Yeah. High praise for the style of this nifty little media view.
But being able to play songs from it is a must!!

Add that and you got an eye-candy system seller on your hands ;-)

Could you use feathers-defaults for background-color, column-header (background-image) and rating-image?
Then it would work with all feathers, even the dark-ones ;-)

Excellent addon as usual. I know u said it is in very early beta, but just a quick feedback, since you said that selecting a song allows it to play... it does not work for me.

When I double click on any track in that view, random songs would play with their respective album art showing up in the left bottom pane. Actually, I cannot get any song I select in that view to play.

Library is783songs, Windows Vista32 bit

yeah same here. The wrong songs play -- but it's not random as the same wrong song plays each time. Also, scrolling is not really working. It takes about 5 seconds before a command to scroll up or down actually happens.

Hey guys, don't you know what "very alpha" means? It means that it's not really usable, yet! Steve explained that. I'm sure he knows, that there are problems. Just be patient. (I know that hard, with such a great looking add-on with even greater ambitions =)

I posted to give him feedback, just in case, as he indicated that the specific feature should be working. I also realize it is in alpha (not Beta), so MANY issues are expected, and not expecting him to resolve any overnight. He may be aware... but then again, he may not,so why not give him feedback when possible?

why does the addons is very slow under linux~?

This add on runs very slow on Vista with SongBird 0.7. trying to select an album to play is almost painful.

For that ask why this is slow:It's not ready for everyday use. Read the description before posting. lol.

 An update would be great though. I know it must be tiring to hear people asking for updates, but this is the most anticipated add-on for me.

Another possible suggestion. When the song switches would it be possible to have the view in the main library window switch also to highlight that song. Essentially the same function as just clicking the song in the play panel but automatically instead.

anyhow (i knoooowww... it's only beta), 2 things not working to well yet:

1) scolling is strange
2) cant sort my songs by clicking on the artist/album/song etc tab.

i'm really hoping on soon updates - the view of your plugin is the ONLY thing in songbird i missed about itunes (damn itunes!) - thank you so much ! :)

Would it be possible to make two columns, one column (i.e. left) would contain artist list, second would contain this album list only for selected album.

Love the concept for sorting, much more intuitive than default view. Like other users, scrolling is odd, sometimes it picks albums, other times it scrolls the page as expected. Would loooooove if you added (at least an option) to group all songs with no album info by artist. Basically my problem is I have a lot of instrumentals and random songs not on albums and it creates an album for each one! Makes this almost unfunctional. Awesome concept, a little more polishing and it'll be perfect.

once you get the vertical scrolling issue worked out...this will be great. until then, i'll have to stick to the normal views. it seems almost like you are making the vertical scrolling more complicated than it has to be. don't worry about scrolling of the individual album, just make it a solid page that scrolls. ~thanks!

This will a EXACTLY what Songbird needs once you get it fixed so that the scroll bar doesnt get hidden behind the "lyrics plugin" and get it so it scrolls smoother then I will use SongBird all the time. Until then I might look into FooBar2000 again.... :(

This would be great if it had vertical scrolling and not those ugly lines. And some margin. And, and, and. Damn it.

Waiting for an update to work with songbird 1.0. I forced the latest package to install and it loads but much of the functionality is broken.

i know some smart and dedicated people that would rip their brains out before giving up.lol. So i could just ask then to work on this with me and get something up. As you can see (3 skins, 0 extensions), coding is way to boring for me. I was good at it and stuff, but i never really liked it.

Why is the Install tab locked up. I really want this app.

I tested this version on Songbird 1.0. Sadly it doesn't work. I would really love to get this one for my Songbird. This is definitely a feature which should be in this application.

I hate cross posting, but this is finally the best place for my request about being able to filter on "full albums" only, either based on a number of actual songs in the library compared to the theoretical number for the album, or based on a minimum total duration of songs in the library for an album.

I think this add-on should really be updated, it's a great way to view the album artwork in your library.

@moshy: This media view was my favorite in Windows Media Player before Songbird, but unfortunately this add-on completely useless (doesn't work). I see only a static window and that's it. There is a horizontal scrollbar, but doesn't work.

There is a scroll bar but it's hidden by lyricmaster / whatever you use on the right pane. Definitely a useful add on but as noted above, needs some tweaks. Well done for picking this up, Moshy! :) Thank you!

Love the potential on this one, Moshy. I’m getting the same thing Hiromacu described but on a Vista box. Definitely looking forward to some working scrollbars down the road. The mouse wheel does function, but it only scrolls one track at a time and not the actual page itself. Also would add to the wishlist the ability to choose which columns to display and to be able to resize them. Thanks for taking this one over!

@moshy: Yes I used my mouse wheel, sure. And as I wrote before the a horizontal scrollbar doesn't work too. This add-on didn't work before to me, I believed now works.

Gives me duplicates based on track number, so each album shows up as many times as it has tracks....

OK, the problem was that the main playlist was sorted by track number, which made the album view use that sort and therefore not match the album names up correctly. An easy fix is at line 549 of media-page.js, change
    this._mediaListView = value;
to
    this._mediaListView = value.mediaList.createView();

The vertical scrollbar gets pushed outside the edge of the headers, which is why when the window isn't maximized OR the user's resolution is too small they don't see it; resize slowly down from a maximized window and you'll see what I mean. That horizontal scrollbar doesn't work probably has something to do with this.

Is there any way to have both the filter pane and the album list view together at once. With quite a large collection, i like to use the filters to narrow my selcection see the results grouped by album with artwork like this view.

I've got a cover.jpg in *every* album folder and yet this plugin does not show the cover art for FLAC albums. Very disappointing. Any chance you could fix that?

Thanks for this update. I have a problem with the artist sorting. I'm sure you will correct this in a next version, but for the moment, the compilations are not handled correctly. One compilation album is split on several albums in this view.
Maybe a sort on (Album Artist if any and if non, on Artist), as Media Flow does it, would be more suitable. But even in this case, the Artist column should be added in the list of tracks.

Anyway, I understand that the work is still in progress (or in progress again !!), so I'll wait :)

Sweet update. I've been waiting for this for about a year now. This is a killer add-on, because alot of people use Windows Player just because it has this kind of view. Keep it up. Now, as a feather developer, I'd like to know if i could make a feather dependent skin for this, so if someone were to use Aero Bird Pro, they'd get a fancy background or something...

Great update moshy! I'm so excited that media views are getting better. I think eventually, if you start typing letters into the library it should go to the artist's name that starts with them, so that there is a faster way to navigate. Or there could be filter panes up top like iTunes has when you have it set to "Show Browser". Finally its useable save for two things. 1) focus track addon doesn't work with it. Meaning it doesn't follow each track playing which would be nice but not a real bother. What is a bother is that if I double click on the playing track it doesn't focus on it. Being able to do that is key. However, this is my ULTIMATE favorite view from iTunes, so Im going to be using it regardless.

Thanks for the update. One minor issue though is seems to sort by Artist before Album.

The previous version sorted by Album then Track No which is what I expected from this add on. Makes a big difference of you have a number of albums with various artists as you get more than one album show up.

May be you could add the artist to the stripe at the top and make them all sortable for the next version then we could sort it how we liked. (I know it's easy to say (-8))

Woah, great progress! I have many completion-albums though, so sort by artist is bad thing, and it seems there's not a way to sort them by album artist. I also don't like white background, and it would be great if I could choose the album art size, I want them bigger :) it would be also awesome if you could change fonts. And "now playing" speaker-icon is hidden. Many flaws but still, great great update!

Lists by artist not by album or am I doing something wrong?

This addon is pretty sweet, but it's going to be pretty useless for me until compilations comes along, whenever that is.

A couple of little ideas:

- Filter panes
- Lines like in the main filter view (i.e. alternating grey/white) would be nice, and in particular it would nice to be able to see when a song is selected
- Resizable album art
- I'm not fussed either way about the view being broken up by artist names, but I'd like it in general if this was more like the iTunes equivalent. I hate to say it, but this is one thing itunes does really well - things like hideable album art, nice eye candy and tidy delineation (such as between albums, and between the tracks and artwork/info column) really add to it.

This is the coolest media view by far, its so neat and simple, oh man i love it, thankyou! for making songbird for me!

Would be awesome, if it showed songs you have currently playing like spotify with a little play thing next to, and took you automatically down to that song/album. (like hovered over what is playing - maybe had a button to click which took you to that song, so you can move away if you want)

also secondly would be cool to have some kind of indication of what you have selected, maybe change the colour of the words or something.

also the search box in the top right (searching for artists) doesnt search for artists when album list is on, but if you search in the standard list and the swap back when the results are showing, only the ..... say two or 3 albums you searched show up in album list view. This is actually pretty useful, but activating the search in album list would be more useful!

Any chance for an update to work with the latest beta of songbird. This is my favorite media view on any media player. And does it work with Focus track? If so that would be so amazingly amazing it would be TOO amazing for words.

Cool stuff. What I would like as an enhancement is a better way to deal with Compilations: the album view is sorted by artists and contents of samplers are simply interspersed.

There must be a better way do do it (or have I simply overlooked something???). The way I did it in iTunes was to define two playlists: one where compilation=no, the other one with compilation=yes.

Can I do this here as well?

nice, but the extension is pretty useless to me if it doesn't support sorting purely by album title.
i have a lot of compilations, which makes my playlist totally clobbered with the by-artist sorting.

Been looking at the sorting problem.

It looks like the code is picking up the artist tag for the initial high level sort. If you were to use the "Album Artist" tag instead of the "Artist" tag I think you will fix the issue with compilations.

Maybe a sort by

1 Album Artist
2 Album
3 Track No

would work.

If you do it this way it should mean that any compilations will end up under the heading of "Various Artists" or whatever people use for the Album Artist tag for these types of albums.

Unfortunately my javascript is fairly basic and is not up to finding the location in the media-page.js file, though from what I can see it looks like you need a SBProperties.albumartistName (assuming such a thing exists) for the initial sort to get the thing to work as I think it was originally intended.
