hey atreiu! (by the way, is it atreiu as in 'atreyu' the band? you like them. i love their music :P)
i really like your skin. the blue and black looks very nice. a list of problems i've found:

the right hand side panel thing (i use the lyrics plugin) still has a white background

It would be nice to see a more glossy black finish for the whole thing. that would make this a really sexy skin. or at least a few different shades of black. i like how the original Gonzo skin uses gradients. the skin isn't one shade. it is normally 2 that blend into each other. i think something like that would make your skin absolutely fantastic.

make the left pane a different colour/shade. it blends into the library too much for my liking. and its the same shade as the rest of the player.

something about the tabs just doesn't look right. maybe because they too are the same colour as the rest of the player but i think by maybe rounding the corners or something they could look nicer

in the bottom right. the number of songs in the library isn't visible because it is black.

I'd suggest maybe using a very dark shade of blue and then charcoal black for the lines in the library that make songs distinguishable. that would look awesome. also maybe a glossy black or glossy blue colour when you select a song?

its a good idea but the yellow little speaker that shows which track is playing really annoys me. it would look better as blue

i really like the design of the play button (although i'd like for the little symbol inside the button to be white instead of grey), and the play button is a little small. just a little bigger and it would be perfect :) and i really like the volume and faceplate designs. nice work. :) maybe make the next track and last track buttons a little bigger and stand out more.

nice work on this skin. for just a test version it is looking very promising. i'l deffinitly use it once its finished!

I think this is a really good start. However I would suggest centering the fast forward and rewind buttons with the play/pause button. I also think that the volume bar should be shrunk height wise. Keep up the good work.

Excellent Skin. Best so far from my perspective.

My suggestions would be:

Having the volume bar more centered to the speaker icons horizontally, and enhancing the volume speaker icons... they almost just look like stains currently :).
It is hard to decipher the max and minimum volume level graph. Maybe have a background for the graph.
Also, please consider putting the play button more centered vertically to the 'next' and 'previous' buttons.

If people having problems with the yellow speaker next to the song playing, maybe consider toning it down, as well as toning the stars to match it, but I think it goes well with the stars.

The blue could be a tad... just a tad more subdued... but I realize going much darker makes them difficult to be seen.

Please note that these are suggestion for perfection in MY eyes.. but seeing that there are many user perspectives, it may already be as perfect as it could be.

Maaaaaaaaan........It looks so good, I want to eat it.

IF you have others positing a few other color preferences, maybe you could consider this one the BLUE, while you add a couple other feathers with the same Black concept, but just change out the Blue to whatever... one should not expect you to do a a lot of them, but thinking that may be a decent angle if the feather has the appeal.

Someone may be waiting a their pink version :)

For some reason, I am unable to select this feather after installing it.

Running 0.7.0

I select YABS from the list of feathers, my songbird disappears like normal, but never comes back. Let it sit for several minutes.

Other feathers seem to be working fine.

Anyone else having trouble out there?

You are doing a heck of a job on this project, imo. Easy to offer suggestions on something in progress, but to do the work you are doing, I am not that capable... or I surely would. I am truly an end user.

My last remaining suggestions, and I hope others agree...

Please consider the issue of the sharp black edge as suggested by Mooksb.. if I understand him correctly. Maybe give it a tiny shiny border like you gave the tabs and the area that has the media playing info (that area between the sound volume and the shuffle button), so it does not contrast so hard against other windows in the background.

I know you are working on the edit properties area when one opens a playlist such as highest rated.. That is it for me man, I look forward to your continued progress.

About the mockup, it looks good to me as well, but only thing is that they are so close to each other, that one may have to use care when selecting anything on them...likely not an issue, but that is my only thought.

When I change my player controls to the top, the Volume bar disappears. SO, shows up with controls at bottom, but not when at Top.

This is definitely the best 'new' black songbird feather for gonzo... I have only 1 problem and 1 suggestion :D

Problem: When looking at smart playlists the "Edit Properties" button down the bottom is surrounded by white, looks out of place...

Suggestion: After putting the new volume bar in, the player controls themselves look a bit out of place... I think it would look better if they were 'squared up' a bit, e.g. make the play/pause button a wide (rounded) rectangle & make the back/forward buttons squarer. That way the play button might not cut into the volume control either..?

Either way you're definitely the best 'featherer' so far :P

2. Sorry, I don't know of any other feathers with buttons like it... If you can get a mockup done maybe I can try suggesting things better then? Or I might be able to make my own mockup, but you'd have to use a LOT of imagination when looking at it :D.

3. It's kind of funny, because when I filled out one of those songbird surveys I suggested that if they were going to go for a mostly white interface they should add some color in to spice things up, and your sketch version did just that! :)

I am not posting now to be picky,(Well, maybe I am hehe) , but you really do not have to address them, but thought I would point out, JUST IN CASE I am not alone.

 I know you made some changes to the edges, but the edge that I really had a problem with, is across the top.... I cannot tell you how many times I have clicked on Firefox's file, edit menu thinking it was Songbird's. (My Firefox's theme is Black).... And when I look at any data or anything behind that edge, it hurts the old eyes.. depending on what it is contrasting with.. which is generally something that does, unless songbird is maximized.
 
I suppose that you did not want to take the border you added, all the away around? Would probably looks caged in I suppose. Honestly, just posting thoughts fwiw. Keep thinking. :).

Are you referring to the 'edit properties' button? It comes up when you open ANY playlist.. or any list that you could edit the properties of. SO yes, when you select a playlist, it comes up.

Well, i think that the remaining areas are easy for you to find now that you can see :).. all the 'edit properties' for the PLAYLISTS, same for DOWNLOADS.... the minimize, max, close buttons of SOngbird (unless that is your choice), and the new ALBUM LIST viewing pane.

I Started doing captures of them, but realized they should be easily found.

Do you know that the word 'songbird' at the top left corner of the player, and the 'File, edit, tool etc ' text are different colors? Don't know if you did on purpose.

By the way, If you did not put those 'grippers' on edges such as at the top of the service pane, bottom of media view, etc, I would not have known that those areas were that Flexible with a single click. THANK YOU :). Never noticed that in any other skin.

Actually, I do have one request :)

Is it at all feasible to autohide the player controls while in the web browser? Similar to how the left hand pane autohides. This would assume that the player controls are set to display on the bottom of course.

Not sure if that is even possible through a skin.

Couple ideas I've had are either autohiding it so that it pops back into view when you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen. Added a toggle button for it in the status bar, like the left hand pane does. Or even just creating a miniature version of the player controls and now playing status in the status bar itself.

Anyway, just throwing all that out there!

If you do a Google image search on 'play buttons' you may see some ideas. I personally have no original ideas, which is why I am piggybacking your work. :). But I must add that I, like Brendy, also like the added touch of having the play button dip into the volume bar.

Sometimes I wonder if you should do something about the lack of a margin between the active and nonactive are across the top. In that, if one wants to drag songbird around, you cannot do that by clicking just ANY area at the top... it is a bit of trial and error or attention be paid to selecting the area above the invisible margin across the top. But I suppose that if you do those media view buttons across the top, then that line would essentially be implied/created.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Would you mind re-posting your vote request below my rambling or periodically as you wait, so that the request is not lost between ramblings like mine,as most new visitors may not scroll up. :)

Personally i don't think the play/pause button needs to be changed i really like the one we already have.
Also the mini player looks great, i noticed how the blues change as you scroll over the bar(the one that tells you how long a song has been playing for)
again the colour combinations are great, the grey/black blends perfectly with the blue

Hey again, just a suggestion, would it be possible to make the active tab slightly more visible? At the moment the only way to tell which tab is active is a slightly brighter icon, but it takes a while to see this and I often miss it.

Tools, Options, mashtape, Photos tab: Photo Scroll speed slider is not visible.

The x in the search area next to the media views button is not visible,, one has to click blindly to clear the list.

When installing an addon, the install window is not fully skinned.

Hopefully, one day, songbird backbone will avoid so much tweaking for you.

I just thought I'd make a tiny little suggestion for my favorite theme of all time! :P Using NABS really got me hooked on the blue title for active tabs and I think it really helps to make the active tab more noticeable. I am not sure if YABS has ever had this, but it looks really good in NABS and I think it would copy over well. Other than that its almost totally perfect (for me)!

excellent skin! only one problem so far, which is that the color of the statusbar text when hovering over a link. Could this be made a slightly higher contrast so it is readable? I see this as a borderline security issue since you can't see where you are about to go.

Also, and this might just be a bug in songbird, but sometimes the text doesn't show up at all.

By not working I mean that I click on install but it terminates the installation in a moment and when I click restart songbird, I still have the Grey skin.
I use Windows Vista Ultimate.

Just a thought, I am not sure, but sometimes I wonder if the search library area could be darker, instead of the standout white. BUt I know if you change it too much, people may not be able to see it.. I dunno. The overall theme is all so subdued, but then we have that one standout spot, that is used just for search.

I have no trouble skinning Firefox in Vista - I have it running with a nice dark skin on my computer at work. Your songbird skin shows up with the black titlebar on my Macbook. Firefox, however, doesn't want to cooperate. Is the problem coded into FIrefox and not Songbird?

I have to assume that aaroniero-glotoneria97989798 does not read or speak English well, so maybe he posted what little he could come up with, and this is how he gets his point across. I am assuming further as I see u are, that he is indeed asking for a replacement of the Blue with Red.
Just remember that songbird has gotten pretty international.

If he does read and write English well enough, then, I am also puzzled.

As popular as this theme is, if you pull off that option you mentioned.. to chose accent from blue to whatever.. you may have some folks asking you out on a date.

If i could suggest...I would say that the scroll bar could be on the right side as the default is, but just make it appear narrower and/or not with as bright an outline as the others? I would think that would not take away as much and may even look better than having it on the left. Also, keep it a bit away from the rounded edge that it would be next to, so that it does not affect the flow of said rounded edge.

Just my opinion of course.

Hey uhhh I don't know if it's intentional but when I'm making playlists and press space it always jumps to the front of the playlist name. If I try typing an alphabetical character, the cursor will move back to the correct place, but if I try using, say, an exclamation mark the mark appears at the beginning of the playlist name.

If it's not supposed to work like that there might be a bug.

Oh and I'm running 1.0 on xp if that helps.

That issue is addressed above. Just scroll up a little. For now, consider it intentional, imo, because of a technique the developer had to use to get the scroll bar to the left side for a better appearance.

I really like this feather, however I cannot find something that I see in the screenshots. I like the medium skin, the one pictured in the lower left of the group of screenshots above. It looks like a miniplayer, but I only have the miniplayer next to it. This miniplayer doesn't match the skin at all.
If there is an option to use this medium size player I cannot find it. Thanks for your assistance. I'm on Vista.

I found a bug today!
The shuffle button is disappear if I restart SB (after an add-on installation) and sometimes when I just start it. The button appear again if I switch the YABS to Gonzo (default) and back.

Your comment about not liking this feather 'that much' is truly a testament as to why it helps to have many options and why Songbird will be a success. Also great that you make your own to give users options.

However, I cannot help but add that this feather to me is as close to perfect a feather could be. The download count for such a relatively short lifespan really is also a testament to that too.

I am not an experienced DOM user, but had to offer some input. I am using windows VISTA 32bit.

If what I am seeing is what you guys are referring to, that is quite an observation. I never thought it was a problem, so maybe i am mistaken in what it really is. If I am not, then here is some feedback just in case it helps.

The default Gonzo has the same thing, as does nabs. The difference is that it is more noticeable in YABS because YABS is black. The other difference is that on the default Gonzo, the line stops below the back browser button and above album art panel..whereas YABS and NABS go the full distance except for the menu bar.

As you can tell, I took these using the magnifier.. and the funny thing is this.. on the launch of the magnifier, that line goes away for a moment, and that shows me why it could be a nag for a user that just wants a nice solid black.. but please note that this is not unique to Songbird... I have seen other programs have that issue on VISTA... though I cannot recall them now.

OK, as for that issue with the line on the left side of your theme or songbird for that matter when Songbird is maximized..

The problem is resolved in VISTA basic settings. It is the 'fancy' settings that causes it.

Like i said, from my recollection, Songbird is not the only problem it happens with, and it is not your theme, because it is also a problem in the default feather... it is just that no one can see it as easily because of the shade of the default Gonzo.

Also, for your sanity, I just installed another black theme: Elegance, and it has the same issue as yours. Except, his line mimics the length of the one in gonzo, while yours go longer. Will try to post an image

I installed YABS back in 1.0.0, and recently moved to 1.1.0. It was working fine previously, and then I just updated to the two newest updates (the new iPod management add-on and the new YABS). The only current add-on I have installed other than that is Lyric Master which has never had a problem. I currently have YABS enabled and installed properly (I even uninstalled and re-installed to make sure it wasn't just the update. Now, the problem is that the actual theme isn't working. What I look at is back to the original theme (both when it's disabled and enabled). Nothing I do seems to have an affect on whether the theme is working or not.

I used to have no trouble with YABS, but now the volume bar is really screwed up. When I click on it, the volume will go to a place about 1 centimeter from where I clicked. This may not seem like a serious problem, but it becomes very irritating, since I have to keep the volume very low because my speakers are so loud. Is there any way I can fix this? I have no idea how to. I have tried reinstalling YABS several times, and the problem has not gone away. I never had this problem with previous versions of YABS. Is there somewhere where I can install the previous version? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Atreiu, I love the skin, have been using it since I got Songbird; in recent updates, though, I've noticed a small white space to the left of the volume controls, at the left edge of the Songbird client; it looks like that 'pane' was moved slightly the right and exposed white space, which is just a little distracting. Is that issue unique to me, or?

Unfortunately, after the most recent update the sliver of white space now spans the entirety of the left side of the program when maximized.

Also, I love PurePlayer (though I wish the rounded edges worked for me), and wanted to know: is there a way to make the text size adjustable?

Quick question... I run a multi-monitor setup and like to keep the media player maximized on one of the screens. A lot of this theme turns gray when I'm active in another window, which is a same because in my opinion it ruins the look of this theme. Is this a songbird problem or something with your theme?

I know you did not ask me, but since I run multiple monitors, may I ask a couple questions? You may have tried these already, but you did not indicate:

Does this happen also when you are running the default songbird skin as well? Have you tried other feathers not created by Atreiu to see if it happens with them as well? Additionally, does this happen when it is on one particular monitor or both? I probably won't need to respond, but those are things I have had to do in the past to rule out system or program issue, before assuming it's an an addon.

Was there a time u went through making the stars a little dimmer or lighter? After going back and forth using Pure Player, as well as having my song ratings in view in my library, I am finding that the ratings really take over the screen, as they stand out tremendously. So was wondering if you have considered dimming them a shade.

I like the shade in the song progress bar area, which is different and dimmer than the shade in the library. Would you consider making the entire library that shade?

But I have a suggestion:
This feather doesn't mark the previously played songs as (for example) Gonzo (default) as marks with lightener gray color in 'Now Playing List'. And doesn't show any selection highlights on the previously played songs as well.

I'm a bit obsessive-compulsive and though I've been using Y.A.B.S. for a while, I'd like a few bits of it changed and merged with another feather or two. If you say no then I won't bug you anymore, I'd just like to build a feather suited to me. You and any other feathers I use to make mine will receive most of the credit! I just don't want to do this on my own without your permission first.

Top notch feather (skin)! Highlighter color is sole improvement needed. Needs a clean blue fusion bar that will make the blue standout. Why is this Sunbird browser hidden? It is excellent.

Great feather, just thought I'd point out that you matched the equalizer button in YABS (for the Pane Buttons add on) but did not add the same matching icon for NABS. IE, check the equalizer button for NABS with Pane Buttons(bottom right).
