as i sort the artists alphabetically by their last name, i’d REALLY love to see lyricmaster find the lyrics for “johnson, jack – on and on” – as it already does for “jack johnson – on and on”.
generally spoken: ignore punctiation, show hits that match any combination of the searchterms. that would make lyricmaster better than any add-on for any other mediaplayer.

great piece of work, but i’d love to see the lyrics search improved: as i sort my music by the artist’s last name (so the structure is ‘last name, first name’ or ‘band name, the’ etc.) i don’t get any results for the lyric search; if there was an option to display hits that match any combination of the search terms (regardless of punctuation and order of these terms), this add-on would be awesome!

Firstly, thanks for a great add on, works fine for me so far, grabs all the lyrics from the songs I’ve thrown at it. However, I stupidly right clicked the panel and closed it, and now I can’t get the LyricMaster panel to show again. I know there is going to be a stupidly easy way to get it back, but my silly brain can’t find an option. Please help. x

Great add-on so far.

The sidebar doesn't adjust in to height of the window. I have a resolution of 1024x768. But I have to scroll to see the bottom of the text box and then again with the inner scroll bar to see all the content.

great add on but i didn't know that clicking the yes button meant that it saved it to the database and went and clicked yes to almost every song i've played so far and now only the songs that i clicked yes to have lyrics displayed. how exactly do i undo this so it searches the internet and retrieves lyrics to my songs?

Nice and handy one! I like it. However, it has a problem getting lyrics for songs with Chinese title. It works fine for Chinese songs in English titles, though. I presume it also happens to other languages that does not use the western characters. Please fix this so more people can enjoy this plugin. =) Thanks a lot for the plugin.

I think the problem is that it reads the radio name(Stream Name) instead of reading the comments(Radio Comments) where the artist/song name is displayed !

ok, i have a second question. i'm listening to a cd and lyricmaster downloaded faulty lyrics for a song. the song is led zeppelin's "in my time of dying" which definitely has words, but all lyricmaster says is "led zeppelin lyrics." all the rest of the songs pull the correct lyrics just fine, so i know it works.

how do i delete the field so that it can try again to pull up the correct lyrics? i don't see a way to do this, is it a permanent error?

I would really like to see the ability to edit the lyrics and change the search query. I save named like "The Beatles" as "Beatles, The" and this prevents the plugin from finding lyrics to many songs. Other times the lyrics are off or formatted poorly and I would like to edit it.

Why plugin doesn't show lyrics from shoutcast? When I listen the same station on winamp I have lyrics... Don't know if this problem is caused by this plugin or shoutcast.

Just one more thing about lyrics from shoutcast. This addon doesn't reload title information from the stream. Radio casts another song but I see title of the first one, that was played when I pushed play button.

I have a workaround for the question: "How do I delete lyrics if I accidentally saved the wrong ones?"

Just delete the songs that has been played since the option "Save alwas" has been activated, then, look again for your media, play it, and enjoy the correct lyrics.

The bad news are: you will lost metada that is not saved in the song-file.

Great addon I use it pretty much ALWAYS. That's why I stumbled into a little bug. It seems that when you get an error while fetching the lyrics you open too many sql connectors to the lyrics wiki server and the plugins displays the error. It would seem important to me that those errors come back as no lyrics found instead of showing the error on the lyrics pane. This is what i got while retrieving several songs from an album called "Fantasia O Realidad" from artist "Alex Ubago".

I think if you are already playing a song and dont have this panel open, then open it, it doesnt check for meta data for the currently playing song. Would be handy if you could add a check there for people who like to switch around there panels. Awesome addon thanks.

there is a bug in the new version of this bug. It's ment to write the lyrics to the ID3 of the file with the latest nightly build of Songbird, but it doesn't. Even the batch process doesn't does this. But, the info is saved in the database, and to make it saved on the ID3 tag, the metadata has to be edited, in other words, if the lyrics have been saved, to actually save them inside the ID3, the lyrics have to be edited from the lyrics tab in the metadata, at least a letter erase, and then the lyrics is saved inside the ID3. I hope you can fix this, this is an awesome add-on

so, either I'm an unobservant idiot, or this add-on has compatibility issues with Linux, because the only thing I can seem to do, is view lyrics. when I go to the Metadata editor, there is no lyrics tab, and I can't find anything relating to LyricMaster, except for the options.

When LyricMaster is unable to find Lyrics, I like that it gives you a link to a google search, is there any way that I can add the lyrics so that it can find them next time?

With the release of 1.0RC1, lyricsmaster seems to "squash" the lines together instead of separating them as before, making one gigantic paragraph. Eye strain! In addition, it does this:
"I heard this old story beforeWhere the people keep on killing for the metaphorsBut don't leave much up to the imaginationSo I wanna give this imagery backBut...." See how where there used to be line gaps, now the words are actually pushed together because there was no space added?.... Alright, enough with the whining. That's the problem I'm getting.

**Edit**: I have found this problem is only occurring with lyrics that have been saved *before* the switch to 1.0RC1. I bet this could be solved by deleting the previously saved lyrics. If it can be solved on your end go ahead, but I will start re-retrieving them now myself, but just for the heads up.

With the 1.5.1 release using 1.0 RC1 on Windows, the add-on is not able to fetch lyrics embedded in the id3 (USLT section of the id3 tag). However, the same MP3 using the linux version of Songbird is able to read the embedded lyrics.

Jeremys18 - Actually, it does. Right click the song you want to change the lyrics of, or shift-click to select many. Then click "Edit Metadata" and go to the lyrics tab. Insert your lyrics, and press ok...

I'm having a problem, I'm afraid -- when I right-click a song, and choose to edit metadata, there *is* no lyrics tab. Here's a screenshot. I've tried changing the feather back to the default, with no effect. Am I missing something? Or is there maybe a key combination that would bring up this so-elusive lyrics tab? I'd really like to be able to correct and add lyrics.

I think I have found a bug. Every time a song changes, the program opens and focuses on the Songbird window. At first I thought I had isolated this problem to SongSnarl, but a recheck today concluded that it's LyricMaster (I disabled the add-ons and ran them one by one). It's pretty annoying when you e.g. are writing an article in Word and the usually minimized Songbird window pops up every three minutes or so. Please tend to this bug, otherwise it's a great add-on :)

[I've noticed the same issue as Lakrits.]

This add-on is the main reason I'm now using Songbird as my main media player. Having them save-able, editable, displayed in a right column where both they and the main library list are shown side-by-side--all of this makes so much sense.

I also love the new icon indicating which songs already have saved lyrics; smart!

I'm thankful that you keep fine tuning features, creating new ones, and in general making yours the single most useful add-on in Songbird!

I'm having a problem with the text formatting though (no tabs/paragraphs, etc). This is what it looks like:

It only happens when the lyric is authomatically fetched from the web. If i right click in order to edit the metadata, and choose to fetch the lyric from the lyricMaster tab, the text config will be just fine.
Maybe it has something to do with the "none" style thing.
Also, i'd like to know where is lyricmaster.css file alocated so that i could edit my own personal style.

I've found a strange behavior: (have SB 1.0RC3 and LM 0.6.0.0 on a Ubuntu 8.10 64bit)

If a song terminates and the next one starts, the plugin works as expected. When I doubleclick a song or click "next" to start a song LyricMaster displays the "nothing play" text.

OK, I think I may have found a serious bug, but first, let me THANK YOU so much for making this extension. I learned of and installed Songbird just 2 days ago and went through and fixed up most of my metadata (10,000+ songs, pshew...) Then, yesterday, I stumbled upon this extension. Needless to say, it makes this the best media player/music manager/metadata editor. It just makes it feel complete! If this extension was not here, I would have only used Songbird to fix up my metadata. So congrats are in order. So now to my 'critiques'.

The serious bug I found. It occurs when I highlight text in the LyricMaster pane to copy it, but leave the text highlighted. The song will end and try to proceed to the next song, but hangup, completely locking Songbird up. I actually found this error while writing a post about 20 minutes ago.

On the topic of highlighting and copying text from the lyrics pane. I know that I can highlight all the text I want and press control+c, but is there a way that you could add a right-click feature that would utilize functions such as 'select all', 'copy text', and anything that you think would be important (like maybe reload lyrics just in case it loaded the wrong ones or the metadata has the wrong ones).

Also, if there was a way that we could change text sizes and fonts in the options, that would be icing on the cake. Being able to select sizes for 'song name', 'artist', and for 'album' would be great as well. On that thought, having the option to select which categories get displayed above the lyrics would be quite useful since Songbird already displays the same data just above the song progress bar (I'm a stickler for redundant data, it just makes it seem more cluttered that what it actually is).

The next is just a question. I read all of the posts before posting, to see what people have said so I didn't become a redundant and therefore useless post. Well, I read that there is supposed to be an icon by songs that have lyrics already downloaded and saved. I know that a good deal of certain songs have lyrics (thanks totally to your extension), but I don't see any icon. Not really a major problem, but thought you may want to know.

Lastly, I am glad to see that 'tshack' was having the same problem that I was, I suppose that I will wait until the next update.

I got an annoying bug since version 1.6:
When a song changes automatic (because the previous song has ended) then it displays the lyric. Otherwise, if a song is played because of my interaction (double clicking a song, skipping a song, ...) then it states 'nothing playing'...

It could just be my machine, regarding the freezing up problem. Yesterday I repeated it three times in a row, but now I can't get it to do it AT ALL. So, I'm not sure what happened. My best guess is that the virus scan I did this morning and the subsequent reboot had something to do with fixing it. Not sure.

I've run into a problem on RC3, so I don't know if it holds true for older builds of Songbird. It works flawlessly if I let songs play fully, and the lyrics will load as soon as one song ends and the next song begins, as it should. However, if I do not finish listening to the current song and instead click next or choose a new song midway through the current song LyricsMaster shows "Nothing playing". I have to hide LyricsMaster and make it reshow in order to have it display the lyrics of the new song I have chosen, when it really should be showing the lyrics of the new song without me having to do that. Any idea what could be the problem, whether it is a problem isolated to my Songbird, and whether this happened on older builds of Songbird?

The workaround I found is to just drag the progress bar at the bottom to the end instead of clicking next track.

@Olivia- I had a similar problem when I upgraded to RC1(check above your post in the comments). The fix is to simply delete and refetch all the lyrics, but it's easy, just use the group feature under Edit Metadata.

@rcw003- Was having a similar problem with the "Nothing Playing" text. Thanks for the heads up, I'll just live with it until RC4.

I figured out a way to fix the "nothing playing" problem mentioned by Seba, viper and shufan.

After you select a new song (by double-clicking or clicking next or what have you) if you collapse the LyricMaster pane and bring it back up with the correct lyrics It's pretty easy to do if you use the little arrow on the bottom-right of the pane.

It looks like LyricMaster will not search for lyrics embedded in MP3 files' metadata. I installed Songbird (1.0 RC3, then upgraded today to 1.0.0) on my computer at work, which has no music files on its hard drive and therefore has an empty Songbird library. When I go to work, I connect my iPod to the computer, launch Songbird, and wait for Songbird to mount the device. Then I go to a playlist on the iPod (under the iPod node in Songbird) and have Songbird play song files directly from the iPod (all MP3 files, most with lyrics embedded in id3v2 metadata).

Today I installed the LyricMaster 1.6.0.0 add-on, and was surprised that it wasn't displaying the lyrics embedded in any of the MP3 files -- just song title, artist, and album. After a bit of time, LyricMaster then displayed lyrics it had retrieved from LyricsPlugin.com or LyricWiki.org (with a button allowing me to save them).

I would suggest you modify LyricMaster so that, when lyrics are missing from the Songbird database, it first search the song file's metadata for lyrics. If no lyrics are found there, then it should go to the Internet databases to search for them.

One problem though... When I click yes to save lyrics to id3, there is a stuttering in the song, or sometimes even locks up completely with static. Perhaps you can alter the way it stores the lyrics to not interfere with playback.

LyricMaster should 1.) check if the user already has set a LM-Skin for this feather, then 2.) check if a lyricsmaster.css is available for this feather, and only if both are false, then it should 3.) select the [no skin] options and use the html.css.

Wonderful addon. However, can you adjust it so it stops hijacking the playlists with its lyric markers column? I can uncheck it but it just comes back the next time i start up songbird and it is very annoying.

And maybe adding the ability to control the text font/color/size would be cool, because the current text size is too big for my taste, and i have to make songbird way too wide in order to be able to make the lyrics look correctly formatted.

Fantastic addon though. very handy.

I'm still having trouble with the lyrics text formatting. But since no one else seems to have that same problem, i believe it must be something with my computer specifically. In case i find out anything new i'll let you know (it's a minor problem, anyways).

I just had an idea about a new add-on, based on LyricMaster. Only it would retrieve guitar tablatures instead of lyrics. Something like "TablatureMaster". I don't play any instrument myself, but my Dad has a band, and from watching him looking for tabs all the time i thought that might be something users would aprecciate; and i guess it' would be quite an original add-on because, i might be wrong, but i don't think something like it was ever made.
So... What do you think? Is it possible? Hopefully

I installed Lyric Master and it shows up as an option in the notifications but I can't get any lyrics. I went into options and set them as needed but when I click the retrieve lyrics for all the songs in your library button, it doesnt work. Any ideas???

I've just upgraded to 1.0.0 and installed LyricMaster 1.6.1.0 for the first time. LyricMaster is showing no lyrics found. Below the "No Lyrics Found" / Web Search box, the song title is listed, then "untitled" followed by the Artist. The last line shows the album name.

Hi, Your add-on is fantastic really, however I think there's a problem with your latest version. I'm on Ubunto 8.10 and Songbird 1.0.0 and the add on just stopped searching lyrics when I upgraded. I had to downgrade and now everything is good again. Anyways, great job again.

LyricMaster Aggregator rocks, never seen something like that before. And the results seem reliable at first glance! However, to make sure, it should have controls for playing each of the songs that lyrics were found for, to confirm the lyrics before saving (I selected all my library to fetch lyrics for).

@rcw003 Regarding the "no lyrics found" / "undefined" error, my entire collection is tagged with ID3v1.1, with no non-standard, english characters. I thought it might be a ID3v1.x tagging issue, so I tagged a test file with ID3v2.x, and the same "undefined" line pops up with "no lyrics found". Which of the tag fields does LyricMaster base its search on? Could I just be missing an appropriate field?

Is it possible to make the addon retrieve lyrics for songs who are badly named / no metadata? For example aerosmith & run dmc - walk this way.mp3, this would not give a result with the addon.

Just a reminder that the focus-stealing issue with notifications reported by Lakrits and hi9 a little while ago is still present and still a bit annoying. However, I feel compelled to add that this is the only problem I have seen with this add-on and it isn't even close to enough to make me stop using it or recommending it (or even to make me turn off notifications to make it stop); you've done a brilliant job, please keep up the good work.

A majority of my songs are titled similarly to "Watch Out (feat. Akon, Styles P, Fat Joe, Rick Ross)." LyricMaster will not find the lyrics for most songs in this format unless I remove the (feat. Akon, Styles P, Fat Joe, Rick Ross) from the title of the song. Is there anyway the search can be less strict to allow titles like this to return the intended lyrics?

This is a great add-on, however there is a bug that I continually run into regarding saving the lyrics. Whenever the option to save lyrics pops up and I click it, it kills the song I am currently playing and skips onto the next. My library consists mostly of FLAC encoded music and I presume it is an issue that arises from reading and writing the same file. This is on songbird 1.0 in Vista 64.

Otherwise, great little addon.

Think it was better before the songbird update. The text was divided but now it's just one big text and it is kinda difficult to both read and see the text.

I just wanted to state the same thing Xylo did. The Feather of my Songbird is black - at first I thought the lyricsmaster didn't work until I came up with Strg+a.. It'd be great, if one could change the font colour.

Lyricmaster only works if it is open before the song starts playing. If the song is playing, then I open lyricmaster (as I often do if I am curious about what someone is saying), the lyrics pane is blank ("refresh lyrics" doesn't work). Am I doing something wrong or is it normal to have to hit the back arrow key to restart the song just to see the lyrics for it?

Like the app just one suggestion? Maybe an auto-scroller to move down the page at a set speed so whole set of lyrics can be seen over course of song. The speed could be user changable. They have something exactly like this on ultimate-guitar.com for guitar tabs.

I suppose u may even be able to do something fancy and have it look at the length of the song and scroll at a speed which will show all of the lyrics in the song period. I dont know anything about programming just an idea :)

The manually loading ("refresh Lyrics") does not work, if I started playing the song before i opened the Lyrics-Pane. Sadly, that's my most common use: I'm listening to songs, then i wonder about the lyrics and want to take a look at it. I open the LyricMaster-pane and ... nothing is displayed :-( And there is no way to receive the lyrics, now. The only thing I can do is, to leave the pane open and to restart the song. Then LyricMaster get the lyrics. Please change this behaviour, it is really annoying! It would be nice, if I could receive the lyrics for the currently played song just by opening the pane, without the need to restart the song (and, if possible, without additional clicks).

I have the same problem as atreiu and in addition to that bug, when you're listening to a song and hide the pane and then show it again, nothing is shown, and the refresh option from the right click menu doesn't work. I have to leave the pane open and re-start the song. It's really annoying, really...
Another thing I suggest is that in the right click menu, there should be an option to change from servers. Sometimes lyrics are not found in one server, and going all the way to the preferences of the add-on to change the servers is annoying too. An option in the right click menu that change the servers and auto refreshes to show the new result from the new server would be really nice.

oh, another thing.... the pane should hide automatically when a new tab is open to browse. Exactly as the mashTape add-on does. It hides when it's switch to another tab, and when you go to the library, it's brought back up

I read that there will not be support for .lrc files in this plugin.

I find this feature really, REALLY interesting, because I have a (cheap) mp3 player that can read these files, so I can watch the lyrics of any song wherever I go! This is specially great when you are learning new languages :)

So, I was thinking of something like, after playing the songs in computer, I could search in a cache folder to retrieve the .lrc files and copy them to my mp3 player.

RCW003, do you know any valid songbird plugin for this? In windows the application for this is "minilyrics". Does somebody know how to make it work under Linux?

At the moment I only found an application for audacious (Lyriczilla), but it doesn't retrieve many songs, just the most famous ones (and very few german songs).

that bug I told a couple of weeks ago (LyricsMaster stopped retrieving lyrics) just stopped. Now everything is good.

May I suggest that this plugin search on both websites (lyricwiki and lyricsplugin) instead of having to choose from either one of them because sometimes there are lyrics in one that there are not on the other.

I really like this plugin, but it doesn't work with shoutcast-streams. When I listen to an internet radio it tries to find lyrics for the radio itself, not for the song thats playing.
It'd be really nice if someone would fix this.

This is a great add on. The only thing I could ask for is if you could make it automatically scroll to the top of the lyrics when a new song is played. I scroll down to read the lyrics whilst listening to the song, then the next song comes on and I have to scroll up manually.

It isn't anything big, I know, and it's just me being lazy, but it might be something you could take into consideration. =]

When you are in mini-player and open up to main-player the lyricsmaster sidebar is empty until you change songs. Something that can be fixed?

I'm Rodolfo there, so the last comment is mine. Basically the problem is just with remote lyrics, with local ones refresh works, so you can fetch the lyrics from the metadata editor and then do a refresh in the lyricmaster pane.

Great extension! One suggestion would be to allow lyrics to be fetched while a song is playing, instead of just when a new song starts. To save screen real estate, I often have the right pane closed, and open it up in the middle of song, but I have to restart the song to get the option to add the lyrics. Anyway, thanks for your work on this.

Lyricmaster causes Song Bird to popup and become the active window when every new song begins. This can get annoying when you are trying to do work on something else on the computer.

I have a problem, though...

I'm running Songbird 1.0.0, Build 860 (20081124135419) and iTunes 8.0.2.20 on Windows XP SP2

LyricsMaster works fine when I ask it to fetch the lyrics of a song, but I'm still using iTunes to update my iPod (mainly because it handles podcasts better than Songbird). I can read the lyrics in iTunes (the ones that were fetched by LyricsMaster), but they don't show up on my iPod (it's possible to see the title of the song, nothing else).

Also, when I try to erase the lyrics in iTunes, they simply won't disappear! It's necessary to go back to Songbird and delete the lyrics there.

I am having the same exact problem as crc, my lyrics keep coming up as "undefined [artist]" when it tries to search for lyrics. I've tried completely uninstalling songbird and reinstalling, and it still doesn't find lyrics for the same songs. I've tried uninstalling all of my other add-ons, too, and nothing happens. Anyone have any idea?

Oh, and I'm also having trouble with the naming scheme working. I set it to "Doe, John" because some of my artists (like "The Offspring") are named like that with commas. This used to work, but decided to stop working for some reason.

One problem I've seen. Here is the scenario...when you have the LyricMaster notifications enabled, Songbird minimized, and you hit a global hotkey for next track for example. LyricMaster opens Songbird and gives it focus. If Songbird is minimized it shouldn't do that (regardless of how you have the LyricMaster options set).

The only workaround is to turn LyricMaster to Never Save/Never Ask and No when no lyrics are found. Sucks to have to switch that off and on all the time.

Bug: if you right-click and choose "Metadata Editor", it opens the metadata editor for the last track it edited, not the currently displayed/playing track. You have to edit the data of a random track from the library and then come back to LyricMaster before they are in sync.

I'm very lucky that LyricMaster has been created by you, because the functionality is super!
I've translated the extension (newest version 1.6.1.1) completely into German, including the help files, but I don't know how to send the translated local files to you.
At Babelzilla, there's already somebody translating LyricMaster 1.6.1.0 to German, but his activity is quite low, so I tried to become translator, but the server does not allow a second one.
The translated add-on is tested by me in German language and works confidently as you deleted some translations who not had been completed in the newest version.
Perhaps you could upload LyricMaster 1.6.1.1 to Babelzilla and I upload the files there or post
a comment here, that you're interested in a German translation and I upload the files to my server and you can download them there.

This addon is really fricking sweet, just two suggestions:

1) As others mentioned, having the lyrics embedded into the song file so that they sync with other devices.

2) If the song title in lyricmaster linked to the page where the lyrics were retreived it'd be great. That would make it easy to share with friends!

Great add on, but I seem to have a little problem : lyrics don't refresh when right-clicking on the pane and clicking on "refresh lyrics".

It appear when I select another feature than LyricMaster on the right pane, and I select back LyrciMaster. Then there are no more lyrics on the pane for the song playing. And refreshing it by right-clicking doesn't make lyrics appear back.
I guess it isn't a common behaviour of this extension ?

I just found out a very little bug. Almost insignificant but I would be happy if it could be addressed :)
This addons enables a new column called "Lyrics" appears in the main window.

Even if you turn it off, sometimes it just turns on again, and it does that each time you open Songbird again, and in some other random times.

I have a problem with Songbird maximizing and jumping in front of other windows every time the song changes. I (and others from a bit of searching) have nailed this down to happening when LyricMaster is loaded into a pane. LyricMaster is one of the best reasons to use Songbird, but this really detracts from it's usefulness. Can anything be done about this?

um, i might be an idiot but when you can't fetch the lyrics from the metadata editor and you have to use the web... how do you get those lyrics to save? the metadata editor doesn't let you highlight it anymore once i've searched the web. i know i'm probably missing something really stupid. thanks if anyone can help.

No icon problem:
 I have hundreds, maybe thousands, of tracks with lyrics from when I was using iTunes/MP3Tag etc to manage my mp3s but only some of those with lyrics added in Songbird (with this app) appear with an icon. I say some as I've added, or tried to re-add lyrics to a bunch of albums but not all of the tracks are showing as having lyrics (but if you edit the tag then they're quite clearly there). And it's not 'cos I've hidden the field!

Great add-on.

Note: the "none" and "current feather" views don't work for me now. In "none" the top half of the pane is a dark, barely opaque gray and the bottom half is light gray. Sometimes lyrics appear, sometimes not. Even for the same song played minutes apart. "Current feather" is just totally black. "None" was working fine the last time I booted songbird - just yesterday I think. Reboots of songbird didn't help.

I've switched to rubberducky, it and the rest of the views seem to work fine. Only the above seemed to have freaked out.

I have three feature requests.

1)
Most of my mp3 already have lyrics on them and when my Internet connection is down LyricMaster should be able to use those lyrics instead of pulling from the web. Perhaps LyricsMaster needs to check the ID3 tag before it bothers to do a fetch just in case lyrics are already present in the tag.

2)
It would be nice to have an input box where I can input a different song name or perhaps spell the song in a different way.

3)
I am always trying to find the correct font size that better matches. So perhaps a font option would be nice.

I have found that if I am playing a song, and hide the lyrics side panel... then bringing back the side panel.. the Lyrics is gone.. and even by hitting refresh, it does not come back. To get it back, i have to either click the song for it to play again, or just leave it to go to the next song.
This is only the case for songs that do not have their lyrics on my computer already. SO.. seems like it only does an internet search when a song is started.

Hey,

I think it would be best for the Default 'custom display style' to be the [Current feather] ( instead of [None] ), that way when people install Lyrics Master and change between feathers, they never have to go into the options to change it.. Plus, doesn't it default to [None] if the feather doesn't have a custom style... ;)

First of all: awesome plugin!! made me switch over to Songbird!

Please add two features:

1) pull lyrics from both lyricswiki and lyricsmaster (whichever has them)

2) allow editing lyrics from within Songbird/the lyricsmaster pane, not only offline but also online (i.e. save changes back to the online source). Lyricsplugin for WMP/Winamp allows this, would be great if you could implement it, too :-)
(the simplest way would be to add 2 links: one to each website where the user can edit the source lyrics, for example http://lyricwiki.org/index.php?title=Logh:String_Theory)

I noticed that birdtitle manages to snag the names despite this... and it uses dataremotes... although my attempts to hack your code to fix this have been yet unsuccessful!

Just add extensions.checkCompatibility = false to your about:config

To do that, open a new tab in Songbird, enter "about:config" in your address bar and hit enter. Then right click, create a new boolean value with that name and set it to false. Restart Songbird et voilà.

First off, love the add-on. One of the main reasons I use Songbird now. Anyway, I'm having a problem - I think it's a problem. Songs aren't downloading and I'm getting the "No Lyrics Found" message. I selected the "lyricwiki.org" option and still no lyrics. I went to lyricwiki.org, and the lyrics were certainly there. What might cause this? I did format the tags using MusicBrainz picard, but some songs in the same album do download. =(

I'm curious to know which shoutcast streams display lyrics. I listen to streams from somafm.com and can't get any lyrics. I can't imagine that the streams are that different from one content provider to the next, or maybe I'm totally clueless about how shoutcast works. I'd love to get lyrics for my favorite music! Thanks for the add-on but I must express some frustration I've had with it. I noticed after saving the lyrics to a song that my meticulously done meta data was being changed. Instead of just writing to the lyrics field, my album artists names were being modified? Why is that? Is there a way to get the addon to just edit what it claims to do, just the lyrics?

I have a few compilations and I group them together as an album with "various artists" for the album artist, with the individual tracks song artists reflecting the true artist. Why is lyrics master editing any other field than just the lyrics?

However I see a bit of problem when I use shoutcast radio station.. The artist, song name etc changes automatically when song is changed but I need to clear and refresh lyrics manually.

A suggestion I have (unless the option already exists - I couldn't find it) would be to allow the user to stop the songbird search from searching through the lyrics. This would be great for users like myself, who almost exclusively search for songs via title.

Love the addon. Just a few minor bugs:

Sometimes, a single quotation mark (') turns into an odd square () with 1 number in each corner...happens randomly and is fixed with a simple manual-edit.

The second is similar, but more of an issue. It seems that some languages have characters that give it issues. Appears in the pane with issues, but copies/pastes just fine...only song I have seen that gives this issue is Superstar by Activ fetching lyrics from lyricswiki.

Hey - This pane used to be able to be put in the bottom left area, in place of the "now selected" album art. That's the way it worked pre-version 1 I think, but as of the latest version, it seems that I can't put lyrics master there anymore. That's where I liked it, so I'd appreciate it if you fixed that bug!

idk if this has been stated before, but I use the mini player feature of songbird a lot, and when i return to the main player the lyrics pane is always blank, and when i click "refresh lyrics" it never works in refreshing the lyrics. any idea of why this is or how to fix it? thanks and thanks for the great addon! :)

I'm trying Songbird again and your add on sounds great! However, only a few of my 27,000+ songs are showing up with the Lyrics indicator in the Library view, while 90%+ of my songs have lyrics tagged.

Also, the first song I played after installing LyricMaster found lyrics on the web so I said to add them to see what would happen. It wiped out other tags in the song, like Comments, Year and Genre.

Is the add on looking in id3v2 tags for lyrics? Or maybe lyrics3v2?

LyricMaster 1.6.1.2 is deleting some tags from ID3v2. Mainly 'Year' & 'Genere'. Sometimes it also removes other tags like 'Artist' and 'Album' and almost always removes the Album Art tagged into ID3v2.

I've been getting the same problem Jerome already reported with Japanese lyrics: it's really annoying to have the hard work to go through all the tracks in an album adding the lyrics and then all of them just turn to gibberish (some don't, however -why?!). But the same happens with any special character, even in English. Check this:
All apostrophes turn into this character. I just can't get it right. I go back and fetch the right lyrics with all the apostrophes in place, but from the time that it takes from 'OK' to 'Refresh' they disappear again. Please fix this!

Could you implement a method of changing the Artist it searches for, to perhaps, album artist? I find a lot of my songs have 'feat X' but the album artist remains the same.

Love the extension, but I have a bug that just developed about an hour ago for me.

Up until just now, I've had the lyrics display in the bottom content pane. I restarted songbird to remove a plugin I didn't use, but when it reloaded, the bottom pane was blank, and I can only put the lyrics in the right content pane, which I don't want to do because that cuts off too many columns I want to display in the song list. If anyone's had this problem with this extension before, please let me know how to fix it. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that didn't work.

Excellent App!

I have noticed a few issues for me that I would like to see resolved. The main issues for me is when using batch function to add lyrics an album. When ever I do that the lyrics text if viewed in any other tag editor shows up all on a single line. However, If I do each song individually they come out fine. The other thing I have noticed is sometimes when I do add lyrics to a single son that not all the characters are recognized and I end up with a bunch of square looking things that have replaced commas. That is my only issue with the plugin.

When I have the add-on enabled the lyrics-column in the list of songs is visible every time I restart songbird although I don't want to have it there.
I only use lyricmaster sometimes as a convenient way to read the lyrics of a song. Therefore it would also be nice, if you could load the lyrics for a song even after the song actually starts playing, so that we don't have to restart the song.
Otherwise, nice add-on.

I would recommend you get your source of lyrics from http://www.lyricwiki.org, i'm not sure how it compares with http://www.lyricsplugin.com/ but i'm pretty sure it has a larger database because it is public and anyone can edit it. I would also like a feature which will automatically search,find and sync lyrics with all the current songs loaded onto songbird.

Hello. I love the LyricMaster addon, I use it all the time. There are, however, three things that I think should be implemented, if possible.

First, I agree with the people who would like a scrolling option. but I'm sure you already know about that.

Second, when I click the little lyric indicator (the small paper looking thing in the 'Lyric' column), nothing happens. I think it would be great if, regardless what song was playing, that clicking on the lyric icon for a specific song, would open that song's lyrics in the pane. That way, when I'm just looking for a lyric, I don't have to listen to the song.

Third, If scrolling ever gets implemented, I would like a bottom-pane, karaoke style, lyric scroll.

Those aren't really needed, but I'd love the addon even more if they were added

Love the feature set, but scrolling really is a deal breaker. Your addon is better presented, better maintained, and has a lot more shine to it, and yet I'm considering shifting to the shabbily presented scrolling__lyrics (even the name is ridiculous!), just coz of that. You really gotta consider adding support for lrc files, coz I can't use MiniLyrics on my Mac like I used to on my PC, and I still gotta try out scrolling lyrics but am turned off by the bad presentation and the bad reviews. You've said its outta your scope, but maybe you could inspect the scrolling lyrics addon, and check out how he has written the lrc reader and maybe take some inspiration from there and integrate his best features with yours and make one great addon.

Also, you gotta change the triggering of your addon. If some other addon is active in the content pane and then I switch to LyricMaster, it doesn't recognise the song playing, I have to restart the song or go to the next song for it to work. Maybe you could modify the triggering to look for the lyrics when your addon is activated AND when a new song is played.

First off I'd like to say great addon -- I love to sing along so this is a great idea.

However, sometimes it won't find lyrics from lyricsplugin.com. I then can switch it to lyricwiki, and it does find them, and vice-versa. Basically I have observed that sometimes lyrics are on lyricsplugin and not on lyricwiki or on lyricwiki and not on lyricsplugin. I think there should be an option to search on one database first, and if none are found switch to the other database so there is a greater chance the lyrics will be found.

Someone might have suggested this in the comments before me, but a simple way to improve this would be to enable the plugin to search BOTH databases you have listed.

Rather than having the user select which database to search from, just wrap everything in a simple if/else statement so that if lyrics aren't found in one database, it searches the other.

That should take all of a couple minutes and would be a nice fix until you get around to using lyricsplugin.com's library or whatever. In any event, I think there should always be a second library to search in case the first doesn't return any results.

Question, how does the add-on do its searches? I have some tracks (and some even albums) that already have a lyrics entry in lyricwiki.org but the add-on can not find it. I prefer it automatically, because I will know if the lyrics will show up in other people's machine ^_^

Anyway, I'll just report it as a bug then. The add-on currently won't fetch the lyrics of a file if the artist name is not exactly the same as the one found in lyricwiki. Or maybe, if the artist name have dots.

I encountered this with artist: "i.d.0.4." (1st two albums) and "I.D.0.4." (2nd two albums). The entry for Lyricwiki is "I.d.0.4."

I've made my LyricsMaster addon work with version 1.2.0 of Songbird. This is what I did:

1) Download the latest version of the addon (1.6.1.2) from the version history link on this page. (The link is in the panel Details at the top of this page).

2) Extract the addon's file content using Winzip or Winrar (or whatever program you have that can handle ZIP files) to a folder.

3) Open the file 'install.rdf' and change the line that says

em:maxVersion="1.2.0a" to em:maxVersion="1.2.0"

*This line is at the end of the file.
**notice I only deleted the letter 'a' after the version string 1.2.0

4) Repack all the files using Winzip or Winrar and install the addon with Songbird.
* the package file must be in ZIP format. Don't use Winrar's default RAR format. If you're using Winrar, choose the ZIP format before creating the archive.

That's what I've done. It's working for me perfectly.

Sorry dude, i respect you really. I just did it, it works perfectly. For others who are not sure how to do it, i tell them: First open the xpi file with winrar and open the file "install.rdf" with wordpad (not notepad) and do what juneval said, and save it, than click yes to winrar's notification:"do you want do apply changes". Yeah, you got it, it's ready to be installed. Thank you again juneval!

I love this add-on and I have added the lyrics in all my mp3 with it. I have just bought a samsung YP_P3 player.

I have transferred the music there as UMS from the PC (I have copy/paste the files on it as a mass storage device).

Everything works except ... it says" no lyrics". Why not? Where can it hang? Any idea to make them compatible?

I'm very happy that the plugin finally reads the lyrics from the existing Metadata tags. I have been waiting for that for a while.

I'm disappointed that the plugin no longer writes the lyrics to the Metadata tags as it did in previous versions. I use the lyrics quite frequently in my mp3 player but with this version I am no longer able to view them.

But, is it possible that LyricMaster automatically searches the Lyrics in both databases?
Sometimes LyricMaster does not found a Lyric in one Database and if I switch to the other DB manually, the Lyric is found.
Maybe something like: "if not fount @lyricsplugin.com, try lyricwiki.org" :)

The lyrics I save with LyricMaster are unreadable on iPod (synced with iTunes), even if they are correctly loaded in Songbird and even in iTunes.

On the iPod, after searching for half a minute, it says that it is impossible to load the lyrics.

Hey man, this is an awesome add-on! One thing that would really really help: Better handling of the "no lyrics found" case. I have some simple ideas on how to fix this:
1-If the search fails, do some string processing to shorten then song name. The easiest thing you can do is simply search for the first open parenthesis character "(", in the song title. If it IS present, remove everything from that index forward, resulting in a new, shorter song title. Then retry the search. This would fix like 90% of the failed searches I've encountered while using this add-on.
2-if option 1 fails, or if you're feeling lazy, what about presenting the user with a form where they can manually type / edit the Song Title string used in the search? The current handling does not allow for this and results in a VERY clunky process if you have a failed search.

If I get time I'll look at the code. I don't know what kind of string processing facilities are available in this framework, but in the languages I know, this kind of stuff is relatively trivial.

I have been using song bird for the past 6 months and I have only one question.

Where does LyricMaster stores the lyrics. I am using it on Mint Linux and Windows Vista.

Let me tell you an example: I had a song in my playlist for 3 months during those days it has downloaded the lyrics and I clicked on "save " options to save it. Then I deleted the song from my play list for One week and now I have added it. There was no internet connection to my computer for 2 days and I observed that there was no lyrics during that two days and on 3rd day Lyricmaster downloaded the lyrics and offered a " Save" option..... !!!

*Note: I copied the file from the playlist location thinking that it saved the lyrics in to metadata of the mp3 file and used the same file after One week.

Please help me to understand it.

Sadly lyricwiki.org has removed their developer API because of some major publishers asking them to or whatever. To get your lyrics running again, just use lyricsplugin.com lyrics instead of lyricwiki.org and you should be fine. :)

this is such a good add-on for songbird, however i found a little bug if u may call it that way, when im listening stream radio through SHOUTcast in songbird the artist/song info is displayed correctly but the lyrics are totally wrong, can anybody take care of this "bug" please? thanks a lot and keep it up.....

I am trying to figure out what causes the character that shows up in the place of apostrophes. I believe its actually just that the source lyrics in lyricsplugin.com are like that. I haven't figured out how to capture what the character is yet, but once we have the exact character value it should be easy to patch in a process to replace that character with proper apostrophes.

I've got the same Problems as msharmony2001. I use Songbird 1.2.0 and updated from LM 1.6.1.3 (where everything runs fine) to 1.7.0.0. From this time on, no Lyrics would be downloaded anymore. I've "downgraded" back to 1.6.1.3 and await the next update - in hope of fixing this Problem...

When songbird saves the lyrics to the mp3 file, it prefaces them with "XXX||". This syntax prevents other apps (e.g., WMP) from recognizing the lyrics. If you preface the lyrics with "eng||" then the lyrics will be flagged as english, and other apps will pick them up.

The batch fetch feature doesn't work anymore. Songbird 1.2.0, Build 1146 (20090616030043) and LyricMaster 1.7.0.0.
I tried disabling all other add-ons. I reinstalled Songbird but that didn't help. The icons just keeps spinning, but no lyrics or text appear.
The strange thing is, the lyrics get fetched and appear in the LyricsMaster pane, as usual.

I just installed Lyricmaster today, and I seem to be having the same problem as Joergenr with the fetching feature in general. When I go to Edit Metadata on song(s) and go to fetch lyrics in a batch or individually, nothing happens. But when I play the song, the lyrics appear in the right sidebar, and I can save them to the song. Seems like an obscure problem, and I'm new to Songbird in general, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is just my report for some problem about Lyric search in Thai language

I use Lyric Master for lyric search. Lyric Master search from www.lyricsplugin.com.
1.Some song cannot found in Songbird, but can met when use Window Media Player (use Lyrics plugin).
2. I have problem when search. Lyric Master cannot find lyric then I use Web Search feature (by Google). The result can see in picture 01. The same song I have play by WMP it can found, do not need to search (see picture 02).

I am recently encountering an issue where LyricsMaster will fetch all the song lyrics and put the lyrics for that song on the song below it in my library. I can't fetch multiple songs(or one) on the lyrics tab for each file, and the only way to get new lyrics is to delete all of them and save them by starting the song.

I found myself wishing the same thing. After a little lyrics obsession I had this morning (just had to know the lyrics to a certain song) I decided I can wait no longer and I did the following 5 simple steps (please note that it worked for me, but I can't guarantee it will work for you or that it won't damage anything, backup any file you change first) :

1. Opened (using notepad) the following file "...extensions\{248e3e8b-5a5c-4e7e-9bef-6720255e36e0}\install.rdf" located under my SongBird profile folder (under %appdata%).
2. Replaced the value of em:maxVersion from "1.3.0a" to "1.4.0a" and saved the file.
*** You can try restarting Songbird and see if it works for you now. Myself, I encountered a parsing issue and had to perform steps 3 - 4 as well.
3. Opened (using notepad) the following file "...extensions\{248e3e8b-5a5c-4e7e-9bef-6720255e36e0}\chrome\content\pane.xul" located under my Songbird profile folder (under %appdata%).
4. Deleted the entire line 26:
menuitem id="metadataMenuItem" label="&menu.tools.metadata;" oncommand="LM_goDoCommand('cmd_metadata');" including the <> , If i write them it doesn't write the line correctly
5. Saved the file and restarted Songbird.

Works great now.

An easier method might be to download the xpi manually (click here for a version list), open it as a zip file.. Edit install.rdf and change the "1.3.0a" to "1.4.0*" (yes that's an asterix after the 0)

Then go to the chrome/content directory in the xpi archive, and edit the pane.xul,

CHANGE the label="&menu.tools.metadata;" to label="&menu.file.metadata;" as the "View Metadata" option has moved to the file menu..

Then install the .xpi file normally (through the addons menu)

I have Songbird 1.1.2, Build 1042 (20090331142126). I did not update to the latest version since many plugins I use are not supported as yet in the latest version.

When I play any song, I notice that the lyrics appear on the sidebar and get saved into the ID3 tag of the song that's playing. But, when I select multiple songs and use the "Edit Metadata" option, click on the "Lyrics" tab, and click the Batch button, I can't get any lyrics. The list of songs show up on the "LyricMaster Aggregator" window and there is a spinning circle next to each song, but no lyrics get fetched even after waiting five minutes. The problem happens even when a single song is selected and I go into the "Fetch" option on the "Lyrics" tab of "Edit Metadata".

Is there a problem with the Batch / Fetch option in LyricMaster?

I have uploaded an updated version to Google Code. It hopefully should be making its way here soon. The update makes the extension compatible with the most recent betas of Songbird (version 1.4, not 1.5. There is no such thing as SongBird 1.5 yet), and also fixes the batch issue.

Great plugin! However, it doesn't correctly display non-English lyrics that are saved in the database (not downloaded from the web).

If I input lyrics in, say, Korean via the metadata editor, save and then reload the lyrics, they're not displayed but replaced by gibberish. This seems to indicate that different encodings are used when loading and saving the lyrics. They are displayed in the same messed-up way in both the metadata editor and the lyrics pane.

Also, when non-English lyrics are available on the web, they are displayed correctly, but once I save and reload them, they turn into gibberish, too.

I guess there are two ways to work around this problems: a) use Unicode for both saving and loading lyrics, as apparently already happens when loading lyrics from the web; b) provide a way to set the encoding to be used when displaying lyrics (this is obviously less comfortable).

I'd really like seeing this fixed.

Apart from that, LyricsMaster brings a lot of convenience to my music listening :) so thanks for making it.

Lyrics will not be grabbed for a song in progress if lyric master is switched to during playback. For example, I have Now Playing selected as my sidebar, then I start playing a song. Now I switch to Lyric Master, and no lyrics appear. They do not appear if I hit refresh lyrics either. Can you check to grab lyrics if a song if playing currently when it is initialized as the sidebar? Thanks much, great extension.

There is an incompatibility with "Now Playing List" add-on. When you double click the song in your library it gets added in the List instead of start playing. So you have to go to the List and start it from there. But then when you turn to the LyricMaster pane the lyrics are not loaded and there doesn't seem to be a way to get them loaded.

I had posted this problem originally on the main app forum thinking not realizing that it was this addon. The problem is that the Edit Metadata Dialog Box is missing the right edge leaving off the OK button. When editing multiple files the OK button is totally missing, but single file edits the left end of the button is there. The OK function is there you just have to TAB the focus over to what should be the OK button and hit enter. The mouse pointer will not work. As suggested by someone else on the forum I disabled LyricMaster and the problem went away. Changing feathers as another person had suggested, did not have any effect on it.

Hey there, nice AddOn!! I have a problem though, after I reinstalled Songbird and forgot to back up my settings...
So now the full lyrics content won't show on the plugin, just goes [...] on the 5th line.

Hi there, and thanks for the great plugin.

Very often, not always, when I click on a first track of an album, it does not add the lyrics found to the mp3 file. From track 2 onwards it works fine.

I'd love it to "crawl" my collection in the background and add lyrics as it finds them!

There is a bug in Windows Vista and 7:
When you save downloaded lyrics to ID3tag, triple x(as unknown language) and double vertical bar added automatically to the start of lyrics like this:

XXX||...(lyrics)

this procedure cause Windows Vista or 7 not to show song cover art in explorer windows when you switch to large icon view. I found that if you remove the five characters, which I mentioned before (XXX||), the problem will be solved.

Please consider this bug in the future updates. thanks

I am unable to reproduce the issue you describe and believe your issue is being caused by something else. Are you exclusively using Songbird to embed your artwork, or doing it some other way?

Also, please note that the language code being set to "xxx" is actually an issue with SongBird itself and not something that could be changed by the extension. The SB developers' response to this issue is basically "You're free to write a patch to fix this but we don't care to." Here's me asking the devs about it and their response:

Please also note that as others in the comments have said, there are several workarounds to this issue, you just need to use third party software that actually DOES respect the language code. The free example I would recommend is the extremely powerful Mp3tag, which can be used to batch-replace the term "xxx||" with "eng||" in all your files in one step.

The other way to do it is to simply write anything into the lyrics tags using any program that respects the language code (iTunes, Mp3tag, Tag&Rename, etc), and then run the files through LyricMaster, which will overwrite the junk with actual lyrics.

I am in the process of fixing up / auditing my music library (which is very large), so I have had to figure out what works and what doesn't. I have processed about 20,000 tracks this way, so I can confirm it does work, resulting in tracks with lyrics tagged into them which can then be displayed in devices like my iPod Touch :)

I found that I can add lyrics myself with the Windows Media Player after installing www.lyricsplugin.com (a button in the LyricsMaster to add lyrics would be nice though).

I found something strange however: the lyrics I added for:
Title: Hilly Fields (1982)
Artist: Nick Nicely
Album: Psychotropia
were found by the Windows Media Player but not by LyricsMaster.
Ive tried removing the brackets from the mp3’s title and from the lyrics database, but only when I lost the (1982) completely it worked and LM also found the lyrics.

A suggestion: maybe somebody could make a button so that a second pane opens with the translation of the lyrics? I open Google Translate in another window to translate the lyrics, if this could be done within the SB screen that would be very nice.

Hi and thanks for your response;
I use MP3tag software to manage my MP3 files' ID3 including artwork, but this problem concerns to all MP3 files not just the ones which is manipulated by MP3tag software, i mean i've tested it myself.
I hope that Songbird developer team solve this issue on the future releases and thanks again for your effort.

Shouldnt there be an intuitive way to control what is showing in songbird and what isnt.

As trschober noted, this isn't working with newer builds. I'm running 1.6.0a build 1393. I get an XML parsing error with entity not defined on line 26 of pane.xul. If I comment out line 26 of this file things work with no errors. Here's the commented out line:

Is it possible to add Asian Language support on this? When it tries to search the Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters display in google search incorrectly.

Also, the lyrics in Asian character don't show up on the iPhone correctly, however English shows up fine

I use Songbird 1.2.0 on Windows XP. First of all lemme tell you that LyricsMaster is a Kickass addon! But there seems to be a problem while writing the UNSYNCEDLYRICS ID3 tag. its being written as XXX||"The lyrics goes here". Because of this many other applications are not displaying the lyrics properly (for instance my jailbreaked iPod Touch G2 running iPhone OS 3.1.2)...So please fix this bug of this otherwise great addon!

What languages? The first thing to check would be to see if the site we get our lyrics from actually supports the language(s) you want. If it doesn't, then there's not really anything we can do about it. If that part works then I might be able to fiddle with it. Please note English is the only language I am fluent in, so I'll be useless in testing out such functionality.

Can you send me a file which "doesn't work" in this way? I've been running Windows 7 for about 6 months and honestly have never seen this sort of thing. If nothing else I'd like to be able to figure out what's causing the probably non-standard-compliant tag reader in Explorer problems...

Hi! sorry I just updated my songbird, and using the 1.7 lyric master. I had found it great previously, but now whenever it searches for lyrics it comes up with no lyrics found. This happens with everything. I have noticed that it searches for 'undefined''then the band and the lyrics and when i manually searched for them without the undefined it found them easily. Can anybody help me with this? This could be something I'm doing or something really simple that I'm missing, so help would be REALLY appreciated. Really liked the add on so would love this fixed. Thanks.

thats an awesome addon.
however i found an error.
whenever i save the lyircs to the tag of a vbr encoded mp3 the title/interpret/album tags will no longer be shown in the explorer. they are still "in" the file but i need to rewrite them every time in order to make them work.
im using win7 x64, songbird 1.2, mp3 with lame codec 3.98
any suggestions??

It seems windows 7 does not like ID3 2.4 Tags (I'm on win7 32bit) & I had the same problem.
only way around it was to delete all the 2.4 tags & everything should show up again. due to some hardware failure some time back my music library is not what is used to be so I deleted all tags & retaged everything (with ID3 2.3 & lower) & set all my music folders to read only to try & prevent this until there's some kind of fix. I don't think its a bug with lyrics master & or songbird as such, its more a problem of Microsoft not supporting ID3 2.4. but oddly Vista could read all tags... beware If you go down the route of removing all tags it seems that 2.4 Tags seem to "stack" so they need wiping quite a few times.

I must add that everything was fine with songbird before I retagged everything submissions to last.fm worked OK & all tags showed up (in songbird & just about every other media) but not Windows Explorer or WMP I'm not sure if MS are going to fix it or not, likely they will just say hey we don't do 2.4 tags...

For maximum compatibility use ID3v2.3 UTF-16. You can CONVERT directly TO this format in one operation using Mp3tag.

Please also note that ID3v2.4 Lyrics tags do NOT work on the iPhone OS, whereas 2.3 UTF-16 do work. If you have 2.4 tags with Lyrics in them, you will experience the bug where the iPhone / iPod Touch simply displays "Loading..." but never displays the lyrics.

I have an issue with this add-on:
After adding lyrics to a song if I check back sometime later lyrics have strange symbols added where the ' (apostrophes) should be.
This then stops my ipod from being able to read the lyrics.

I'll need an example of a song with the non-working characters. If I can figure out what they are I should be able to replace them with characters that won't make the stupid iPod OS unhappy. This will be the third seperate and independent thing I've found that causes problems with it...

Since Version 1.7.3 Lyricmaster can't be disabled (except I choose another Addon in the pane), every time a song starts or the playback switchs to the next song, LyricMaster opens his pane. Maybe there is a possibility to notice the pane-closing as disabling until it is opened again?

The descriptions of the last two revisions in the version history say "reset window scroll to top upon track change." But I'm running Songbird 1.4.3 on both Windows 7 32-bit and Ubuntu 9.10 32-bit, and neither show LyricMaster as having this feature.

Great plugin, however I just installed Songbird 1.4.3 and Lyrics Master 1.7.5 and now if no lyric is found for a song it display a question "Save These Lyrics?" instead of the previous search the web for lyrics. I have set the program to automatically save the lyrics if available.

Ya, its a bug. I am also using Songbird 1.4.3 and LyricMaster 1.7.5 on ubuntu 9.10. When no lyric is found, it asks to "save lyrics", which is irrelevant. It should show the notification to do a "web search" like it used to be.
Hope to see the bug solved soon.

I can confirm this. I just upgraded an old Songbird 1.2 installation and also LyricMaster was updated to 1.7.5

I now set "How do you want your lyrics saved" to "Never Save / Never Ask"; I had it to "Prompt to Save / Always Ask".

That "Prompt to save / Always Ask" in past versions did not bring Songbird to the foreground, which is ok, but now that option is useless to me.

The bug with "undefined" before the artist name is still present. It happens whenever the naming scheme is selected to be "Doe, John" instead of "John Doe".

I'm trying to add lyric tags to my whole mp3 collection (about 30000 songs). Is there any better way than using about 30 times the batch fetcher with the 1000 songs limit?

@JasonDW: You right click on a selection of titles (has to be between 2 and 1000 of them) and choose "View Metadata". You can then find the batch button in the lyrics tab of the metadata editor.

Using windows 7 btw and I love this add-on :) I used to use itunes and always wished I had something like this. But... Downloaded songbird like a weekago, and just installed today. When i changed the option to "automatically add lyrics" it crashes every time, so I changed the option back to ask me. I really wish I could have them added automatically! Also, I would like if actual lyrics are found to overwrite if I have just garbage in there (like, "lyrics could not be found" etc because I used to use itunes freeware crap like lyricsnapper which hardly worked)

I'm going to email the Lyricsplugin.com guys to see if maybe they have some explanation. The actual lyrics retrieval code doesn't try to do any real processing, so it seems likely that the "..." versions of lyrics are being returned by the site for some weird reason.

Unfortunately, I am trying now and I cannot. Well, I guess that's not unfortunate for me, but if there's really a bug I'd like to help. I guess it was something odd with a particular artist. If it happens again I'll tell you the artist/album and some information about the files.

I have a issue with this addon and now playing addon.
Say if I start playing a song and lycricmaster fetches the lyric, then if I switch to Now playing display pane and then switch back the lyric is gone. I just get a blank pane. It seems that only when we start playing a song the lyric master fetches the lyric.
Clicking refresh lyrics does nothing in this scenario.
