Direct access to your most visited websites

Speed Dial

Description

Original Description from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/4810:
With Speed Dial, you can easily access your most used websites. To show the Speed Dial tab, use the Speed Dial button (which can be added to the toolbar), or enter “chrome://speeddial/content” in your location bar.
To assign one website to Speed Dial, use the new “Set as Speed Dial” option in the bookmarks menu, or right click on the tab you want to add, and choose “Set as Speed Dial”. That option is also available in the contextual area menu.
Speed Dial will be automatically loaded in blank new windows. It can also load in blank new tabs. To configure this, and other options, use the extension settings panel.

Notes from the porter:
This is yet a crude port, not all functionality is fully working. Especially disable MultiKeys, as this will still produce a heavy load of errors.

Until (if) the author updates this, to install it do the following. This looks like a lot of steps, but it's really just extracting a text file and editing a line. You can do this with any abandoned add-on, by the way, but they won't always work properly.

Download the latest version. You can find this by clicking "version history," on the right of the page. The latest (at time of writing) for Speed Dial is at http://addons.songbirdnest.com/xpis/2017?source=download

Open the downloaded file with an archive manager. (Under Linux, just double-click it. Windows users use Winzip or whatever.) Leave this open.

Extract the install.rdf file.

Open install.rdf with a text editor (e.g., notepad) and locate the line: <em:maxversion>0.6.*</em:maxversion> (It's line 45 in this one.)

Edit that line so that the maxVersion value is greater than your version of Songbird. e.g., change 0.6.* to 5.6.*.

Put the edited install.rdf into the archive (speed_dial-0.1.2-sb.xpi) by dragging and dropping the file into your archive manager (Winzip or whatever). Close the archive manager.

In Songbird, click edit->preferences or tools->options. Click Add-ons on the left, then the install button at the bottom. Browse to the speed_dial-0.1.2-sb.xpi file you've updated.

Restart Songbird.
