Add buttons to select the media-view easier and to hide player-controls.
This add-on adds a button to your status bar to show & hide player controls.
Also it enables the "hide right service pane"-button in library-view. By default it is available only in browser-view.
But most important, it adds toolbar-buttons for media-views:
* Album View
* BirdQuizz
* Divided Tag Cloud
* Duplicated Tracks
* Ghost Tracks
* MediaFlow
* ♪Photo
* Vertical Filter Pane
... Something is missing here? Leave a note!
If you like this add-on, you can help me by translating it on Babelzilla. Thanks.
Known Issues: Currently all buttons can be shown, even if you don't have all Media-Views installed. I try to fix this, soon.
0.610:
* Added a button for Stevos recently updated Album View. (To propitiate him, because i borrowed some of his code from ChangeFilter Add-on. ;-)
0.602:
Big update (some bugs might travel within this package):
* All functions are optional, now.
* Add optional buttons to the toolbar for an easier Media-View-Switching
* Hide default Media-View dropdown-Button.
Thx to the guys of the songbird crew, who helped me out in the Dev-Forum! :-)

... and the left bottom pane?
I just usually don't change left-bottom-pane (album-art, for me) and I guessed other people don't want to, too :-)
You could use a button for that one, too? I implement that, if you want.
@atreiu
Very usefull ! Good work !
Yes!!! Thank you!!! I requested this feature some time ago, finally I have it :D
Nice!
that was needed =)
that was needed =)
Thanks you!
The lack of this feature was a complaint I made recently in the uninstall survey.
Thanks for your feedback, and I thought I was the only one complaining :-D
I hope my add-on is only needed for a short time, this feature is surely something that has to be build in the main application.
@atreiu,
You are simply on the ball. Am I to assume that you will be incorporating buttons for the various media views? Stevo just launched two NICE ones.
@deomega, yeah, stevos new views rock! But do you think buttons for mediaviews would be helpful? Switching through the button in the nav-bar is quite easy & fast, yet.
Much needed - Icing on the cake. Great Add-On!!!
@atreiu
hmm, maybe not needed.. Maybe I need to get accustomed to the drop-down list for views... though the list has gotten longer now that he has added 2 more great ones. Thanks for considering though.
@deomega: yeah, the list is getting longer :-D And I'm not quite accustomed to the drop-down list, too. (In fact i discovered the existence of this button yesterday :-x ) I'll wait some days, and if I don't get used to it, this would be my next step:
There's lots of space in nav-bar (next to the dropdown-button), I could create buttons for every media-view and put them there. Of course the user should be able to select the buttons to show in an option-pane, otherwise clarity would not be granted.
The thing with the media view button is if you go onto the web with songbird, the browser address area takes up that space, but I am sure you would know how to work around it :) Either case, I am one of those that certainly welcome a few more buttons.
@deomega: media-views are completely disabled when you are in browser mode, so you won't miss the buttons, then. I have to check out, how hard it is to implement the options. Never done this before.
Ah... true. My mistake.
Awesome! Thank you!
Gah, damn not being able to edit comments :)
Would it be possible to define where the controls appear?
For instance, the pane toggle buttons can kind of get lost in between other items (last.fm, stylish, etc)
It would also be logical if the toggle buttons were over on the left hand side, along with the service pane toggle button.
Just (another) idea!
Thanks! But an autohide-function like you suggested would be much better. But that's too difficult for me to implement... :-/
@atreiu
Ok, i'll go back to being patient :)
Really appreciate the update though!
yeah, no ability to edit comments sucks :-D
the position of the buttons is just because it's the easiest way to put them there. I would put more effort in this add-on, but i'm focused on YABS. And i REALLY think my addon should be just provisionally! Switching these panes HAS to be possible without an extension. And an autohide-extension HAS to be created! :-D
The F11-function implemented in the nightlies is a good start...
So, well, sorry, if don't put much more work into this add-on. I hope you understand... ;-)
Again, i was too late :-p Thanks! I think i go to bugzilla and demand an edit-comments-function ;-)
Awesome work atreiu! Didn't even think I needed this until you make this extension!
@stevo, yeah, its funny! I didn't either! But if the controls are hidden, you suddenly see, that you can lots of things without them, and use the space for other things :-)
btw, I'm a very great fan of your add-ons! I wish I had your coding-skills O.O
This should be default in the Songbird UI. lol. Thanks for the nifty add-on.
i have a problem. whether i'm in the library mode or browser mode, the buttons to select which pane view doesn't appear, and it's the latest version. help? :)
@awkwardsmile: which feather do you use? anything suspicious in the error-log? could you provide a screenshot? (if i can see your status-bar layout/icons, perhaps that would help, too)
@awkwardsmile: 2 more questions: Does the button to hide servicepane-left(!) work in library/playlist mode? You should see this button at least. And: which songbird version do you use? No nightly, no 0.6, right?
nope! i'm using songbird 0.7 the latest version.
@awkwardsmile: Sorry, I need more info, or I won't be able to solve this problem:
1. Please try to create a new, blank profile with profile-manager. Install only Pane Buttons. Do they show up, then?
2. Does the button to hide servicepane-left(!) work in library/playlist mode? You see this button by default, but it only works in library-mode with Pane Buttons installed.
3. Anything suspicious in the error-log?
4. Which Feather do you use?
i'm currently using the default gonzo feather with the personas for songbird add on. does it affect it?
Not in my songbird:

Again: I might be able to solve this, if you answer my questions. Otherwise I probably can't.
1. Please try to create a new, blank profile with profile-manager. Install only Pane Buttons. Do they show up, then? yep

2. Does the button to hide servicepane-left(!) work in library/playlist mode? You see this button by default, but it only works in library-mode with Pane Buttons installed.
3. Anything suspicious in the error-log?
4. Which Feather do you use?

@awkwardsmile: thanks a lot! I wonder, why do you have two close-buttons in the window-bar in the screenshot with personas? In the new profile you haven't. Might be a sign for a corrupted profile.
Error log seems to be clear (for pane-button problem).
I posted something about this in the dev-group ( http://groups.google.com/group/songbird-dev/browse_thread/thread/434aa82c23349a26 ) and now wait for an answer.
If you would like to do some more testing, you could install all your addons used in the old profile in the new profile, one by one, and watch out, if the pane-buttons stop working at any point. If the buttons keep on working, it is a corrupt profile.
oh there is an extra close button cos that's the "minimize/close to task bar" add on :) ok sure i will try that and get back to you!
OMG YOU'RE RIGHT IT'S THAT EXTRA CLOSE BUTTON THAT CAUSES THE THING TO BE MISSING!!! Why :(
you mean this add-on: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/1 ?
I don't get an extra close-button, when i install this, even in a new profile.
mh, i just figured out that you are using this one: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/1
This add-on is not compatible with 0.7, like gmail notifier, you are using too. You can't expect to override compatibility without causing problems.
(I do this by myself, sometimes. But if I get an error, the first thing I try is to disable ALL incompatible add-ons. This solves the problems like every time.)
Anyway, i see what i can do...
wrong link above. This is the incompatible addon you are using: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/152
I'm sorry, I found no solution. "System Tray Support" was build for Rubberducky, 5 month ago, not for Gonzo. A lot of things have changed since this. Source-code for some dll and xpt of the add-on is using is missing, too. Track the error down would just take too much effort and time, and I don't know if it is possible at all. SO... you will have to decide, which add-on to use, or get the system tray support - developer to update it to Gonzo. :-/
@atreiu
Your extension idea is integrate since today songbird 0.8.0pre nightly build !
@GeekShadow: Great news! Thanks for letting me know!
Very handy man, thanx a lot, great add-on!!
Some of what you had are still missing from the integration.. plus, i hope they consider the buttons across the top.
atreiu,
Can't hear from you :). Could you please make this compatible to Songbird 1.0? I read above about it being incorporated, but many of the features were left out.
Regards
@deomega: Done! (finally ;)
Thank u once more, and congrats for being incorporated to the core :-)
GREAT update !
Lol, i thought this add-on was dead when Songbird integrated it into their player. Looks i was wrong. Nice one ;).
Lol, the condemned live longer. ;-) Thanks for your comments.
deOmega sheds tears of joy!! :)
Really nice update indeed...Thank you!
Very nice work, thank you.
A few things though:
- Add an option to disable the switch media view button. Since all the views have a button of their own (which I prefer), the switch button is only taking additional space.
- I have my player controls at the top and it looks really weird to have the button ti hide/show them in the bottom of the window. I can't really think of way to make this better, maybe add an option to disable the remove the button from there?
- Add a menu option to the "View" menu to hide/show the service pane just like the others on that menu.
That's it :)
Sweet. I really like the MediaFlow icon :)
@Nazgulled: Thanks for your suggestions!
1.) I'm working on an option-pane, where you can set all the buttons and behaviours of PaneButtons, I will add an option to hide the default media-view button there.
2.) Yeah, that does feel strange... but I guess there is no better place for it. How ever, like in 1.) said, you will be able to remove this button from the Statusbar.
3.) Good idea! I will give try to do that :-)
@JohnM: :-) it's even shown, if they don't have MediaFlow, at the moment :-p I thought about change its functionality to open your download-page, in that case, hihi... But an option pane will be the more clean solution, i guess.
hmm, the additional media view buttons are not showing for me, and actually removed the list view one.
man, where is the edit post option.. lol.
Ignore my haste.. it is awesome.. i saw the 'known issue' you posted and misunderstood.. Especially not being able to access the option in the regular addon window.
Everything is great.. Thank you.
Man, this is fantastic!!!!!
Hmm, I see some striking resemblance between your preferences pane and mine for Configfilters ;)
@deomega: Lol, i don't understand, what you problem was, but I'm glad if it's gone. If you have the trouble again, tell me :-)
@stevo: *looking-in-the-air,-whistling*
I hope you don't mind, it saved me some time. I've stolen the complete groupbox xul and parts of the framework of the corresponding .js
This just updated and I lost the icon for the media view – only have list view and pane view there now. You mention buttons for Ghost Tracks, Tag Cloud, etc. have been added, but they’re not showing up for me. Thanks for your work on this.
@Mark: By default only List & Filters are shown. That is a change to the last version. Another change is, that you can decide, what buttons show up :-) Go to the options, select "Pane Buttons" on the left side, here you can add MediaFlow and all the other buttons again :-)
PS: Look at the 3rd screenshot, if you have difficulties in finding the options.
Nevermind. I just realized the options dialogue has moved to a tab in the Options window. Very nice!
@atreiu:
That is the problem i was trying to explain.. I guess Mark did a better job explaining. hehe.. MY stuff disappeared after the upgrade....then i went into tools/addons, and saw no option to modify the pane buttons, so thought.. darn. And that s when i posted my dismay.. :)
But after going to tools/options/pane buttons, I saw the options there and realized what happened, so i was able to get them back.
Any way of enabling the options in tools/addons? Some modifiable addons have it there while some don't. Never understood why some has their options accessible one way but not the other.
Hi, this is a great addon but I have a small problem with it: It makes the Tools->Options window really wide! About 1050px, which is too wide for my screen on my current setup. Thanks!
Hi Steve, i have this problem by myself, even before i installed PaneButtons. I did some testings right now, and I'm sure it is a songbird-bug, not a PaneButtons-Bug. You can find the details of my testings on bugzilla, you can vote for this bug, too:
http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14274
Atreiu,
Is it possible to implement separators? Would be nice to be able to put a separator between things that are essentially tasks (eg. Duplicates), and those that are truly views (eg. mediaflow)
Whoever rated this down should be kicked in the balls (you shouldn't hurt girls). This deserves a exact 5 star. Seriously, i added a new profile for some more testing on a feather I'm making, and Songbird just seems so lacking without this add-on. One suggestion though, could you do autohide for the service pane and player controls? That would be pretty neat, and maybe even be a separate add-on on it's own.
@Lib53: actually, i rated it 3 stars, because I'm not yet satisfied with it (*putting-on-my- jockstrap,-now* ;-)
Auto-hide is a good idea and easy to do, the problem is the auto-show, that should be added then, too. But I see what I can do!
Is it possible to have a MINI player button? If possible, up by the min, max, close buttons? We know we could doubleclick on the mini player to get to main app, but would be nice to have a click area for the mini player.
Man, could we get any lazier? :)
@deOmega: Yeah, that's a god idea, especially switching TO miniplayer takes two more mouse-actions than needed (no, i guess more lazier would cause death :)
I thought about that some times before, but i read somewhere this button would be re-added in 1.1. or something. But I now think they won't do it.
About the separators for the buttons: I think I don't spend time on this, because customizable tool-bars will come in one of the next Songbirds, and this might change a lot anyway.
Atreiu,
Thanks, I appreciate your feedback very much.
Try rating it 5 to see if everyone else rated it 5, because i think you're bringing down this add-on's reputation. :P
