Thanks a lot! But playing albums doesn't work for me, yet. Doubleclick just starts playing the unfiltered playlist.

Adds a media view that lists your albums with covers in the top. This is only beta right now, currently displays covers and allows selection/playing of an album.
Version bumped to Songbird 1.1.*
Thanks a lot! But playing albums doesn't work for me, yet. Doubleclick just starts playing the unfiltered playlist.
Ups, sorry, it works! A restart did it. Don't know why I had problems on the first try. *thumbs up*!
Super cool!
nice!!
Hi stevo, sorry, i've got the same problem again: sometimes just a doubleclick doesn't start the album, but starts playing the current playlist (which is all music). It seems to me, that sometimes a doubleclick just don't filter for the album... i didn't discovered a pattern in this, yet...
Sorry stevo, selection is still not work for me. Same problem again: doubleclick does not play the album, just starts playing the current list.
When doubleclicking, i got the following 5 errors, perhaps that would help you :-/

I am SO glad someone is doing this. This is a fabulous addition to SB.
One bug I can spot so far:
If you are already playing, say, the 5th track in a playlist and you double click on a new album, the new playlist appears and begins to play the 5th track of that new album, rather than the 1st. You need to reset the playing track to the first one in the new list following a double click.
And some suggestions for the future:
What do other people think?
It doesn't show all the albums, why?
PS: Great Addon
Hi !
Supernice...is there some way of looking for the covers or any info´s about tracks, albuns, singeers etc ?
Any way our Songbirds is a fabulous player !!!
DaCosta
hi stevo,
i like nickzeff's idea of being able to sort in more than one way, not just alphabetically by album.
i have a problem with certain albums not appearing at all in this view, that other views have no problem showing. i don't just mean the art- i mean the album itself doesn't show up at all. (go to filter view, for example, it's there, back to this view, nothing.) the one i can't fix at all is one i compiled myself from two separate albums; although another album a friend compiled is completely mixed, and it shows up fine.
finally, the art disappears regularly; i'm constantly reloading it in the metadata, even when no changes have been made to the album.
by far this is my favorite view, hope these bugs are tweakable. thank you!
sadly, whoever created this add-on is not visiting this page at all anymore. so don't bother posting questions, guys: it seems to only serve as a library now. there is no help. so much for updates. :(
incredibly disappointing.... hopefully songbird is not going the way of the dodo?
@nicolaluna Actualy I am watching these comments, and will be working on this add on as soon as I have a good chunk of my Album List add on completed. They are somewhat related for the backend. I have been watching the comments and think they are some great ideas. I also work on the Songbird Core and since we have been pushing for version 1.0 I have a great deal on my plate at this point :).
Thanks all for your comments and I promise to get back on this add on as soon as I can :).
Great update! Finally working with 1.0 and looking great! I hope the playlist will come back soon...
PS: The mouse-over ("Play") and the scrolling is a little bit inert.
Thank you. This is exactly what I needed. Here are my suggestions/problems though, if you would please read them:
1) Album art is too distorted from being re-sized to a smaller size
2) Albums should spread out evenly depending on the the size of the window (ie. adapt/center to window size)
3) You should be able to click the album art to bring up that album in a normal list view so that we can pick the song to play (à la iTunes).
If those three things were fixed, this would be perfect for me.
Thanks, great work.
Hey, Stevo. I love the potential with this! My big complaint right now is that it seems to be interfering with the settings for the filter pane view (or maybe it’s the settings with your change filters add-on, which I have installed). Every time I select the album view, it resets the filter pane view to display the “album” category only. Each subsequent time I select the album view, it adds another filter pane pre-set to the “album” category. I’m definitely looking forward to using this once the bugs are worked out.
I have the same Problems as mark32! I noticed that for all your Media-Views since 0.7. For me, sometimes it adds an filter-pane, sometimes it kills one or two. Sometimes the switch works perfect, but most times not.
Great add-on, thanks !
Could it be possible to sort the list by artist ?
Hi - got a bit of an issue - I can see the album covers list just fine, but no list of tracks underneath as an the screenshot - am I doing something wrong? or being thick?
Hi,
I know some still mentioned, but just to keep in mind please add a playlist under the covers. :)
Also it would be great if I could rightklick on an cover to add a hole album on my playlist.
But nethereless a good plugin with potential for a great plugin :)
And thanks for all your work.
Much like fingers two posts above above me, I'm not getting the track listing under the album under the album when I select it.
@tturner, fingers: it's always a good idea to take a look at the release notes:
"1. Removed playlist from below albums, this will be replaced in the future with a better system." Cheers! :-)
@atreiu:
Thanks for pointing that out but I always read release notes. What I took from "Removed playlist from below albums" to mean was that all the albums were listed then playlists such as "highest rated," "most played," etc were given tiles and included in album view after the albums. Maybe it should read "Removed the tracklisting from beneath selected album."
@tturner yes but in our system it is called a playlist (the element is actually sb-playlist :) ). Don't worry though it will return as an option. :).
Hi, first like others already said, this is a great addon and by far the media view i prefer.
Two things though :
1. Bug, when two albums with same name of different artists, these are gathered into one. E.g. "Scorpions - Best Of and Red Hot Chili Peppers - Best Of" turn into only one cover Best Of - Various Artists ... Not so good ...
2. Could it be possible to add more options on cover like for example edit metadata (like in cover flow view) to for instance edit cover art for all files of album ?
Thanks in advance ! And congrats for Songbird 1.0 since you're part of it.
Best regards.
Thanks for developing this! It's an awesome add-on, even in this beta version.
Thank for the great job already done.
I would like to sort albums by the year tag instead of alphabetically.
This would be nice:
1. because some musician released a series of similar
albums during a view years that are not alphabetically next to each other e.g. Bowie, Dylan.
2 If you make a genre play list and and look a the albums development in the genre would become apparent and similar sounding albums would again be grouped e.g. Hip-Hop, Hardcore, Drum & Bass.............
Hello, stevo
and thank you for the great and really useful stuff!
But it seems I found a problem when operating with the "Album View".
Please, take a look at the bug http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14803 I failed in the Songbird's Bugzilla. I'm not sure if it is related directly to the "Album View" add-on or to the more common stuff, so forgive me if I was wrong.
Anyway you've done a good job and I wish you to proceed with even better stuff in the future!
Best regards,
sergeym
Hello stevo
I've posted a request for a new extension on getsatisfaction (but often requests get flooded by newer requests and sometimes are lost forever. so here I am with it here!). It is related to your extension in a way, as it deals with management of library by albums.
Here is it and sorry for this cross posting.
Thanks
Olivier
I'm brand new to Songbird, just finished installing it. I liked being able to see albums in iTunes (but having a big juicy hate for iTunes, yep). I installed your app & restarted SB, but not seeing anything in album view.
I have not synced with my iPod yet (120 gig classic), so maybe I'm misunderstanding this app. Is it able to view albums in my Library as well as on the iPod, or one or the other?
Sorry for such a newbie question but hey...
Stevo, this is for you : http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15012
hello. i'm a songbird beginner.
album view ist very nice, but is it possible to sort by artist?
thanks, blubegg
(sorry for my bad english)
Can this please be updated to use with the new version?
I would like to see this for 1.1.1 as well.
Hello
Moshy and I have taken Album View of the hands of Stevo. We are currently working on it as much as we can. We will get something out for 1.1.1+ whether it is the old version or something we have worked on.
Thank you so much for the update! It’s great to have this view back.
To rehash a couple old requests, sorting by artist would be appreciated, as would the return of the sb-playlist below the album art grid. Thanks!
+1 for getting the playlist back
moshy: you could make it load more 'asynchonously' if you included yields in the getAlbums method(or what it calls, I can't remember). Using the pseudo thread doesn't really do anything at all. It is supposed to use generators and do a little at a time, but this doesn't happen. You can read more about generators and yield at https://developer.mozilla.org/en/New_in_javascript_1.7
@mark32, others: I have read a lot of the comments for the extension and I will, sometime soon, gather all of those up and put them in our bug/feature tracker to be worked on.
Thanks,
MK Development(I'm just kidding, MK Development doesn't really exist)
I forgot to mention: Don't expect 0.3.1 to work any different than 0.3.0. The only change made was to set the version numbers for Songbird such that the extension works with newer versions of Songbird.
How did you bring up the list on the bottom like in the screenshot?
Mine only shows the albums and when I click play they just start from the first song.
Also is there a way to sort the albums by Artist rather then by Album title?
hi just some constructive feedback (sorry if i have repeated above)
- when in album view, and performing a search using the songbird search, it doesn't work.
- when in album view, and doing a 'get album art', album art does not refresh until the view is exited and entered again.
thanks for this plugin... i had been waiting for AAM to be fixed but now there is no need.
I'm v. happy this add on just froze up my whole system when I was using windows vista but on Ubuntu Linux, though it took quite a while to load up, it seems to be working fine now.
Only problem is that Songbird still doesn't support displaying album art for m4a files, any one any idea when this will happen? I asked on Get Satisfaction but no one answered :-(
p.s. it would be great if we could filter the albums displayed, by genre, artist or whatever.
Your extension leaks. At least one of the problems is from not removing the media core listener. It's possible there are other listener issues. You should remove it in your onUnload method.
Just add:
this._mediacoreManager.removeListener(this);
to the onUnload method in media-page.js.
I love this soooooooo much! takes me back to the good old days when I used to flip through my Dad's cedar chest full of vinyl....
Just one thing.... it takes FOREVER to load. I have a rather large audio collection. Could you possibly create some type of cache system to improve load time? If not for the first start up on opening songbird, then for switching between media views? I'd like to move back and forth between the filter pane and the album view without waiting.
Anyway.. thank you very much. I am not experiencing any issues with functionality other than loading time.
You made songbird that much more fun! Good work.
If it could give a list of genres in an album view (and let us assign specific artwork to each choice of genre) before zooming in on all the albums of that genre it would be absolutely wonderful.
Just installed this. Looks great but how do you get the list Pane on the bottom like the Screen Shot????
This add-on works great, but it seems to be sorting primarily by "Contributing Artist" rather than "Album Artist".
It would also be nice to be able to change the primary sort (group by) field to genre or year.
Thanks.
Please, make this available for songbird 1.5.0! That's the version of songbird I'm using right now, and I was sad when I noticed I couldn't install AlbumView plugin. Thanks!
This is the closest thing ive seen to the kind of album veiw ive wanted in songbird! A tad slow, but great work so far, please update!!
@ Razorhanny & ethanjim
Download the ".xpi" file on your desktop.
Extract it.
Edit the file "install.rdf"
Change the line 17 : "<em:maxversion>1.1.*</em:maxversion>" to "<em:maxversion>1.5.*</em:maxversion>"
Save it
Replace this file in the ".xpi" file.
Install the xpi file in Songbird.
Done and works ;)
cool stuff
Go ahead moshy! Do a bump! :)

Man...This was really needed. Thank you! Looks like the egg is REALLY going to hatch!
