This is an awesome add-on. I only have one complaint...

Songkick does not support Canadian concerts. Boo-urns!

    @ashughes

Sorry we haven't got coverage of Canadian concerts yet, it's the next country we're going to focus on. I've never seen or been to Canada but some of the best gigs I've been to have been by Canadian bands. Neil Young, Final Fantasy and Wolf Parade were particuarly special. From your experience on the ground which Canadian ticket vendors should we focus on aggregating listings from? Thanks

    No New Zealand :(

But really like the idea. Maybe you could pull some of the information from last.fm as they also have their upcoming gig engine.

This is fantastic!!! I have been wanting something like this for years. One suggestion, It would be fantastic if you could add more than one city and be able to see the results grouped in distance.

    Keep up the good work!

Why not using Last.fm concert tool so it could be available in a lot more places in the world and with a result more close of the listener's taste ?

  8. 3 months ago
    billyvnilly billyvnilly

    It only lists 16 states!
Why would the songkick website support all the US and the addon not?

Any chance we will be able to select multiple locations? I live halfway between NYC and Philly and would like to see concert listings for both as well as for NJ. As of now, I have to select one, then go into settings and change to the other.

Or at least let me pick Newark, NJ and have it display concerts from NYC as well. NJ transit stops 4 blocks from the Prudential Center in Newark, and two stops and 15 minutes later, it's under Madison Square Garden - but I can't get listings for both locations under the same setting, apparently.

That being said, I love the add-on and will be using it frequently. Please just add multiple city selection.

great idea, but really limited concerts. Tried it, and only got 1 concert. Would definitely help to be able to select multiple locations, range from a location and possibly add other sources to find more shows, but its a good start for now.

    +1 vote New Zealand support!

Nah, I doubt you'll ever get here if you're working one country at a time!
I put my support behind also integrating with the Last.fm concerts API

When I try to disable this plugin (I'm from Sweden and have no real use of it) the word 'Concerts' still remain in the menu. The icon is gone and it happens nothing when I click it, but the word is still there. I've tried to uninstall the plugin as well, but with the same results. Just thought I'd let you know...

  13. 2 months ago
    stevel staff stevel

Interesting, it should have removed it entirely when you uninstalled the add-on. You may need to enable it first, and *then* uninstall it.

Does this plug-in use some kind of concert-finding interface within Songbird? I ask this question because I'm the webmaster of a local "underground" radio station near Sacramento and we have our own calendars of which local bands are playing where -- good bands that are typically far under the radar for concert ticketing sites. I'd like to develop a plug-in based on an open API that our own online music calendar uses, but would I have to duplicate this plug-in, ie could I access it's ticket column in the library view, or would I have to add yet another column?

It'd be nice if Songbird had a generic interface so we could develop many plug-ins to utilize many different concerting systems.

Right now the Concerts add-on isn't completely extensible to other providers; I've got a bunch of plans to make it more extensible and provide generic interfaces for adding in other concert ticketing providers though. Stay tuned...

@Songbird excellent! That is great news. Songbird excites me with its commitment to non-propriety and openness in everything that it does.

ok, im able to see all the states now.

anyway to get a more intuitive button instead of the slash in the top right corner.

This is really awesome. Thanks to this plug-in, just found out about 3 upcoming concerts that I want to go to. Would there be any way to throw in an "Export to Google Calendar" link? Or maybe even turn it into an XML RSS I could add as a calendar?

  20. 2 months ago
    stevel staff stevel

    @technomensch
Go to about:config, and create a new boolean configuration variable called "extensions.concerts.showgcal" and set it to "true"
You'll now see a little "Add to GCal" link next to each concert (in the listing page) which you can click (assuming you are signed into Google Calendar) to pop up a thing to add it to your Google Calendar.

It would be good if the plugin remembered my location so I didn't have to keep entering it. Also, the ability to change the loaction once the results have been displayed would be good, as there are several places I could go to concerts :-)

I like the output and the functionality is great.

  22. 2 months ago
    stevel staff stevel

It should remember your location already - and you should have an icon at the top right corner of the results page where you can change the location.

If it's asking you for your location each time, could you open your JS error console (Tools->Error Console) and send me any concert related error messages you see there?

  23. 2 months ago
    zathras zathras

Ah, OK, found the icon. Not the most obvious when right next to a hyperlink with the current location. Maybe it could be made more obvious somehow?

Also, when I searched initially it offered me the choice of "all" as none of the bands in my library were playing, but when trying a different location this wasn't offered and I was simply given all acts. Maybe the flag needs resetting for a new search?

I'll restart and see if it remembers, and if not I'll grab any errors. Do you want them pasted here or emailed direct?

    Thanks for the prompt reply!

Nice work! This was working fine for me until about a week ago. When I enter in US, MN, I get no cities. On the website, I get "Twin Cities". In songbird when it was working, I got a choice of Minneapolis and St. Paul. What gives?

maybe i'm just being very dumb, but once you bring up a screen of concert information, I can't figure out a way to go back to the original screen to search another city...I must clearly be missing something very simple here...right?

I live in holland at the moment and so would also like to see more european countries/cities listed, but although I'm sure this has all be said before, this is a dangerously good idea and one of the best I've seen on any application for a long time.

Mucos Kudos...can't wait for the next version!!

    stevel staff stevel

    @christian
At the top right corner, you should see your city listed with a little pencil icon next to it. If you click the pencil icon you can change the city. More European cities and countries are coming soon according to Songkick :)

OK, i reported the bug to Songkick. They fixed it! Anybody in MPLS / St. Paul can get it it working again fairly easily now. Here's how they told me to fix it:

    1) go to "about:config" in the URL
    2) search for a key called "extensions.concerts.locations.lastupdated
    3) right click on the value and select 'Modify' and change it to '0'
    4) restart Songbird, wait a minute or so for it to reload the locationdata.xml in the background
-- when Songbird restarts it should forcibly reload the locationdata XML from Songkick's servers
    5) try re-selecting the city

We just added concerts and tickets for New Zealand, Canada and Australia. Would love your feedback if you get a chance (which other vendors should we add, how it works for you etc):

We'll support more countries soon, thanks for your patience...

Is there any way I can force the addon to do an update on the concert listings?

  36. 9 days ago
    stevel staff stevel

@Geb, If you go and edit your location by clicking on the pencil icon at the top right of the listings, and just choose the same city that will force a manual refresh.
It should refresh once a day though in the background.

I'd find this much more useful if you could include your whole state, or even better multiple cities.

I'm just repeating what others have said maybe, but this is a great add-on, only it should support shows aaall over the world. Perhaps if there was a piece of code that allowed you to fetch the concerts from the Last.fm concerts thingy on your profile. Or something else maybe (even better): it could fetch the tourdates for a specific band from the Last.fm band profile (the "on tour" thing), that should fairly widen the concerts location issue.
