MinimizeToTray (Songbird version)

Thanks for uploading an extension! I'm just poking around with the comments.

Fantastic extension. I love that it notifies me when a new song starts and which one it is. That's the kind of functionality I'm surprised isn't built into Songbird itself.

I love the little notifier things it lights up my day, thanks The new extension system looks good guys.

i'm sorry but the "Minimize on close" does not work for me in SB 0.2.5 nightlies. Closing SB simply... closes it !!!

Phenomenal extension! Really great thing to have, I think it should be rolled into the main app. Two requests. 1. Can you hijack the close button and make it go to tray? 2. Can you add a little tooltip to the tray icon that tells you the song name rather than the current one which just gives you the app name (at least on Windows XP) Thanks again!

Nope, it never did. Too bad its just for Windows...it would be nice if it was rolled into the main application, and for all platforms.

Any way to have Songbird always show in the system tray instead of the taskbar? I almost always have a media player open in the minimal view (I was previously using Winamp like that), and having it always sit in the taskbar takes up a good amount of space. I dig this extension, but it's only useful when Songbird's completely minimized. It would be perfect if it had the following choices: 1. Show in system tray: [Always | Minimized | Never] 2. Show notifications: [Always | Minimized | Never] Other than that, excellent work. This should be included in the Windows builds by default.

...and perhaps options for notification animation speed and amount of time it's displayed.

I would be interested in two things: 1) Always have the system tray icon shown option 2) Minimize to tray when the miniplayer view is chosen. Great addition though. I agree, this should be included by default :-)

That happens for me too, using WinXPSP2 and Songbird 0.2.5. Minimize to tray only minimizes to tray with the min button--not close :(

Awesome feature! I love it. One suggestion, have a single click on the tray icon pause/resume play. Just a bit easier than opening the menu, finding the pause item and choosing it.

Very useful feature! Shuold be integrated in the programm! I've got 2 requests: 1. The Mini Player should also be minimised to tray. 2. Could you add a little tooltip to the tray icon which informs you about the current song and where you can directly download this song when you're tuned in!

thank GOODNESS there's an add-on for this. i was upset that songbird didn't include it as an option to begin with. glad i found this!

To tell the truth i downloaded SongBird and was about to use. But... with its interface it seemed to difficult to me and i gave it up not to waste time. Chinese language software

It's annoying to have to maximize the program to look what song you are hearing. Please, please, please! :)

Yeah, update? Or at least inclusion of this basic feature for a media player in the core...

This add-on does not install with SB version 0.3 and 0.3.1. I get a pop-up that says: "MinimizeToTray (Songbird version)" will not be installed because it does not provide secure updates". Probably because it is an unsigned add-on? I know these are developer releases of SB, but it might be a good idea to get on that early...

I’m not sure if I’m doing it wrong, but I can’t get this to work at all in SB version 0.5.

Doesn’t work at all in SB .6 RC2

No go in 0.6 (and apparently 0.5 either). Extensions shouldn’t be marked compatible with songbird 0.1 – 2.0+ before we even have these releases. 0 stars :P

Just a hint guys. Look at the release date. A good bet is if the release date is older than the new Songbird Update chances are compatibility isn’t 100%.

Does not "minimize to tray"

Had the same problem as the previous poster.

I'm using Windows XP and 0.7.0rc2. This was disappointing as I use Thunderbird and Firefox and the same extension (as least it's called the same) works fine with both.

Does this not work in Vista? No matter what I do I can't get it to go to the tray :/

I can't get this to work either under Vista. I've installed the add-on, but whenever i close or minimize it, i doesn't go to the system tray.

Hey, I can't seem to get this to work. I've got the thunderbird minimize to tray working, so I'm used to the concept, but no matter what I fiddle about with it won't minimize to tray, or even create an icon in the try. And no, I'm not using the thunderbird version of the plugin in Songbird ;)

Ignore my previous comment, it was made on a very late night last week, and I didn't see the comment by samoletik.

It's absolutely fantastic I can minimise Songbird to the tray again, but a shame I can't get the functionality of this extension at the minute.

I answer to my question, FireTray It's the same add-on and works with Linux.

Unable to minimize with vista sp1 ultimate 64bit. Would love this extension to work as I'm hoping to have it replace winamp.

Add-on does not work at all.

Close closes program entirely, and minimize just puts to taskbar, not to tray. Yes, I configured the add-on options to do so.

Same as Myrddin_Wyllt, this doesn't work at all with the 1.0.0rc1, specifically with XP SP3 and build 825.

Works fine for me on Vista 64 SP1 with 1.0.0 RC1 as long as I change the maxversion in install.rdf to "1.0".

I am with a fresh setup of Windows XP SP3, and your operation isn't working, it says :
"System tray support 0.0.0.20080325 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Songbird 0.8.0."
So?!!

hey this ones not working... i've got a similar addon for thunderbird which worked after installing another addon called "minimize to tray enhancer".
(i use vista home premium)

I must say i got the same problem.
Nothing happens.
Running Vista Ultimate SP1, SB 1.0 RC2, add-ons faster bird, last.fm scrobbler support, noscript, mashtape, new-tab button, metadata tools, lyric master, status bar clock, song snarl, shout cast radio, and some others now still not compatible with SB 1.0 RC2. Oh and also lots of feathers.

Nice addon.. thanks! It would be cool if it added control features (previous,next,pause,etc..) that you could control from the tray. This is the only thing I think Windows Media Player 11 still has on Songbird.

This add-on needs to be removed. It is the 6th most downloaded add on for songbird overall, and that's bad since it's defunct. Might confuse some people (including myself), I don't know why Songbird 1.0 even lets you install it.

I really think that this one is long past due. Can it be taken away from plugins and put in archives somewhere so that poor computer illiterate souls would not stumble upon it while trying to world of open source for the first time?

Had my scratching my head for a while, does not now I can see. As it was top download I kinda guessed it would be working. Great idea, shame its not updated, but then I can understand the time that would take.

I have just installed Songbird on a clean machine, and installed this Add-on. After start up songBird, the Application minimize to the TaskBar instead of system tray. I have checked the Setup of the Add-On and it is "enabled" (of course). I also checked option to minimize to ST when close, but ... this just close the Apps :-(

Here you can download the latest verstion of MinTrayR or MinimizeToTray revived directly from the developer's website. I just installed it and it works like a charm.

It's working now (with the version from the Developers Website)

On Version: Songbird 1.1.2, Build 1042 (20090331142126), on Windows Vista, the song title is marqueed on the system tray while the window is open, but it disappears when minimized. There is a songbird icon in the system tray, but no display of songs, or control buttons (like pause, play, fast forward, etc.)
This is with the developer version from http://tn123.ath.cx/mintrayr/ on May 02, 2009, PST.
I was expecting something like what Media Player has when it is minimized.
I'm uninstalling it until a better version comes out.
