068" data: no]

this new update works fantastically for me! FocusTrack + MediaFlow = beautiful goodness!
It works great now with the most recent update. Thanks for the much needed extension. Hopefully this feature gets merged into trunk before release.
Thanks! Works great! This add-on is much appreciated.
does this addon focus on the track in the library playlist instead of a playlist manually created?
Works great with MediaFlow (http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addons/238)
This works great and should be listed under-have Songbird Add-ons.
Very nice addon. Just what I was looking for... wonder why the Songbird crew havent integrated this feature. :S
Anyways... good job!
Thanks!
@Siggaard - Actually I am part of the Songbird crew :)
This addon doesn't work with Songbird 1.0.0rc1, could you please update it?
An update to this add-on would be great. Or maybe a core implementation?
Most music players out there either focus the track that's being played, or offer a way to do it. I wish songbird could do something like this. :)
Ok, my bad, Songbird does enable you to go to the currently played track. You have to click the track name displayed in the player part.
awesome
Now works in 1.0 RC2, which is great. It works fine, but as with the “focus current track” functionnality (clicking the track name in the player part) the focused track is displayed either at the top or at the bottom of the list. Using one of these options every time would be great. Predictability is an important part of an interface's usability.
I would go with the focused track in the middle of the viewport, or at the top with maybe a few tracks shown above it for context. But anything is ok as long as it's predictable.
@florentv Well that is up to the media view, since each media view will highlight differently :).
hey,
I was directed here by djb: thanks so much! Exactly what I was looking for, I strongly believe this should be a standard add-on.
One minor improvement (IMHO): Instead of focusing the track to the bottom of the filter pane, focus it to the middle. Haha, I minor nitpick, but it would add just that much more.
Thanks again!
This is an add-on provides a feature that should be included by default. Good job.
THANK YOU!
Can you update this to work with the 1.1.0 pre versions? (the nightly builds). Songbird won't let me install it right now (on build 911)
iTunes does this by default..
This will focus on a track in the playlist when switching or playing tracks, if the playlist is not visible it will not switch to the playlist but will still focus the track.
but I can see why it is debatable to make it a built in standard feature in Songbird.. : )
Hey Man.
I thank u so much for that.
Greetz
Momo
Hi, I have Songbird version 1.1.0pre, Build 929 and this component is not installable for me? Why? I see at the top "Updated to 1.1.0pre version."
Works well! Thanks. ;)
Nice icon. :) Very nice/functional update.
For the next version could the ability to turn the statusbar icon on/off be added - I love the addon but as I want it on all the time that just clutters my statusbar.
Keep up the good work.
Some ideas...
First, have the song be centered when it is playing, instead of jumping to the top or bottom all the time. Have it like winamp, where it will stay centered unless the song plays at the top or bottom where it will then focus there.
Second, there is no second, this works great, except for that damn missing feature.
I just posted this in the now playing list ideas thread in get satisfaction, but all add it here as well. I think it would also be cool if the now playing list had album artwork next to the tracks so you could visually see what tracks are in the list. It could look almost identical to this: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/1331 (the lastfmSidebar addon). Tracks would take up more room, but I never have too many tracks queued up in the list anyway, so I think it would work fine.
It won't install in 1.1.1b1 because the install.rdf is missing a character (I'm guessing the beta version name got changed). If you want to install it, follow the following:
1) Download focustrack-1.1.0.xpi
2) Download and install 7-zip if you haven't already (xpi files are effectively zipped).
3) Open focustrack-1.1.0.xpi using 7-zip
4) Find and extract install.rdf
5) edit it, and change the value for em:maxversion from 1.1.1b to 1.1.1b1
6) Put the modified install.rdf back into the xpi file (with 7-zip, you can just add it back in).
7) The modified focustrack-1.1..xpi should now install into Songbird 1.1.0b1
I did the above and it appears to be working fine.
works perfect with songbird 1.1 beta 2 and 3
(enabled with NightlyTesterTools)
thank you very much for this add-on, it's on of the best add-ons for songbird, cause songbird lacks this basic feature
Gantry, Congrats on the add-on adoption ;)
Now can you make it compatible with 1.1.1 (and 1.2.0a)
Doesn't work for me on Songbird 1.1 under Windows XP.I can save the changes in the options of this add-on... What's the problem???
Thanks for adopting this one Gantry. It's simple but essential! All the best.
Great addon that I really think should've been a feature from the start, but there's one thing keeping it from being the perfect simple addon: track centering. That is, centering the playing track in the middle of the playlist view, rather than having it at the top or bottom.
Is this possible, and more importantly, would it be easy to implement? I'd be really grateful for such an option. :)
Nice! Love it. Would be cool to vertical center the focused track. Because sometimes it's at the top of the list and sometimes at the bottom.
Strange... I had the same issue as reported by Brath. Looks like if you switch feathers, it stops working, until you restart songbird.
Otherwise, cool addon, thanks alot!
This just doesn't seem to work for me.. I'm under Linux (Ubuntu) with v1.1.1 of Songbird. Doesn't seem to focus the track in any view.
Great Add on,
it was driving me next that my main screen wasn't automatically switching to the current song. This fixed it no prob.
Love this add-on, signed up just to rate it :-)
It does not work... Running 1.1.1 with mediaflow. It seems it does not remember the settings...
I think it might be songsnarl that's causing the problem - I had it working yesterday with mediaflow, but today I install songsnarl because I wanted to have song notifications when minimised... and now focus track isn't working anymore :-(
I have the same problem like Coeluh (I use Divided Tag Cloud).
Songbird 1.1.1, Build 1018 (20090309144748)
Windows XP MCE Version 2002 (SP3)
Same problem
Songbird 1.1.1
Ubuntu 8.10
It used to work for great for me, but it suddenly died and never focuses on the current track anymore. THe "eye" icon is still turned on, but it does nothing..
I think it happened when I installed another addon (NotifyMe), reinstalling the addon did not work, neither did disabling the other addon. I hope you can fix it, it seems really silly that this is not a default feature yet...
Oh, I'm sorry, the other addon is not NotifyMe, but Song Notifier.
..and I am using Songbird 1.1.1
I had it all working fine until I upgraded MediaFlow today... is there something in the sequence in which addons work that is causing your addon to stop working? I thought it was a great addon, hope you can fix it.
Works just fine for me.
Using Songbird V.1.1.1, Build 1018.
Thanks for a really great plugin!
Doesn't work for me either, using 1.1.1
It used to work before but since I upgraded to 1.1.1 it seems no longer working. The eye icon is on but it just doesn't do anything at all.
Other add-ons that I use: MediaFlow, MinimizeToTray Revived, Aero Bird
FocusTrack 1.2.2 stopped working for me in Songbird 1.1.1. But then I disabled Last Track Resume 1.0.2.2 and its now working again!
this should definitely a core feature of songbird.
I love using this with Media Flow view. My only gripe is that the options don’t work. If I uncheck the option for "Display Focus Icon in Statusbar” the eye icon is still there staring at me. Seems that whatever settings I put in last time, when I bring up the options the next time, both options are unchecked. (I’m on a Vista machine running SB 1.1.1) Anyway, I love the functionality. Thanks for taking this over, Gantry.
Thanks @ nairbdog. Had the same problem with Focus Track and Last Track Resume.
It doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. Started just last week. The eye is still turned on, I've made sure I gone to the add-on options and checked that is is activated, etc. Anyone else having this problem?? This is my favorite/most helpful add-on for songbird!! I would hate to lose it!!!!!
@dancelikedavid:
same problem here! since the last update this addon doesnt work anymore.
I have the same problem since 1.1.2
agg. this is so sad! Is there a fix for this?
It's weird b/c it was still working for me after the newest update. It was only mid-last week that it went away (while I had song bird open). I was resizing my columns, and when I started a new track, that's when I no longer saw the "focus track" icon thing highlighting the song! :(
I have windows XP SP3, Songbird 1.1.2, Build 1042 (20090331142126) and the addons I have installed are:
Album View 0.3.1
AlbumArtPreferences 1.0.1.0
Customize Filter Pane 0.2.2
directory browser 0.5.3
Discogs Fetcher 1.6
DOM Inspector 2.0.0
Focus Track 1.2.2
JavaScript Debugger 0.9.87.4
LyricMaster 1.6.1.2
Media Flow 3.0
MinimizeToTray revived (MinTrayR) 0.3.7
Now Playing List 1.1
The Exorcist 0.1.4
YAB 1.0.2.1
Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more information.
Ok after further testing I have found that you can get focus to work by clicking on the Songname next to the player controls, from then on it will focus the playing track.
Had the same problem but after uninstalling Now Playing List it started working again.
The same here. After disabling Now playing list, focusTrack worked again.
Ahh!! yes!! You guys are awesome, that was driving me crazy. The 'Now Playing List' addon was the evil culprit!! I just deactivated it & restarted Songbird. You don't need to completely uninstall it (unless you want to of course) for FocusTrack to work again. Sweet. This made my day!! :)
Yep, Now Playing List seems to be the problem. And that sucks because both FocusTrack and Now Playing are two essential add-ons to me. I hope they can coexist peacefully in the future. Also (even if it not seems to have any practical impact) when I'm bringing up the preferences for FocusTrack both boxes are unchecked and when I check them and close the window they are still unchecked when I open it again. I'm using Mac OS X Leopard.
Most of the times it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
Love this little add-on. Can't survive without this feature. Thank you
Love this addon but still does not seem to work when using now playing and mediaflow addons..for example if I want to play just one artist...songbird goes now playing list and then refuses to focus on the album playing.
Gantry,
The new bug report was filed against Focus Track in Bugzilla:
http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16808
Can you please follow up on that?
Thanks.
this doenst work for me anymore :( it was useful
I dont want to blame this add on because I really like it, love it actually, but I had to disable it, I dunno if this was the reason but suddenly everything crash, keyboard, mouse, songbird, everything.
I am running ubuntu 9.04 and songbird 1.2
please let me know if there is something I can do
I can't believe this is not included by default!
I love this add-on, but it would be great if it had one thing. If instead of focusing on the track at the bottom or top of a large playlist, make the track in the middle of the screen.
not working for me since long time .. options only change able through about:config .. focusing doesnt happen .. i wonder why this is a seperate addon :-)
Working great on my Macbook (latest Leopard) and Windows PCs (Vista 64)!
I love this Addon :-) Meets most of my expectations :-)
Two things to improve:
1. When Songbird is closed and I double-click a song (mp3) in Windows Explorer, Songbird opens, plays the song, that song is focussed, but when this song is finished and Songbird moves to the next song - the next song is not focussed any more :-(
2. If I open a song directly from the Songbird Mediathek, then that song is initially focussed as expected. But if I then click e. g. on shoutcast or any playlist WITHOUT opening a new song/stream there, and then go back to the mediathek, the currently played song is not focussed any more.
Very good,
Please by default in songbird.
Doesn't work if the Addon "Now Playing" is enabled :-(
Would also be great if Focus Track would work within the "Now Playing List" Pane (Addon Now Playing List).
Wish it worked with NPL!
I installed this great plug in and it works perfectly, works great with MediaFlow plug in also.
Hi Gantry,
A problem has been reported with Focus Track not working properly with my add-on Sleeptimer .
For the next of Sleeptimer I've wrapped it in an anonymous function but your Focus Track status bar icon still disappears (although Focus Track sometimes continues to focus on the playing track, unless disabled.)
I think the problem may be some interaction with mediacore/data remote observers.
In any case, the Focus Track preferences are not updating, as in the bug noted above.
Are you still intending to continue work on Focus Track?
Sorry, somehow I missed out on your latest version. I'll retest with that!
Should be incorporated as a default functionality.
Why does it "Bring Songbird To Front" when enabled. When Songbird is minimized it should not bring it to front. Is there a way to add this option? Because it gets annoying each time a song changes songbird comes up while you are in the middle of doing something else
FocusTrack does not seem to work in the following environment:
Songbird 1.4.3, Build 1438 (20091223030116)
OS X 1.5.8
It's not working anymore!
Ok, with Now Playing List DISABLED it is working.
With NPL ENABLED nothing happens...
really sad, because I use NPL like ... all the time???
Would love an Add on (This Add On) to focus on what i want...
media view/playlist or NPL (maybe a right-click menu when clicking on "the eye" button from this AddOn. left: enable/disable, rightclick: choose focus in media view and/or focus in Now Playing List)
Version: Songbird 1.4.3, Build 1438
XP SP3
Hi there!
Exactly the functionality I was looking for.
Unfortunately, I found out that this addon is incompatible with "last track resume".
Kind regards, mtness.
ok. i haven't seen this issue anywhere. this works exactly how it should; the track gets focused and the album art is shown in the "now selected" window. Except when I'm browsing the internet in another tab. Which is exactly when i need it. i have to be on the playlist tab for the "now selected" album art to show up. if i'm browsing my library or browsing the web, it doesn't work.
thanks.
whoops. nevermind. i just saw the ability to change the "now selected" to "now playing". works. thanks.
Kurgen
Whoa!
Thank you SO MUCH Stevo. Testing it right now.
