Birdie Pino

This feather makes Songbird look like the SongBIRD

Birdie

Description

This feather gives the miniplayer the look of Songbird himself selecting music for you :-). All of the buttons and info of the usual miniplayer have been replaced on the bird. It only has a miniplayer mode.

When you install Stevo's Album Art Manger addon, it will even show the album art on the side of the box. (somewhat bugged since the new Album Art Manager; will see if I can fix that)

Please check the image added before trying to find out how the interface works!
========Version History========
0.1 is the initial release. Enjoy!
0.2 adds mouse pointers to buttons, so they can now be found (keep mouse still to see what it does). Also album art looks normal again, when using Album Art Manager 0.0.9.2
0.3 uses a way improved image, so now the edges aren't corny any longer. I have made the progress meter a bit darker, so it doesn't stand out that much any longer.
0.3.1 is ready for Songbird 0.5.
0.4 is made for 0.6.1. (yes it took very long, and yes, that's only because I am lazy).

hey cool,

this really shows what is possible.

One thing i noticed is that moving the window with this skin is very slow on my machine.

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks, really cool,
may the bird always be looking right!
Is it possible to select the text style in the display?

Great job!

I don’t exactly see what you try to archieve, but you can change for example the font using CSS. The easiest way to do that would probably by adding some lines to Userchrome.css (which first must be created). The ID’s of the text can be found using DOM Inspector. If you can’t solve it yourself and are still interested, reply, then I will give a some more detailed explanation.

Yes, it is very cool.

But it is unusable. I spend 2 minutes to figure out how the hell I was supossed to get out of the mini player mode. Come on, it’s beautiful, but hardly usable.

And I’m a designer, but even for me it’s not all about looks.

It may be hard to figure out but he is the first person to do something completely different than anyone else. It is just the first evolutionary step into a whole new subset of artistic player designs.

for me all the shapes are very unsmooth, like very. Anyone else have this problem?

What exactly do you mean by that? I am aware that the outer shape isn’t smooth (because I had to remove a white background, and my GIMP/paint.net skills are limited), but the rest should be looking fine… Maybe you could post a screenshot?

I think that’s exactly what he means—the rough edges. It’s not very noticeable, but once you see it it adds a little… home-made-ness about it. :)

Anyway, I think this idea is great, and hopefully it will inspire people to move beyond the rectangular player and start doing lots of cool things.

Minor bug noticed in 0.3… the Birdie seems to grow new noses (popped up when I first hit play). This is on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

This happened when using the old miniplayer.xul with 0.5(nightly). As I have updated the xul file, it should be working perfectly on 0.5 now…

Ok… I just downloaded Songbird so I’m still really new to it all and don’t know pretty much anything about add-ons. I download them (Birdie too), I restart Songbird but things don’t show up. I have Windows Vista on my computer and I noticed that in the spaces where “Works on” is, Vista is never listed as one of them, Just ‘2000’ and ‘XP’. Does Birdie work on Vista?
Maybe I’m just confused…

Ey there. Cool that you have started using Songbird :-). There are 2 kinds of addons. Extensions and feathers. Extensions add functionality, feathers change the look of the program. Extensions should should be working on startup (but they may not have an interface, or must be opened in a so called “display pane”). Feathers (and display panes) must be selected in the “view” menu. When you select one, it will change look and will remain so untill you switch again. I hope this helps you and allows you to enjoy the greatness of addons… To prevent getting confused by Birdie, it might be wise to look athe the image of the button layout on this page.

I am absolutely in love with this view mode. The only thing it is lacking, in my humble opinion, is an “always on top” mode.

I have two suggestions, i would like to see the feather selector pop up in a small window rather than a drop down list. To be it seems to be one part that breaks away from what otherwise is a completely new design.

I think it would be awesome if you clicked on the birds head (brain area) and then a thought bubble is overlayed with more details about the song/album in it. E.g

Artist
Album
Rating
Genre
Tracklength TrackNo/Total

And maybe a link inside the bubble to edit the details.

@cellarmation, that's a very cool suggestion. I will look into that (I was told on IRC that it should be pretty easy to do, but I am bad at doing such things :P).

Hi,

I installed this add-on in .6.1 and it wouldn't allow me to leave the birdie-mini-player mode. I was forced to remove it by deleting the extensions folder.

I was waiting for this add-on to be available on 6.1, I love it. Anyway, I have to suggestions:
-Always on top mode (as some people said)
-Making it available with other feathers.

I'll explain the second, though maybe is not in your hands...

I think this feather is really cool and funny, but I don't want to use it at every time. I rather use it from time to time, so I'd like to have this view as a sort of third option of feather:
1:Full media player (with whatever view)
2:Mini media player (with whatever view)
3: Birdie

My friends dream to have it.
It is maybe the most appealing reason to have Songbird :-)

I miss it.

I've got it running in 1.1.2, it seems to do fine.

If you want to install it on a current version you have to hack the install.rdf file which is in the .xpi file (Download the xpi file (with firefox) change the extension of the xpi to .zip, unzip it, change
 ‹ em:maxVersion› 0.6.*‹ /em:maxVersion›
in the instal.rdf file to a number higher than your version, eg 1.6.* and then zip all the original files back into a zip, and change the extension back to xpi)
