A few extra things added. Gave a little love to the display pane which had been ignored the last few updates!
- Added a button at the top of the display pane to suspend notifications. This is handy if you like the notifications on, but want to run with the player minimized and the notifications keep restoring Songbird. Now instead of switching the preferences, you can suspend notifications. Then when you want notifications you can enable them according to your preference settings.
- Added the ability to not display the Artist and Track information in the Display pane.
- Added a right click context menu for the following actions:
- Copying selected text to the clipboard.
- Manually refreshing the Display pane. This is helpful if you switch lyrics databases while the song is playing, and want to refresh the pane to show the new servers lyrics.
- Open the metadata editor.
- You can now delete a tracks lyrics from the database and the file from the Display pane.
It should be noted that the last 3 actions in the list can only be performed on a playing song. This is to prevent manipulating the lyrics for a song unintentionally.
- Some other random bug fixes.
- Thanks to Joergen for the da-DK translation!
1.6.1.1 - Removed some partial translations so it doesn't default Songbird back to English as language.
A Right Sidebar that displays lyrics, nothing else.
Uses Stevel’s code from mashtape that gathers lyrics (for now).
Pretty simple add-on, but was the one thing I was missing, so I thought I’d share my progress thus far.
Thats the big ones on my list of “eventually’s.”
very nice
as i sort the artists alphabetically by their last name, i’d REALLY love to see lyricmaster find the lyrics for “johnson, jack – on and on” – as it already does for “jack johnson – on and on”.
generally spoken: ignore punctiation, show hits that match any combination of the searchterms. that would make lyricmaster better than any add-on for any other mediaplayer.
thanks!
smartn
great piece of work, but i’d love to see the lyrics search improved: as i sort my music by the artist’s last name (so the structure is ‘last name, first name’ or ‘band name, the’ etc.) i don’t get any results for the lyric search; if there was an option to display hits that match any combination of the search terms (regardless of punctuation and order of these terms), this add-on would be awesome!
thanks
smartn
ups – sorry for the doubling…
this doesnt work in my version of song bird :(
im using 0.6.1
@liltrix Should be fixed now
Firstly, thanks for a great add on, works fine for me so far, grabs all the lyrics from the songs I’ve thrown at it. However, I stupidly right clicked the panel and closed it, and now I can’t get the LyricMaster panel to show again. I know there is going to be a stupidly easy way to get it back, but my silly brain can’t find an option. Please help. x
Fixed it now: View > Show Right Side Bar
Knew it would be simple. :( x
Great add-on so far.
The sidebar doesn't adjust in to height of the window. I have a resolution of 1024x768. But I have to scroll to see the bottom of the text box and then again with the inner scroll bar to see all the content.
Awesome, nice job. :) Super cool to have lyrics available separately.
@ gengnom -> This should be fixed with 1.1.2. Thanks for the feedback!
@ stevel -> Thanks!!!
@ all -> keep the feedback coming. The 2 major things I want to work on for sure is to be able to read-write them to the Tag/Songbird DB and a preferences page to set different settings, like the way your library is set up, IE John Doe vs. Doe, John
very nice work ;)
but there is a bug if there is no lyric found.
the yellow bar appears on the top but its cut from the lyricsbox.
by the way there is one thing I miss... the option to send lyrics to the database
Greetz ALU
Very nice works. I like the color choice very much. Certainly, being able to send lyrics to the database will be a nice addition.
great add on but i didn't know that clicking the yes button meant that it saved it to the database and went and clicked yes to almost every song i've played so far and now only the songs that i clicked yes to have lyrics displayed. how exactly do i undo this so it searches the internet and retrieves lyrics to my songs?
i'm not sure if it's my computer etc but i don't see lyrics appearing at the side for this plugin as well as for the other lyrics plugin. help? did install any other plug in cause this lyrics plug in not to work? i dont even see the error messages popping up
http://www.lyricsplugin.com/ is currently down which is where the lyrics are gathered from.
If possible, you should try to get this to work with minilyrics, or else adapt their thing. Synched lyrics are officially awesome.
Thanks for this great add-on! I can't wait for updates :-)
The feature I'm missing the most:
- dynamic-resize of the lyrics-editbox to use the whole space of the sidebar...
- option for font-size (currently way to small for me)
- save lyrics to the mp3-files.
synced lyrics would be sweet. Also I was wondering if you could make it auto-save. Thanks
Great add-on! But....Where are saved the lyrics?
Nice job rcw2003!
max
Nice add-on. Also one feature request: It would be really great if it could automatically update when a webstream sends new title information. Thanks.
Nice and handy one! I like it. However, it has a problem getting lyrics for songs with Chinese title. It works fine for Chinese songs in English titles, though. I presume it also happens to other languages that does not use the western characters. Please fix this so more people can enjoy this plugin. =) Thanks a lot for the plugin.
Works great. Thank you.

SB0.7.0
Would be it possible to implement Lyric searching while listening to Radio ? (Shoutcast)
I think the problem is that it reads the radio name(Stream Name) instead of reading the comments(Radio Comments) where the artist/song name is displayed !
First, thanks to everyone for your compliments!
@maxmaronna - Lyrics are saved to the songbird database.
@golvin - I can check into this, though at this point I'm not sure if it's a limitation of the plugin or the site I'm pulling the lyrics from.
@Tuche and neelance - I will look into what it takes to update for webstreams.
Busy working on the next version! Should have some nice stuff like preferences, and a new display format! Unfortunately synced lyrics is probably out of the scope of this project, as EvilLyrics and MiniLyrics (the only 2 synced lyrics apps I know) are both closed source applications. But I am looking at implementing a mass batch retrieval feature. But thats a ways down the road yet.
Again, thanks for your suggestions and your support!
this is in my top 2 favourite add ons! other than the Now playing list add on, this is the most useful add on in songbird. the new update is fantastic! keep up the good work
Fantastic add-on... this is the add-on that has made me decide to drop lyrics from the next version of mashTape, cause this just does it better in every possible way. Nice work. :)
Really, really, REALLY great update! :-D
Can I send you a display-scheme to fit my feathers (YABS)?
Wow - the styles are great!
There's a class (.generic-bar) that we've been using if you want to add that to your list of styles (the shoutcast add-on uses it for the box that holds the logo and filter text input box)
@atreiu If you know CSS, you can edit one of the CSS files in the Style folder of the add-on, and send that to the email address in the release notes, If you don't know CSS, you can try to explain to me what you want I can see what I can do. =)
hi rcw003 et all,
i downloaded this and i can't find it anywhere.... where is it? i've tried looking in rubberducky and gonzo.... i looked at the screenshots but it just doesn't show up like that....
thanks!
Have you gone to View -> Show Right Sidebar?
@rcw003: you got email :-) .css and background-image in it.
found it. thank you very much, this looks like just what i wanted! nice add-on!
THANKS! =)
ok, i have a second question. i'm listening to a cd and lyricmaster downloaded faulty lyrics for a song. the song is led zeppelin's "in my time of dying" which definitely has words, but all lyricmaster says is "led zeppelin lyrics." all the rest of the songs pull the correct lyrics just fine, so i know it works.
how do i delete the field so that it can try again to pull up the correct lyrics? i don't see a way to do this, is it a permanent error?
thanks again!
@nicolaluna - have you changed the options for it to always save? If you have, for now there is now way of changing that, until I get that added. If you haven't changed it to always save, you can change the site it pulls the lyrics from and that may have better lyrics.
@atreiu - Anytime!
I would really like to see the ability to edit the lyrics and change the search query. I save named like "The Beatles" as "Beatles, The" and this prevents the plugin from finding lyrics to many songs. Other times the lyrics are off or formatted poorly and I would like to edit it.
Thanks for listening.
LyricMaster saved the wrong lyrics for one of my songs, how do i remove it and point Lyric Master to the correct one, that i recently put on LyricWiki?
This is almost the single reason to ditch iTunes and jump on the songbird bandwagon. Sweet!
@rcw003

"How do I delete lyrics if I accidentally saved the wrong ones?"
http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/topics/lyrics_pane?utm_content=topic_link&utm_medium=email&utm_source=reply_notification
The same question I see here from voxe1486.
Is there a separate db file which can be deleted/modified?
"If you don't want your files and database out of sync. Please do not hit the YES button when it asks you to save!"
What if someone did hit YES accidentally or want to change to another lyrics later?
At the moment, deleting saved lyrics is not possible. The Lyrics are saved to the songbird database. The next update will add this functionality, and I'm busy working on that. If you want LyricMaster to not ask you to save the lyrics you can set that in the options for LyricMaster.
this doesn't save to the "lyrics" portion but the "comments" segment of the metadata right? because when i "save" the lyrics as prompted and i try to "open" it on my ipod but nothing shows up. help?
Why plugin doesn't show lyrics from shoutcast? When I listen the same station on winamp I have lyrics... Don't know if this problem is caused by this plugin or shoutcast.
It seems that plugin tries searching by the station name, not by the title of the song.
Sons Too Much Of A Good Thing lyrics - search string from winamp
lyrics "RadioTUT" by "Sons - Too Much Of A Good Thing" - search string by this plugin
@awkwardsmile this only saves the lyrics to the Songbird database, not the file, and it won't until this bug is fixed http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=9091
@alest I've never used shoutcast so I don't know how it handles things, I plan on looking into this sometime, but its a little ways down the list at the moment.
Ok, thank you.
Just one more thing about lyrics from shoutcast. This addon doesn't reload title information from the stream. Radio casts another song but I see title of the first one, that was played when I pushed play button.
I have a workaround for the question: "How do I delete lyrics if I accidentally saved the wrong ones?"
Just delete the songs that has been played since the option "Save alwas" has been activated, then, look again for your media, play it, and enjoy the correct lyrics.
The bad news are: you will lost metada that is not saved in the song-file.
Ups! with "delete the songs" I refer to delete them from the Songbird's Music Library, not from file system.
great addon, just what i needed. thx!
Hello!
Great addon I use it pretty much ALWAYS. That's why I stumbled into a little bug. It seems that when you get an error while fetching the lyrics you open too many sql connectors to the lyrics wiki server and the plugins displays the error. It would seem important to me that those errors come back as no lyrics found instead of showing the error on the lyrics pane. This is what i got while retrieving several songs from an album called "Fantasia O Realidad" from artist "Alex Ubago".

This is the only almbum so far that i got this problem with.
On a lighter note, have you considered using the eyeD3 library to embedd the lyrics into the file. Its a linux package and I beleve it can also be installed in windows, not so sure about mac.
this is the future of music and the killer feature over itunes if you ask me. however, i'd love to read the lyrics on my ipod for which i would need to save them in the metatag of the song. any idea?
how can I save the lyrics I find from internet , there is no text input anything. also save lyrics into mp3 file would be great.
I think if you are already playing a song and dont have this panel open, then open it, it doesnt check for meta data for the currently playing song. Would be handy if you could add a check there for people who like to switch around there panels. Awesome addon thanks.
Wooo yah! Last update is great! Especially the ability for feather-developers to create a css is perfect! I wish more add-on developers would add this feature. I hope some will follow your example! Thanks a lot!
@cellarmation that was added with the newest version, you do have to have some of the latest nightlies.
@rcw003
You can know delete the YABS style from your list. I put the lyricmaster.css in the last update of my skin, an additional Style could be confusing... Thanks!
there is a bug in the new version of this bug. It's ment to write the lyrics to the ID3 of the file with the latest nightly build of Songbird, but it doesn't. Even the batch process doesn't does this. But, the info is saved in the database, and to make it saved on the ID3 tag, the metadata has to be edited, in other words, if the lyrics have been saved, to actually save them inside the ID3, the lyrics have to be edited from the lyrics tab in the metadata, at least a letter erase, and then the lyrics is saved inside the ID3. I hope you can fix this, this is an awesome add-on
@fcastillo looking at this, will try to get this fixed this weekend.
Hey, I know this is probably very obvious but bare with me. So i just downloaded this add-on, and wanted to hide it for a few moments. But after hiding it, I can't seem to find how to bring it back up. Any help would be sweet.
You can do either go to view, then show right side bar, or if you are using some of the newer nightlies, down in the lower right corner you should see a rectangle with an arrow pointing to the left, click on that, and that should bring it into view again.
so, either I'm an unobservant idiot, or this add-on has compatibility issues with Linux, because the only thing I can seem to do, is view lyrics. when I go to the Metadata editor, there is no lyrics tab, and I can't find anything relating to LyricMaster, except for the options.
I just noticed the window in the screenshots looks exactly like my Emerald theme.
I must be an unobservant idiot. -_-
I agree with Tuche, please ad support for songs on Radio
I love this pluging
Kisses
@tacticalbread What version of Songbird are you using? This addon was developed and used by me in Ubuntu 8.04, so I don't think Linux is the issue
@lonbluster SHOUTcast support will come eventually, but I first need to get better at understanding it, as I never use it myself.
@fcastillo 1.5.1.0 now writes to the ID3 tag.
I'm using Songbird 0.7.0, on Ubuntu. when I tested it I was 8.04, and now I'm on 8.10.
is there a newer Songbird version?
@tacticalbread A few internal things are switching with the release of 1.0, The current version of Lyricmaster, makes everything ready do go for the new release that should be happening sometime soon. Until then you can play around with the most recent nightlies.
@rcw003
can you set minVersion to 1.0.0rc1 at least ?
When LyricMaster is unable to find Lyrics, I like that it gives you a link to a google search, is there any way that I can add the lyrics so that it can find them next time?
@snorgplat You can right click on the track that doesn't have Lyrics in the library and chose "edit metadata" then go to the Lyrics tab, and there you can paste or type in any lyrics that can't be retrieved.
With the release of 1.0RC1, lyricsmaster seems to "squash" the lines together instead of separating them as before, making one gigantic paragraph. Eye strain! In addition, it does this:
"I heard this old story beforeWhere the people keep on killing for the metaphorsBut don't leave much up to the imaginationSo I wanna give this imagery backBut...." See how where there used to be line gaps, now the words are actually pushed together because there was no space added?.... Alright, enough with the whining. That's the problem I'm getting.
**Edit**: I have found this problem is only occurring with lyrics that have been saved *before* the switch to 1.0RC1. I bet this could be solved by deleting the previously saved lyrics. If it can be solved on your end go ahead, but I will start re-retrieving them now myself, but just for the heads up.
Confirmed: Reentering the lyrics solves the problem
this is worthless! im removing this. it doesnt allow me to add lyrics when it cant find any and when it does find them, the're the wrong words!
there's no point to have this when it gives me the wrong words.
With the 1.5.1 release using 1.0 RC1 on Windows, the add-on is not able to fetch lyrics embedded in the id3 (USLT section of the id3 tag). However, the same MP3 using the linux version of Songbird is able to read the embedded lyrics.
Jeremys18 - Actually, it does. Right click the song you want to change the lyrics of, or shift-click to select many. Then click "Edit Metadata" and go to the lyrics tab. Insert your lyrics, and press ok...
I'm having a problem, I'm afraid -- when I right-click a song, and choose to edit metadata, there *is* no lyrics tab. Here's a screenshot. I've tried changing the feather back to the default, with no effect. Am I missing something? Or is there maybe a key combination that would bring up this so-elusive lyrics tab? I'd really like to be able to correct and add lyrics.
This really is a great extension, rcw003. Thanks!
My question for you: I have some obscure artists that don't have lyrics available. I realize their lyrics could be added by me to the metadata file, but I would like for their lyrics to also be available to other people. So, where is the database that you pull lyrics from and how can I add to that database? Thanks!
@jeremys18 if the lyrics are wrong you can also go into preferences and switch which internet server LM pulls from.
@mettkea I'm checking into if this a bug on my end or a Songbird bug.
@Cairsten what version of Songbird and LyricMaster are you using?
@eyeverve I believe you can submit lyrics to the lyricwiki.org which is one of the options to have lyrics pulled from, lyricpugin.com doesn't have an option to submit from the web that I'm aware of.
@xplosneer before Songbird 1.0 there were some issues where it would remove the new lines from blocks of text, that might be what you were running into.
Having the same problem as Cairsten: No Lyricstab in Editor.
I use Songbird 0.7.0 and Lyricsmaster 1.3.0.1 under Ubuntu which are IMO the most recent versions available.
@tshack The Lyrics tab in the Trackeditor is only available if you use Songird 1.0 (or Release Canidate 1 or higher) and LyricMaster 1.5, unfortunately version 1.5 is not backwards compatible with older versions of Songbird.
It would be great if it work with shout cast
The plugin won't extract lyrics from metadata nor save lyrics to them for m4a files.
I forgot to say that it worked fine for mp3, thanks.
Hi,
I think I have found a bug. Every time a song changes, the program opens and focuses on the Songbird window. At first I thought I had isolated this problem to SongSnarl, but a recheck today concluded that it's LyricMaster (I disabled the add-ons and ran them one by one). It's pretty annoying when you e.g. are writing an article in Word and the usually minimized Songbird window pops up every three minutes or so. Please tend to this bug, otherwise it's a great add-on :)
[I've noticed the same issue as Lakrits.]
This add-on is the main reason I'm now using Songbird as my main media player. Having them save-able, editable, displayed in a right column where both they and the main library list are shown side-by-side--all of this makes so much sense.
I also love the new icon indicating which songs already have saved lyrics; smart!
I'm thankful that you keep fine tuning features, creating new ones, and in general making yours the single most useful add-on in Songbird!
Great job man!
@Lakrits & hi9 - Turn off your notifications in the preferences for both Saving Lyrics and Notification of no lyrics, and let me know if that stops it, It did on my machine, want to make sure that works to implement a fix.
@hi9 Thanks for the compliments!
@rcw003: Yep, it was the notifications by LyricMaster that caused the pop-ups.
Okay, I turned off notifications. I'll try to report back in the next day or two.
Hi!!

I aprecciate the LyricMaster enhancements very much, thank you!!
I'm having a problem with the text formatting though (no tabs/paragraphs, etc). This is what it looks like:
It only happens when the lyric is authomatically fetched from the web. If i right click in order to edit the metadata, and choose to fetch the lyric from the lyricMaster tab, the text config will be just fine.
Maybe it has something to do with the "none" style thing.
Also, i'd like to know where is lyricmaster.css file alocated so that i could edit my own personal style.
thankx in advance
--> i mean is it possible to do that?? (without having nothing to do with the feather at all - what if i just wanted my own style sheet added to the list?)
What server are you pulling the lyrics from lyricwiki or lyricplugin?
What version of Songbird and LyricMaster and Operating System are you using?
I haven't seen any of those issues at all and I've spent a lot of time pulling from both servers. What do you have your notification preferences set for saving lyrics Don't ask/Don't Save, Prompt, or Always save?
An example of the lyricmaster.css file is in the help documentation. If you are a feather developer it goes in the base of the skin directory. I would imagine you can search your Songbird install directory and fine the current feather/skin folder and put it there for testing.
lyricwiki, SB 1.0 RC2, 1.6.0.0, Vista Ultimate, Always save/Never ask;
I'm not a feather developer and i don't even know code, but i just thought it would be cool if could add my own style sheet ( but if that meant messing with the feather code, then it would be a no hehe. i dont' speak "codeish", only css...)
I will check the always save part of the code.
well, what I meant to say was if you wanted to try your hand at your lyricmaster.css, you could find your skin folder in your songbird install, and add the lyricmaster.css to that folder to try and switch LyricMaster to [Current Feather]. On another note, feather development is 90% css development :)
Aw Seriously? I thought it was like rocket science or something... :-D
I'll definetely give it a try later!!
Thank you!
Hi rcw003
I've found a strange behavior: (have SB 1.0RC3 and LM 0.6.0.0 on a Ubuntu 8.10 64bit)
If a song terminates and the next one starts, the plugin works as expected. When I doubleclick a song or click "next" to start a song LyricMaster displays the "nothing play" text.
Thanks for developping such a great feature!
Have a screenshot for you as well ;-)
http://img235.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lmye8.png
@tshack this appears to be a Songbird RC3 issue http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=13872
OK, I think I may have found a serious bug, but first, let me THANK YOU so much for making this extension. I learned of and installed Songbird just 2 days ago and went through and fixed up most of my metadata (10,000+ songs, pshew...) Then, yesterday, I stumbled upon this extension. Needless to say, it makes this the best media player/music manager/metadata editor. It just makes it feel complete! If this extension was not here, I would have only used Songbird to fix up my metadata. So congrats are in order. So now to my 'critiques'.
The serious bug I found. It occurs when I highlight text in the LyricMaster pane to copy it, but leave the text highlighted. The song will end and try to proceed to the next song, but hangup, completely locking Songbird up. I actually found this error while writing a post about 20 minutes ago.
On the topic of highlighting and copying text from the lyrics pane. I know that I can highlight all the text I want and press control+c, but is there a way that you could add a right-click feature that would utilize functions such as 'select all', 'copy text', and anything that you think would be important (like maybe reload lyrics just in case it loaded the wrong ones or the metadata has the wrong ones).
Also, if there was a way that we could change text sizes and fonts in the options, that would be icing on the cake. Being able to select sizes for 'song name', 'artist', and for 'album' would be great as well. On that thought, having the option to select which categories get displayed above the lyrics would be quite useful since Songbird already displays the same data just above the song progress bar (I'm a stickler for redundant data, it just makes it seem more cluttered that what it actually is).
The next is just a question. I read all of the posts before posting, to see what people have said so I didn't become a redundant and therefore useless post. Well, I read that there is supposed to be an icon by songs that have lyrics already downloaded and saved. I know that a good deal of certain songs have lyrics (thanks totally to your extension), but I don't see any icon. Not really a major problem, but thought you may want to know.
Lastly, I am glad to see that 'tshack' was having the same problem that I was, I suppose that I will wait until the next update.
I have Songbird 1.0.0rc3, Build 856 (20081120214438) with LyricMaster 1.6.0.0 running on Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3
I want to end by saying that I am not a programmer, so I don't know if any of these changes can be included in future releases, but I figure that its worth a try to give you suggestions to help you polish an already great extension.
Thanks for your time and I apologize for such a long post! Keep up the AMAZING work!
UPDATE - I found out how to get the icon. I just had my side bar pulled over too far and it covered up the 'lyrics' category.
Highlighting the text and proceeding to the next song works fine on my machine: WinXP Home SP3, Songbird 1.0.0rc3, Build 856 (20081120214438). Maybe it's just on your PC, ZSchrink?
Nice Addon, though! The only one i had installed without interruption.
I got an annoying bug since version 1.6:
When a song changes automatic (because the previous song has ended) then it displays the lyric. Otherwise, if a song is played because of my interaction (double clicking a song, skipping a song, ...) then it states 'nothing playing'...
I have songbird 1.0.0 rc3 and the latest version of lyricmaster
I am having the same problem as seba with songbird 1.0.0rc3 and LyricMaster 1.6.0.0. Moreover, the whole GUI hangs up if I change multiple songs by double clicking in quick succession.
One more thing, if I switch to another display pane and come back to lyric master it shows the lyrics again.
However, apparently the bug, as rcw003 mentioned, will be fixed in songbird 1.0.0rc4.
It could just be my machine, regarding the freezing up problem. Yesterday I repeated it three times in a row, but now I can't get it to do it AT ALL. So, I'm not sure what happened. My best guess is that the virus scan I did this morning and the subsequent reboot had something to do with fixing it. Not sure.
I've run into a problem on RC3, so I don't know if it holds true for older builds of Songbird. It works flawlessly if I let songs play fully, and the lyrics will load as soon as one song ends and the next song begins, as it should. However, if I do not finish listening to the current song and instead click next or choose a new song midway through the current song LyricsMaster shows "Nothing playing". I have to hide LyricsMaster and make it reshow in order to have it display the lyrics of the new song I have chosen, when it really should be showing the lyrics of the new song without me having to do that. Any idea what could be the problem, whether it is a problem isolated to my Songbird, and whether this happened on older builds of Songbird?
I saw just now that the bug I just posted has already been mentioned above, woops. Sorry. Anyways, I guess I'm just another case of the same bug.
