Provides a Songbird-native interface for browsing and playback of SHOUTcast Internet Radio streams. You can bookmark/favourite stations, filter/search, and view by genre.
Updated for 2.2.0 release.
You shouldn’t use white as text color. It doesn’t

When I startup songbird I get a notification saying a script is taking too long and it asks me if I want to stop it or let it continue. It points to this code: chrome://shoutcast-radio/content/favourites.js:52
Since either v0.4.5 or v0.4.6 I have been unable to add streams to Favorite Stations. The Favorite column simply isn’t there, nor is there a right click context menu [in the SHOUTcast list]. These are in the Favorite Stations list, and sadly, I can remove streams from this list. Help please!
The extension is great!
The only thing I’ve noticed is, when you point your cursor in
the “genre” field and then click outside of it with
your mouse and try to open a (cmd+T) new tab, the pointer will
still be on the previous field so a genre will change to the T
initial one, instead of just opening the tab.
Sorry for buggy english.
I hope you clearly got what I meant.
Thanks for the add
I use the Shoutcast website all the time to listen to Old Time Radio. When I search for “old time radio”, on their site, I get about 20+ stations. How can I do this within this add-on?
@stevel: sorry, no column picker for me (only in a SHOUTcast
tab). Following is my Error Console (cleared console with only
Library tab up -> clicked SHOUTcast -> viewed console after
SHOUTcast tab loaded):

This extension works great for me. Is there any chance of
getting the track information to show so it will work well in
combination with other addons such as mashtape?
Nice work!
does this consider all radio on all countries?
@stevel: any useful info in my console log? I have since uninstalled, restarted, and installed to bring the return of the favorites column, but still no column picker.
Love this AddOn!!! Great work! (having the possibility to search
in ‘All’ would indeed be icing on the cake…
)
But I have another little quibble: I’d like it if clicking
the ‘SHOUTcast’ item in the treeview could set focus on
any already opened tab with the SHOUTcast search instead of always
opening a new tab. Could this be done?
This AddOn has really really really increased the appeal of
Songbird for me! Coming from Winamp this was THE feature that I missed! I practically
only listen to streams these days and was contemplating the
daunting task of maybe having to try and write an addon like
this!
And for those querying about the track info not showing, this AddOn
is not responsible for that: it’s a known bug with GStreamer
occuring under Linux only (maybe OS X
also, not sure…).
ZOMG !!!
I just found the ‘Favorite’ feature, I hadn’t
seen it!!!
This solves my other problem with Songbird: bookmarking
streams!
YAY!
How's that custom field for different genres coming along? Or "all" category?
@stevel
you tease concerts extension ! I want it :p
You rock, dude! Custom fields allow my old time radio to show up! Thanks!!!
Stevel : http://tinyurl.com/6akgtp
Unable to write in the space for the comma-delimited list of genres. the box is only a thin line.
In WinAmp you can select All Genres - can you make it work like they do?
Thanks,
Great add-on!!
Btw, anyone know of a similar addon but for ICEcast?
What I would really like is a way to Export/Import my Favourite SHOUTcast streams.
I mostly listen to underground music and it takes some hunting around to find good streams - when I find them I don't want to lose them!
Then I could easily use Songbird on different computers (e.g. work + home). It would also make things easier when your computer/Songbird installation breaks.
Also what about the option to add a custom Label (name) to a stream? Sometimes they use stupidly long names, or put too much self-promotion / advertising.
Cheers,
why are there some internet radio stations that are not on shoutcast? like bbc radio 1?
Is there any possibility to add sations to the list?
Since the latest update, I cannot play any stations. They seem to start playing, with no sound, for about six seconds and then quit. I am running the Songbird 0.7beta on Vistax64. Thanks.
Same here.
None of the stations in my Favourite list work any more. Streams NOT in my favourites do work.
Does this mean we have to delete and rebuild our favourites again?
Thanks,
Is it possible (and how) to record some music from ShoutCast in MP3 format?
Thanks
@stevel. Thanks for your reply. It's a pity because the music there is actually very good and nice to carry on. Anyway, I understand the problem.
how about a feature to parse artist/title from stream to have it properly displayed by mashTape and LyricsMaster?
@stevel - cool, thanks for your work. How about also adding ability to disable this by hand? (if it does not work on certain stream)
@steve
Yes there are several ShoutCast error messages - do you want me to paste them in here? Or is there an existing bug report?
Are my suggestions feasible? They should be relatively easy to implement.
Does anyone know if it's possible to scrobble shoutcast radio to last.fm from within Songbird? Some people have accomplished it here using Winamp http://www.last.fm/forum/21717/_/340809/6 but I haven't been able to get it to work :-(
I love this plugin but I ahve two problems. Since Songbird 1.0.0rc2, Build 842 (20081113122156) it will only play one song at a time from a stream then it stops. It shows the next song but never plays it. The other problem is it wil lplay 1-2 seconds of a stream then stop. Restarting songbird fixes this but the other problem is chronic.
forget my last post. Songbird 1.0.0rc3, Build 856 (20081120214438) has fixed my issues. Didn't notice it was released when I posted.
Hi,
For the next release can you add a pref to enable AAC streams. Currently they are disabled at line 360 in the direcoty.js.
P.S. I hacked the artist/title update code you wrote in SVN into the current release. Works great with LyricMaster now.
Hello!
I am update for last version with "Bug 13842 - Update artist & title metadata from stream" resolved, but my Songbird can't read artist and title data from my shoutcast server stream:
http://62.105.151.30:8000/listen.pls
Problems I've noticed
-After listening to radio station, can't switch back to music in library
-Can't open the .pls file, only can browse through directory
-Some radio stations don't work (comedy104 for example: http://classic.shoutcast.com/sbin/shoutcast-playlist.pls?rn=691798&file=filename.pls)
Update:
All 3 of these problems are fixed in the latest build.
Whoopie!
I get some kind of media core error when I click on a station.
Whoops, I lied, one bug isn't fixed.
-After listening to radio station, can't play to music in library
Please fix =]
Does anyone else think it'd be awesome to easily mark what songs you like?
There are a lot of songs I've never heard before and I'd like to store them for later review. Since you've figured out who's playing, and what song it is (in the titlebar that's a link to the shoutcast radio) I think it'd be very useful to just store those
Even if the storing wasn't really interactive in the first iteration, store the date/time, what station it came from, the artist and song title.
Thoughts?
Real Player has feature called PerfectPlay (caching streaming sound). That way, one can listen over again some songs that catch one's attention on radio (and even record it with AudaCity... ) Would like to see that funcionality in my favorite media player somehow... Through your add-on it would be really nice.
How con I Do playlist of radio? Except the favorit playlist ;)
hi
i'm using songbird1.1. and win vista and shoutcast doesn't work at all!
when I click on the shoutcast icon it is only loading and songbird crashes.
same problem here with Songbird 1.1 using Windows 7 64bit and Shoutcast 0.7.2.1018
It helped for me to create a new profile!
AddOn works perfectly now.
i know i mentioned this before, but being able to store favorite songs (just like stations) would be great. Having to open textpad and keeping a list of new songs I like is a bummer.
Just commenting to say this is a must have extension and works flawlessly, thanks!
Clicking on shoutcast is causing songbird to crash
Hey steve!
Great job on this plugin! I'm transitioning from VLC to songbird mainly because your plugin. I would have installed songbird regardless, but I can do almost everything with it on a normal basis and keep VLC as a light weight backup.
HOWEVER~
I was wondering if you would be making a SHOUTcast TV plugin aswell?
The only thing I see wrong with this, is it does not have a refresh button to refresh what songs are on the stations.
Is there a possibility to get Radio options for Songbird as there are in iTunes ??
only thing i miss of iTunes is the Podcast and Radio options as compared to Songbird...
Finally fed up with iTunes and so glad I found this! Would like to be able to add and find radio stations by call letters. Have some favorites (like WWOZ) that I can't find by genre (like Zydeco).
Thanks for putting this all together!
uninstalling SHOUTcast won't remove it from the service pane. the same thing happened to BirdTune a while ago.
I was having problems with Shoutcast not working with Songbird 1.20. I would click on Shoutcast in the left pane, but it would never load. To fix it, I simply backed up my profile and started with a new one. I'm sure there is a specific file one could remove from the profile without having to start over, but I didn't have much to loose.
How can I increase the number of retries for songbird to connect to different radio streams? It is so annoying to do that manually.
Just made a tentative move away from Winamp to something cross platform. I found that the search function is lacking though
Shoutcast now offers subcategories for search categories. E.g. for Latin we have Reggaeton and more than 10 others. If I search just that subcategory (http://www.shoutcast.com/radio/Reggaeton) I get 5 pages worth of results. Under Latin in Songbird I get 31 results - in my web browser I get 380 using the same selection.
Since the search only yields a fraction of the search results, you're in fact still better off using the web interface and downloading PLS files which are then imported into Songbird.
I've been experiencing problems with Shoutcast for some time now. On both Windows and Linux I get random errors ranging from "This appears to be a text file" to something like "Cannot make connection to ....". When I first used Songbird, it didn't appear to happen as much. I love the fact that Songbird has an amazing station collection but it frustrates me that it is so hit or miss to make it work. Any ideas?
Hello,
I use Sogbird and SHOUTcast Radio for a long time now.
But for one week I have the same problems described in the posting of PcPixel (one above).
I also get the same error messages.
If I try 20 different radio stations for many many times then one is suddenly working.
But when I switch the station I have no success.
I also did not change the hardware or software on my system and also not anything on the firewall settings.
Songbird can load web pages and sometimes radio works (one try of 50 tries works).
But when I try the station that worked before, it is broken again.
PLEASE HELP!
Is there something that I can do to help (log files or something like that)?
Greetings
OLLI
Great Addon ! :-) Just some remarks/requests:
a) Surprisingly I cannot open some radio-streams while others work perfectly. (Clicking on a list-item/stream doesn't have any effect.)
b) Another problem is that a simple double-click on a Shoutcast-list-item (radio-stream) doesn't open/play it. In almost any case I have to click about 10 - 15 times rapidly on a stream in order to get it opened/played.
c) Surprsingly I also cannot open a stream by selecting/highliting it in the shoutcast-list and pressing Songbird's Play-button. I can only open a stream by mouse-clicking on it.
d) Is there a chance to get a feature for RECORDING shoutcast streams ? :-)
It would be nice to know which stream is currently playing. Either in the playback bar at the bottom or via a small icon in the list of radio stations.
Very depressing that people report problems and nothing happens here.
Sometimes the radio functionality works, sometimes (mostly) not.
When I open the VLC media player I can listen to the same stations without any problems (so this is not a bug on in the radio channels).
So it is a problem inside Songbird, the Add-On or the firewall settings.
Sometimes radio is working but mostly not.
Meantime I did not change anything in my firewall settings (gave Songbird full access and I can use Songbird to browse on web pages and click on live radio streams offered there).
So it are not the firewall settings.
So this seems to be a problem with the Add-On.
So, what can we do to make it run?
I am not the only one having problems.
What I have forgotten to mention (sorry, I can not update my previous posting):
Also removing Songbird and installing it again does not help.
Also removing the Add-On and installing it again does not help.
So, after waiting for more than one month without an answer it would be nice to get some help here.
I have the same problems as OLLI_S already explained. Hope the bugs will be fixed soon.
hey stevel, I really like this shoutcast software you have developed.
Can I get your contact information please? would like to speak with you some time
nice job
thanks, mike
Hello stevel,
really blaming what is going on here.
The Add-On is not working for over 2 months now and no bug fix is available.
If I open the VLC Media Player and listen to SHOUTcast Radio stations, I have absolutely no problems.
So, why still using Songbird?
I hope you look at the problem soon or many users will delete Songbird from their HDD.
Greetings
OLLI
Doesn't work. Just says "This appears to be a text file." GG
I like this plugin a lot, but I have some annoying problem, everytime I play a song from my library I can't listen to SHOUTcast radio anymore, I have to restart songbird and go straight to SHOUTcast stations.
Thanks, greetings from Colombia.
This add on just works perfect for me!!! You have done a great job!!!
I've thought that maybe my problem has something to do with the fact that I'm using the "Now playing" plugin.
Hi, how can I delete a fav radio station? I just marked to favorite "manually" a radio station but now i cant deleted. (maybe its a silly question but need help :))
http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/3554/favp.jpg
PD: Nice addon!
PD2: sorry my english xd
Hi, the add-on is working great, thanks!
Only one minor annoyance is that no feedback are given when a radio is launched. Because of lag I often have to click several times on the same radio to make sure it works! ;)
thx for the addon ,
i think you can add a genere like "ALL" where we can search on all database.. some radio are difficult to found
Nice add-on, thanks.
When you type in a search term in the filter and then double-click on a station, it doesn't seem to do anything. It works fine if you click on it when there is no filter applied.
needs to scrobble to last.fm
Anyone else using this in Songbird 1.4.3 on a Mac? The plugin installs fine for me, and doesn't complain when I try to use it, but it won't play anything. I've tried double-clicking a station, selecting a station and clicking "play." Nothing. Any help?
I'm having the same problem in Songbird 1.4.3 on PC. Shoutcast radio won't play any stations. Need an update!
Hey Steve, Awesome add-on for 1.4.x. Can you bump it to support 1.6.x?
Works EXTREMELY WELL for me. Songbird just keeps getting better and better!!! Thanks!!!
Going to have to get another plug in for my radio, unless someone updates this. It doesn't work at all. i get a failure to connect notice on this pc, and it just crashes my notebooks songbird.
Just installed in Songbird 1.4.3 on Win7, working fine/no problems
BTW, scrobbling a radio station to last.fm (even for the ones where you can extract the track title/artist info) is generally not a good idea; however, being able to scrobble on a per song [manual] basis would be a nice feature (click a button to scrobble the currently playing song, no "auto" scrobbling of every song). Of course, it would need to work with the Last.fm add-on(?).
FYI, SHOUTcast seems to have been removed from VLC 1.x (and quite a few other players--except for Winamp of course)--seems to have something to do with AOL making changes to the SHOUTcast ToS (related to advertising more than anything else it seems, as in, "display our ads, sponsors, etc. or else"). I'm not "optimistic" concerning further development of this add-on. :D
Im using Songbird 1.4.3 on win7 and used to get an error message, now im getting no response at all. I kind of had a feeling that there would be issues because of advertising. Itunes still has it. (hmm wonder why??) Fortunatly i got a subscription to Sirius as a gift. I still love songbirdy
Well, if SHOUTcast Radio is important to you (and not working in Songbird), then you might try the Spider Player (the latest version of which still supports it)--seems to be a well-liked player (spider-player.com). There's a portable version (unzip to desired folder) of it.
nrayever said (one year ago)
ok, i have a problem with this extension. the genre list is missing an “ALL” option. so this cause to automatically some stations are are not sorted under that categories be “missing”. and example is www.RadioPirata.com, on shoutcast’s website is found by searching “mexico” while on this add-on don’t know where to find it. because under “latin genre” is not listed.
nrayever
I think I have the same Problem. novasonic-radio.de is not listed too.
May be because there where more than one Genres are played?
Anyway, have fun... 2borg
Does the Shoutcast add-on support the latest nightly build Songbird 1.7.2b1? I can't seem to get it to work.
Thanks for a great add-in. I've noticed two problems.
The filter doesn't work right. Instead of the comment field it should filter the name field, or even better... both.
Also, please add an option to lookup a custom genre/tag, directly from the interface (instead of that forgeful config-textfield).
Is this add-on still being developed at all?
Great add-on. But is it possible to change stations through command line? The idea is if this is feasible, then I could use global shortcuts as mentioned in http://www.deepcode.net/global-hot-keys-for-songbird-in-linux/. This is extremely useful as it is a pain to open Songbird everytime to switch stations.
amaramrahul: Shortcut keys in linux should be possible by following the instructions at http://www.deepcode.net/global-hot-keys-for-songbird-in-linux/. But the problem is that for this hack to work, controls "Next Track" and "Previous Track" should move forth between the next and previous station in the queue. This is not happening currently. Any possibility of this issue being fixed?
Bug raised to address previous two comments - http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show_bug.cgi?id=21181 :)
Hi stevel
Could you please update that addon to 1.7.2?
Thanks :)
Hi,
Same as Klint, plz update to 1.7.3.
Greatings
I 3rd that Steve, can you please make an update for Songbird 1.7.3, Build 1700 (20100608172818)? Thanks for a great add-on!!
i've just installed songbird 1.7.3 (windows 7 OS), but the shoutcast radio add-on doesn't work on it..=(
can someone update it to songbird latest version please???that would be really great since i love this add-on!!
thanks ;)
please update this add on.
After 1.7.3 update it doesn't work.
I use songbird only for this add on....
Same problem, I use Songbird only for Shoutcast.
I downgrade my songbird for the moment.
please update this add on.
Please keep this add-on compatible with new Songbird version. Latest being 1.8b2.
I am afraid this won't be updated anymore. Seems AOL does not allow the use of shoutcast anymore for freeware or open source projects. That's why VLC also did drop their shoutcast support. Read about it here:
You might wanna try IceCast Radio which seems to be an Open Source alternative for it. I seen a couple of my favourite shoutcast stations there already and hoping a lot more gonna come to it.
@SpikeSpiegel28:
This will get updated. I'm working on bug 21724, and I think the new version will get uploaded here soon. But it looks like it will be avaiable for 1.8 or 1.9 only, not for 1.7.3.
...see also getSatisfaction with a untested new version if you can't wait...
@rsjtdrjgfuzkfg
Well thats great news as this addon is my favourite and prolly the one I use most. Also I am a bit confused about it cause of all the things I been reading about Shoutcast and AOL and not wanting to support any kinda Freeware or Open Source Software. Could you perhaps clear this up for me a bit as you seem to know more about it than I do.
I have the version 1.7.3 of Songbird and the SHOUTcast not supported this version.
Some one now if a SHOUTcast version will be available soon?
Or if SHOUTCast will not support the latest version of Songbird with player I can used on Mac with SHOUTCast. I know WinAmp on Windows but except Songbird I did find anything.
@SpikeSpiegel28:
I fixed Bug 21724, so SHOUTcast is working in 1.9.0a (nightly).
There are some issues with the nightly addon if you doesn't build yourself and do not use en-US localisation, but these are no blocker for this AddOn.
@zelefolas,SpikeSpiegel28:
I don't know when this AddOn gets updated for the "normal" user, if not in the next days for the 1.8 release I'll (again) upload a temporary version at rapidshare (but I dislike to do that because it is nicer and more simple if an autorized person does it).
Out now :D
Thanks for the update, rsjtdrjgfuzkfg. I had to switch the language to English-US in order to see the station list, and the Favorite Stations node doesn't seem to work.
Confirming what kyods wrote.
Only works withs language EN-US.
Fovorite Stations folder not working :-(
Shoutcast doesnt seem to work with my songbird. It just keeps loading. I'm on 1.8 and win 7. It works on firefox. Any idea anyone?
Oh, right... English. Now it works!! THX
I just installed this on my Songbird 1.8, but it doesn't work. It's forever stuck with the rotating 'loading' icon.
Help please!
Still broken for me as well... it works on PC but not the other. How can we troubleshoot this?
doesn't work
The current version is not compartible to non en-US Songbirds.
Because POTI seems to have too much else to do to fix that, I uploaded a fixed version 1.0.4.1800.inofficial.localefixed to rapidshare.
Worked nightly build for me http://developer.songbirdnest.com/builds/trunk/latest/addons/shoutcast-radio-1.0.5pre.1840.xpi
nice add-on.
I can not find any of the 1.fm - any ideas?
Since a few days the Shoutcast plugin doesn't work. I did a little investigation. To get the list of radio the plugin used http://yp.shoutcast.com/ but it's like this address is not valid anymore. On the preference we don't have any place to put the new one.
SHOUTcast doesn't work right under Songbird 1.9.1.
@zelegolas:
http://yp.shoutcast.com/ still exists, but the API behind it changed. It doesn't work currently, I filled this bug and I've a patch ready, so I hope this will get fixed soon.
Again, I uploaded a fixed inofficial version.
Happy New Year everyone!
Thanks rsjtdrjgfuzkfg!!
Happy New Year to u too!!
Thank you. Can the Genre list show sub-categories, like Anime, Video Game Music under the Soundtracks genre? I can't find my favourite stations in Video game music, since it has only "Soundtracks" which does not list these stations.
@meongu:
For streams you can't find, but that are avaiable through SHOUTcast, you can use the heart-button on the right of the search box. Go to the SHOUTcast page and copy the link of the stream (like http://yp.shoutcast.com/sbin/tunein-station.pls?id=000000) and enter genre and station name. That's it; you can find it now at your Favourite station list and in the "normal" SHOUTcast stram lists.
Thanks!
Thanks rsjtdrjgfuzkfg, I had some trouble with this myself. Found the streams on SHOUTcast just like you described.
excellent & much needed addition.
- I would like to have the ability to drag & drop to re-order items in the Favorites list.
(..put my 2 or 3 favorite stations @ the top.)
- Would be nice if Songbird would display what station is playing.
Thanks! :)
This may not be your fault... Streaming info/metadata doesn't display correctly for me. (Station name, Artist, Album, etc. ..)
Any hints?
@matt239:
I think it is best if you fill a bug at Songbird's Bugzilla, or write a bug report here (if you don't want to create an bugzilla account). Needed to get down to a problem is a good STR (Steps to reproduce), because for me (and I assume for others, too) the metadata think hasn't got problems. So you should provide a step-by-step tutorial how the bug appears (for example you could start with 1. Open Songbird with SHOUTcast AddOn installed. 2. Click SHOUTcast in servicepane, etc.) also write what you expected Songbird to do/display, and what it actually did.
The sort thing, maybe that's possible. Feel free to fill a bug for that, too. Maybe somebody has time to implement that (but I won't - at least in the next months).
SHOUTcast kind of displays the currently playing station when clicking on the current title, but in the current version that is broken. If you have a idea, how displaying the station could work (where?!), that might also be a thing to fill a bug for.
Hi! OK. Thank you! :)
1: "Sort thing" not too important, just a "wish for" I dunno if it merits a bug report?
2: Station Name, Some players display it right with the Artist/Song Title. in the "track info" bar (@ the top of the player, or scrolling in the mini-player)... so that would be my suggestion. :) Also the current station could be highlighted in the list.
3: Streaming data; FIXED! :) I have uninstalled Raven(Night) Feather, (wasn't actually using it..) & Now it displays correctly. There must have been an incompatibility there..
SORRY. NOT FIXED.
It's doing it again... If I pause while on a station, then resume play;
It displays Artist & Song OK, but also displays the first Artist I played on a station as if it's Album, or Station ID.
It just remains there.. Playing annother file, or opening another stream, then coming back doesn't help.
& it just exports the data of the old song.. (to Foxytunes)
Win7 X64 64bit
AMD Athlon II X4 635, 2.9 GHz, 4 Core,

Songbird 1.9.3 build 1959
Shoutcast Radio add-on 1.0.5.1959
Thanks :)
@matt239:
1:Bugzilla tracks feature requests, too. Any they're also called bug, but have a different type (you can specify type when showing advanced fields via the button in the top-left corner).
2: I'm not sure if that would look nice on small screens, and I like AddOns and Songbird itself to be as flexible as possible. Also, this would break the skinnable schema there (except if we would use the album field... but that's quite bad because other AddOns would get the station's name as album of currently played song?!). Feel free to fill a bug through, maybe someone else would like it that way and has time to play around with it. Maybe as a tooltip on the shoutcast-stream image before the title?!
3: I also see that sometimes.... seems to be a bug. If you have a station where you can reproduce it with (like: double-click twice on Station XXX -> Bug) that would be great. As mentioned before, currently I don't have any time for new bugs, so it should go to bugzilla. Let me know if I should post it there for you.
"Let me know if I should post it there for you."
Yes, please. If you could post a bug for that; )displaying the first song forever..)
I'll post one for the stream name feature request.
Thanks! :)
- that was supposed to read:
Yes, please. If you could post a bug for that; (displaying the first song forever..)

@matt239:
I created Bug 24139 for you, let me know if I understood you correctly, and of course it would be great to get a more exact STR (the one I posted doesn't work for me). So if you find a (other) way to reproduce this (especially: a specific staion) it would help to fix the bug if you post it.
Yes, pretty much, but I don't know about the hot keys. I'm always using the mouse on the graphic buttons on Songbird.
I've uninstalled Foxytunes for the moment, which was the only other way I infrequently controlled player.
- or do you mean just having hot keys enabled somewhere?
- should I disable hot key support?
Hmm, seems like it's not all streams doing it right now, but I get it with all the SomaFM streams, and some others.. It displays:
"Artist Name - Song Name . Old Song Name"
SomaFM, etc. stream names display OK for me in Winamp & iTunes on same machine.
Thanks! :)
OK. I've just noticed this;
if I copy the URL from iTunes into Songbird, rather than load it from the Shoutcast directory via songbird, then the "Artist Name- Song Name" display correctly, without the additional "Old Song Name"
The URL from iTunes looks like this (for SomaFM, IndiePopRocks)
http://pri.kts-af.net/redir/index.pls?esid=b490a7578ea0a710e534d3c5d05181ed&url_no=1&client_id=7&uid=68efed4d03ec7e45fd3978262c107180&clicksrc=xml
I was going to post the Songbird/Shoutcast URLs but I don't know how to extract them from Songbird..
@matt239:
In theory you shouldn't be able to pause the stream; but hotkeys work. Doesn't the play/pause button switch to a stop button?
For me somafm doesn't stream any content (and has only one listener, maybe a temporary problem?); so I still can't repeoduce it.
OK. When I play a stream, the pause button still LOOKS like a pause button, but I think it's always worked as a STOP. It doesn't try to resume where you were in the stream, that seems like it wouldn't work.. Also if I "hold" down the button there is a drop down menu with play, pause, stop. It seems to work OK.
I think I was off track with the pause thing anyway; If I start one of the problem streams, from shoutcast, it will start the "Artist Name, Song Name, Old Song Name " behavior on the second song..
I guess you saw where I said it doesn't do it when I copy the URL from iTunes? (That is, it works correctly then..)
Is that a non-shoutcast version of the stream?
I don't know too much about how shoutcast works..
Thanks! :)
OK SORRY, the pause button DOES attempt to start where you left off!! I don't know for how long.. like what if you restart it the next day?! I'd better just use the drop-down STOP..
Anyway on the problem stations, the "Old Song" thing happens even w/o using pause..
Here are some stations that exhibit the problem:
SomaFM: IndiePopRocks
SomaFM: Drone Zone
Radio Electro[u]nique: Limbik Frequencies
I don't know what URLs to give for them, the iTunes ones are different, if I copy the ones I have in Winamp, they don't work, & the ones I find through Songbird; Shoutcast add-on don't display the URL..
You'd have to look them up using the add-on..
great Id like to preview music before buying
I find a difficulty with the categories. It seems the add-on ignores the genre subtrees of shoutcast. For example I see the Jazz category which has the subcategory Swing with the station SteelRadio in it. However the addon won't find this station when JAzz genre is selected.
Please don't make the add-on incompatible with songbird 1.2 or all of us Linux users will die! it's such a wonderful program and addon!!!
@marcelops:
You might use the heart button to add a SHOUTcast URL from the homepage to Songbird.
Why should Linux users stick to 1.2.0? Linux builds of current Songbird versions are avaiable here.

ok, i have a problem with this extension. the genre list is missing an “ALL” option. so this cause to automatically some stations are are not sorted under that categories be “missing”. and example is www.RadioPirata.com, on shoutcast’s website is found by searching “mexico” while on this add-on don’t know where to find it. because under “latin genre” is not listed.
